@umbergerwill True! They put the meters right downtown by the street light where cars stop and idle. When it is cold the air is stagnant. We also have areas where people burn coal, now that is nasty, but when it is costing you over a thousand dollars a month just for fuel oil to heat your home, coal is an attractive (though smelly) alternative. We love clean air, but we love heat more (it has been -35 for several weeks now).
I HATE NY IT SUCKS EVERY1 IS A ASSHOLE I CAN'T WAIT TILL IM 18 SO I CAN LEAVE AND MOVE HERE 1 MORE YR I HATE NY GOD Y DO I NEED 2 WAIT ANOTHER YEAR!!!!!!!
We usually dont get too windy, though sometimes in the spring it does, but now when it is below zero. It has been colder than -30 all week and set a new record for November. Sheesh...
In 1974 I graduated high school from LONGMONT, COLORADO and then in January of 1975 drove a truck up for my brother (a brand new 1975 Dodge Powerwagon). In those days that truck, brand new, was only $4500. Can you believe it, the same truck today would be 1000% more ($45,000.). Crazy...
I heard from alot of people that the temperature is not as bad as ppl make it out to b is that true and how nice r the ppl there? I'm visiting in June and am seriously considering moving there
The people are the best! The summers are amazing and the winters are not too bad for the hearty folks. I moved here in 1975 and have been here since and LOVE IT!
Fairbanks is in the Valley, there are hills that are outside of the city and it is always warmer there. The total population of the Fairbanks North Star borough is over 80,000 people and about as many dogs. The borough covers a large area though so you can be in the city and then drive 5 miles and be away from people. It is a nice place to live, if you can handle the winters that is...
I want to be there. Cool video, loved the weather reporting from the radio going on in the background! Way better than some stupid loud song most people put in their driving videos!
Nice video man! I remember when I lived there in 1997-2000. Those were some cold days! I do miss those summer days. I can't believe how much more things are up there now! Walmart!
hey that's my dad on the radio, cool i miss his voice. he used to read me stories when i was like 4 years old, still the same voice... stay warm... charlie o'toole's daughter.
Cool, I love listening to your dad in the morning. He is all Alaskan, thats for sure. He amazes me at his knowledge of early rock n roll, he actually played YELLOW SNOW by Frank Zappa last week, I could not believe it! You should call him...
ya he's been in alaska since 1971. The first place he lived in when he got to ak was Nome, AK so he jumped right in so to say. he's been a dj since he was 19 n now is working at KFBX, KXLR, KIAK, N 101.1 MAGIC FM. I'll send him the link to your youtube thing here n we'll see what he as to say, n ya, big fan of the oldies, i grew up listenin to those too.. signing off, "alaskan turned floridian"
I was told that cars run better the colder it gets. Its the stationary ones at the car dealers that i wonder about, surely everything freezes up after a couple of days
Battery trickle chargers, engine block heaters and oilpan heaters. They are plugged into electric. Usually on a timer. You set the timer for 6 hours b4 you need to start it at 50 below. If everything works fine the vehicle weill start. Make sure you use heet in the fuel tank to make sure no water is in your fuel.
Does everyone use synthetic oil? I can't imagine the old days of carburetors and regular motor oil. People survived, and adapted, nevertheless. Amazing.
No most people dont. I dont either.Too expensive. I use 5/30. My pickup is carburetor, my Nissan is fuel injected. My 78 bus that I bought recently is Carburetor. I will convert it into a RV.
I noticed Fairbanks get alot of air quality alerts y is that?

the scary part is that more than 30,000 people live in fairbanks, all enduring subzero, dark winters.
cooliorox100 2 years ago
The people there chose to stay because it's their home. But they can always move to Hawaii if they want to.

I agree with Riseandshine...It is amazing how such a simple video of everyday life can create interest.
Moderate temperatures seem to dominate the globe; I am enchanted by life in such extremes.
