  • Apparently this early song was influencde by the song Sister Ray by Velvet Underground, though I think it's a unique Stranglers song as the chords are quite different.. Some say it echoes Born to be wild. Well the Jury is out for that one. To be honest most bands when they start out there first songs are always somewhat influenced. Look at early U2 very derivative.

  • great song, but does anyone know what a Grainger man is?lol

  • @Icequeen1962 I think he was the landlord of one of the venues they played at in London, Red Cow or Hope and Anchor, one of those not sure which.

  • @almklit yes I heard that only a week or so ago in an interview with JJB. Apparantly he was a benevolent kind of chap, very supportive of the band when they were struggling in the early days. Thanks anyway.

  • Great! Long time since this song was aired. This one's on the down-stroke baz. Strap yourself in and prepare to solo.

  • Top London burlesque club with the best burlesque show videos by far. Keep up the good work

  • Baz sure looks like the pub landlord

  • Doesn't get much better than this

  • Sound on this is superb... best live voacls iv'e heard from JJ

  • takes me back 32 years!!! just love em still.

  • 2nd last truly greal stranglers tour. veteran of 51 gigs most pre 82. now band to take your wife to. too much crap not enough balls. leave the women at home so we can have our band back

  • @TheManus02 misogynist! what crap. i have been a fan since 1977 and have lost count of the times i have seen them. they have always had a staunch female fan base. fact is they are no longer 20 odd year old kids , they have matured . its ridiculous to expect them to perform like the they did 30 years ago.get real .

  • Shame they didn't play this on there most recent tour.

  • The Stranglers have always been, and will always be, amongst the greatest Britain has ever produced, with 12 tremendous albums. (Let's just pretend 1990-2000 never happened, eh? Sorry John Ellis!)

  • love jjs rock voice

  • i agree roberts was a pain in the? baz has given them the balance back' best live band i agree, looking forward to concert in glasgow feb'

  • Ive seen the Stranglers 13 times, always with Hugh at the helm.

Hated Roberts and just couldn't understand why the rest of the band went with him ?

With Baz up front with JJ they have that killer instinct back and are truly back to their best.

    Best live band ever.

  • i totally agree!!! Baz is great...he fits totally with the classic stranglers spirit.....Roberts was more to sing to some pop-dance-disco band!!!

  • i agree man , roberts was like a fan who got on stage and went silly ,, i love these fuckers,,

  • Sound great guys!

  • Big Thumbs up 2U MrMarkdorris Why can't more people take the same attitude.I for one totally agree with what U have 2 say about PR- It wasn;t his idea THE STRANGS became a 5 piece it was theirs, possibly 2 accomodate John Ellis!! --I met Paul Roberts when he was helping keep it all together for us(like him or loathe him) on 3 occasions and found him a very personable bloke, unlike certain previous members that sodded off and would have left the whole of the stranglers fanbase in desolation!!!!

  • brilliant

  • thanks eagle, anyone think they will ever get any recognition from the Brit Awards dont think I will hold my breath on that one. Got to be as good as Spice Girls for that, shame really that.

  • Why are you watching/listening then. If you cant handle that they have moved on after all these years the answer is simple move on yourself . I agree P.Roberts was not the best but if it stopped them from splitting up job done. Personally I think the latest album is up there with Rattus, but hey what do I know we all have an opinion.

  • Agree the last album was great. The Stranglers with Baz are better now than they have been for a long time

  • Here, here! Or should that be hear! hear!? A great return to form as an album and as a band

  • bring back hugh, the stranglers finished when he left, all the original members are awesome and if any of them had left it would not have been the same.

  • JJ's voice is amazing!

  • much better with just the four of them! i couldnt stand that catwalk creep roberts - he was too full of himself. not a man in black, although baz warne has something about him, ie he doesnt seem to give a f*ck!

  • Much better as a 4 piece again. Hated the Cockney Barrow Boy singer they had.

  • it's good but i prefer the original

  • im telling you the gospel truth' amazing s1v

  • WOULD THEY EVER HAVE HUGH BACK...?

  • Don't slag Hugh off! You wouldn't even be watching this if it wasn't for him! Peace!

  • dont forget this is hughs music baz is playing here, meat heads.

  • This is 'Stranglers' music baz is playing ... and a Strangler he is!

  • @2pintgardener and JJs, Hugh didn't write all the songs ( although if ya read his books ya would think he did) Frankly some of the post Hugh material is just as good in fact in some cases better. JJB is easily as an accomplished a song writer, he just doesn't make a meal out of it, like Hugh.

  • Quality.

  • that little baby in the front row be kind? jj has his eye on you? bitching

  • BEST BAND EVER YOU MEANT DAVE?

  • Best band still around easy

  • Great song-anyone know of a vintage version?

