The most underrated individual and creative artist in the history of HIP HOP all black hoods in L.A. bumped Malcoms music in the 80s proud to have grown up on this R.I.P.
I WAS DOWN WITH T.D.K CREW,BACK IN THE DAYS DAME I LISTEN TO THIS , I STILL AT 45 GET DOWN ON BREAKDANCEING, TO ALL YOU OLD SCHOOL, T.D.K ROCKWELL,BRONXBREAK OUT,ROCKSTEADY,24 HOURCREW,T.D.K INTERNATIONAL B.BOYS,LOTS OF RESPECT YOU NO HOW WE DID IT BACK IN THE DAYS, FROM PUERTO RICO, RUBICKS CUBE
I remember seeing this on a television show here in Australia called "Simon Townsends Wonder World" back in 1982. I was only very young, maybe 9 or 10, and I was absolutely blown away by such an unheard of and new sound. I remember just standing in front of the tv with my mouth open. This, since that day, has remained one of my all time favourite tunes.
This takes me back to HS..the summer of 1983! I loved to pop off this jam! Thanks for posting this for the ol' skool to reminisce and for the new skool to embrace the early days of hip hop!
right! the first time i have heard this hit i think the same of you! the start it's real the same, but this hit just enter in the story of music as well as M.McLaren too! i love this song
We were killin the pop to this.. and yes on the tag scene Dondi was that dude.Go Brooklyn, Go Brooklyn. This song would play a min. of 10 times in a party. Funny thing is we rarely danced with the girls. Dancing was a performance at this time that the entire crew could do.
@vongfatima No No No "To much of that snow white" Is the last line of the song its a reference to powder cocaine which was in high use in the music industry during the 80s.I grew up listening to malcom and the beginings of hip hop and I still love it today.PEACE!!!

you see rock steady and crazy legs rockin that shit ..plus thats futura 2000 bombin the graf..malcom was way ahead of his time this shit is baggin .nyc baby
@sukiaable that'd be crazy legs .... got his signature footwork, transition into a flashdance dive into a gyro. that was the classic combination back-in-the-day. footwork to flashdance dive into a gyro ... if you could transition into a backspin and outtro with a backbridge, you'd win every battle in the 80s. i remember after i retired my pumas and saw a Battle of the Year video in the mid 90s, I was blown away. If you've never seen one of those check it out & Planet B-Boy is well worth a watch.
@CeRaGoU at the 12-second mark? man, back-in-the-day, we actually figured it out because we only had a white glove with blue trim to determine who was throwing up a piece. wish i remembered ... dondi certainly was an original (RIP)
Went to see a Malcolm show in the 80's, easily one of the most amazing shows I ever saw. His stage show had models/dancers 'vogueing' years before Madonna made it mainstream. It was a truly amazing mix of all types of music. He definitely left his mark on music, and much more. RIP Mr. McLaren.
RIP Malcolm McLaren, a true visionary from forming the legendary Sex Pistols and believing in hip-hop when hip hop when it actually meant something, to his Paintings and other forms of artist expression. A true renaissance man.
ahhh the 80`s, i remember them well ;o) RIP to one of the most influential men of our time when it comes to british music, sleep well my friend sleep well x
Malcolm was the ultimate svengali of pop culture/music... I hold him in the same stead as Picasso, Warhol, Presley ... he was a thief at the top of his game ... yeah other artists 'pioneered' this music but Malcolm saw & heard and ran away with it - that's what muso managers do!
The man was a frikkin genius ... what passion ... what vision ... what a legend.
Dukezone:What you mean is that most kids don't know what real hiphop is an completely overlook it as an actual artform. Thats all changed today of course, I don't even recognise it myself!
Goosbumps still when I hear it. I remember when I first heard it. I went out and managed a group of rap dancers in Australia in '84. This song was the inspiration. Rest in piece MC. You were the first and best hip hop producer.
You will be missed and remembered. Note: to the young generation...take a lesson from this guy...he took massive risks...but was rewarded. Good luck.

@llensart Thanks for the info i never knew he wrote this and buffalo girls i had heard the songs in the 80s but just thought it was a different malcolm mclaren.
Betchya most kids don't know that the first rap song was released by a white man. Malcolm McLaren. RIP. Not only fathered Punk Rock genre with Sex Pistols but fathered what is now Hip Hop. This comment is not a white-black thing [I am a black man]. Just putting things in perspective.

@thankyoueBay : Thanks for stating the fact about "Fatback Band" I was just about to state that. The "father" of Hip Hop is DJ Kool Herc & the B-boy/B-girl style of dance (or as the media chose to call it "Breakdancing", which is actually not a term created within Hip Hop) started due to the way Kool Herc would repeat the break in records. B-Boy = "Break" Boy and Hip Hop began in 1972. Either or, Malcolm played an important role in music period. He was a talented man who I respect. RIP
@PriTheHoneydark well, unfortunately, my big bro passed away @ 43-yrs just 8 weeks ago. cancer, just like malcolm. 1 day b4 my bro passed & he was bedridden at this time ... i brought my dj set-up over & we played one last set together. here was our mashup that got my big bro 2 smile within hrs of his passing.
@PriTheHoneydark my big bro remembered a setlist we did back in the day and was joyful about it. just one of the reasons i love music so much and appreciate artists like malcolm ... music is all about emotions tied to it and whether the emotions are good or bad, music still stirs the soul. RIP malcolm and again, thanks for that last memory of my big bro.
@dukezone69 Buffalo Gals was definitely not the first rap song - but this video was undeniably the first time British kids got to see that there was far more going on in NY than a novelty record. I remember seeing this on Top Of The Pops and being absolutely blown away. For most of us, this was the first point of contact with something we've loved for years.
Sorry fella, that isn't correct. 'Rap' music was evolving from RnB/Blues and soul music long before Malcolm hooked up on the idea while in the States.
RIP to Malcolm McLaren a true pioneer not only in the 'Punk' world but also in the world of 'Hip Hop' and later 'House' music as well beginning the 'Vogue' craze without him none of these musical genres would have 'blown up' the way they did ....a musical svengali.
love it!
