@Fr3etd4nc3r : I think we're both right. You need a minimum of equipment to be able to play something that makes sense. This minimum given (a good guitar, a good amp and some decent effects) the difference is then in what we might call talent or soul or whatever. And I know a lot of guys with the finest equipment that only play s***t, and other with rather modest equipment that play you to tears. A nice day to everybody out there!

So, if Hendrix played a maple body 8 string guitar with active pickups through a Line 6 modeling amp set to Insane with every knob on 10, he'll sound exactly like himself? NO. However, I pick up a late 60's strat, run it into a fuzz face, a Uni-Vibe, a wah pedal, all into a Marshall stack and I'll be damned if I don't sound like Hendrix. You get about as much tone from your hands as you from the plastic control knobs, in other words, NONE

its not hard to get a backing track, play the structure of the song and just improvise over and around it. Trust me it is a lot easier than you think.

I play guitar too, and yes I understand that he's just playing pentatonic stuff, but there are still quite a few guitar players who can't pull the execution off. You can tell that he's been playing awhile, not necessarily because of the note choice, but because of the ease in which he plays.