  • I was at this gig it was amazing, we even got to hear the first half twice.

  • i think this is the best song of the night, pure classic great sound s1v

  • Hugh can get lost. Remember he LEFT them. I went to the Ally Pally gig in 1990 & I went to this. This was miles better

  • I totally agree. I love the Stranglers both old and new and I am fed up with Hugh extremists trying to say that the Strangs are crap without him. My praise goes to the other three who kept them going as well as Paul, John, and now Baz who supported them afterwards. The Stranglers are even better than ever. The last CD Siute xv1 is the best album they have done for a long time. amazing. They have managed without Hugh

  • Cheers. Hugh tried to do a Sting & it failed. He let his friends down. Baz is alright

  • Saw them ladt night at the acadamy, warm up band wasnt up too much, but they were AMAZING!

  • just back from carling academy glasgow 1st nov 2008. the glers are better than ever took time out 2 meet the fans after it an big baz is a gler head through an through hes the dogs nads. still love shuggy though.

  • saw them last night in Dundee - they were the biz - lead singer is the rats bollocks

  • Bitching is on Heroes, not Rattus.

  • Saw the Old Codger Cornwell a few months back...how disappointed was I? Has aged very quickly & reckon there's no way he could cut it with the Stranglers live set now; Warnes much better anyway, it's a totally different band. Really appreciate Hughs early input, but, even at a book signing I went to a few years back, it was apparant he's had his day. He played a few acoustic Stranglers numbers & everyone was looking around at each other, ever so slightly embarassed for him....

  • Sadly, yeah, Hugh's lost it nowadays. I honestly believe he was better than Baz when he was in his prime but now he's rather poor and the stranglers are better off without him.

  • Total joke with no Hugh,Dead kennedys are doing the same with no jello biafra.

  • bitch

  • SUPERB

  • Olympic Gold for this lot I reckon, f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c- live band, the ghost of Hugh Cornwell laid to rest, at last (God rest his soul)

  • JJs been at the woodbines I think

  • why cant you all be like the grainger m,an

  • fuckin quality!

  • ah bitching,

  • Lemmy? Sounds like old skool jj to me.The Strangs are back big time.

  • what happened to jj's voice?

    sounds like lemmy (motörhead)!!!!!

    still, cool

  • Shame you cut "Burning Up Time" halfway through. Bitching was surprisingly good. Glad to see they're back to some semblance of form after that Paul "I wannabe Michael Hutchence" Rogers left.

  • Don't you mean Paul ROBERTS? Paul Rogers is the current lead singer of Queen (I think)

  • Aye.. he's so shite I can't even bring myself to type his name properly.

  • Yes, he was awful-I don't know how he managed to become lead singer.

  • He was not that bad. The Stanglers could have done a lot worse. Norfolk Coast was a decent album and overall Paul did a fine job.

  • I think he found his voice within the last few years, but he was still one of the biggest contributing factors to the wilderness years.

  • Paul was a nice guy but at times he crooned too much. I like Baz cos he's like a Stranglers - it's like he's always been there.

  • love jjs rock voice . any guitarists out there play this solo its great.

  • Looks like The Stranglers have got a new lease of life......very impressed....and they're back in black.........sounds like they've summoned up those old old black demons......

  • I LL TELL YOU WHAT WELL MEET AMSTERDAM.

  • Jet Black, nearly 70 and still as good as ever on the drums.

  • stranglers are back

  • Great to hear Burnel singing more. Don't know why he didn't take over lead vocals when Hugh left. Paul Roberts was a joke.

  • cool as fuck! More!

  • Well, what can you say? Unreal!

  • Fantastic band. timeless music and so much energy from the boys. Brilliant live. Will now search out the DVD and enjoy it like all of the stranglers Cds and DVDs I have. For those who have not seen them live GO and see them it's a must see band.

  • wow - so this is available on DVD? How ?

  • Glad you all liked the DVD.

It was a great gig to work on.

I was really excited about doing it even though I have worked with them before I knew this was going to be a great gig.

The fuckups with the keyboards made it even better on the night!!

  • I would like it a lot more if I could get a region 1 copy as I live in Florida. Missed this gig but Glasgow was great!

    AL

  • comment pet on trouver et acheter ce dvd si vous plait???est il dispo en france??

  • Without doubt the best band over the last 30 years. This is one of my fav Strangs songs of all time.

  • The best Stranglers DVD in yonks! Even better than some of the recorded gigs with Hugh Cornwell still in the band (Ally Pally springs to mind!). A must buy.

  • Your right mate. What Hugh with his stupid poses & stripped white trousers. This IS more like it

  • Cool, the DVD is brilliant best they have ever realeased.

  • Go Iceman Go!

  • Thanks nbm but sorry no jon bovi on this channel!
