  • That's going to take a lot of ASM work to reimplement the graphic changes in the other levels.

I wish Cubivore good luck on this project.

  • Excellent video, well you can hope BANDAI or NAMCO can pull this one out of the hat by some impossible scenario in which they add this beta dump as a bonus on some theme related game! Well you can always ask them directly, maybe they'd be crazy enough to do it!!! I hope so, this is a little gem that's carved into my heart ( not the a valentine's day looking one, blood dripping biology referenced splatterhouse energy meter like heart hehehehe) and would love to see anything related to it!!!

  • @areliusmars

There is a beta project under way, though its going to be different since we don't know the extent of everything. That's going used to make the game better.

  • @silenceofthehills Well, what I meant from the beginning regarding namco and bandai is that maybe you can contact someone and ask them to dump the rom so that fans can get to try it out, or maybe some crazy gy on the net might dump it somehow, I dunno!! Let me know when your project is up and runing so I can check it out.

  • @silenceofthehills The Bets version of the game was recently auctioned off in Japan. It's just never come up as an emulator.

  • @Themaniacnextdoor

    Really? That's interesting.

  • @silenceofthehills I just hope its being well treated, alothough i have no idea who was lucky enough tio get it.

  • where can i download the beta?

  • @thedirtys2006

Actually, there isn't one. However, Cubivore is hard at work on a recreation hack, similar to that of the SMW Beta hack.

  • Bases on the screenshots of the unreleased japanese version, it could have been a a much cooler game. Just look at that head spider!

This game still has a lot of cool stuff in it though.

  • creepy that just earlier i was wondering about this game.. i remember playing it as a kid and i couldn't remember the name.. then i stumble across this video. odd.

  • This remind anyone else of Eversion?

  • You know, I feel like remaking this with DS styled Sprites, and using the BETA bosses and levels. This game could kick-ass if it was like the beta. Of course a less dumb story line would make sence. Like why did Bert want mark's help if he is better than mark in EVERY way.

  • @hubacchris

I believe a correction to the story would be that they invade earth and Bert sees Mark fending off some mosters with his bat quite well. Then he decides to give his bat strength and helps him.

Thinking a boy is good enough to go off into his home planet as a saviour is a bad decision.

All in all, it was ment to be like a child's story book where stuff like that would happen quite often and therefore a light revising of diologue is enough needed.

  • Oh Ok.

  • Too bad this game was thrown into obscurity. Sad since it's one of my favorites of the NES era.

  • Yeah, I love this game.

  • This is far by one of the most craziest games I have ever played. It feels SO Japanese in terms of the style of the game. If only a Japanese version was released,we would of gotten more light on this mysterious game. I guess all we can do is dream. I found it amusing at the edits/changes that were made due to Nintendo being more strict than a soccer mom back then. It's funny the only place that the "slime" was inserted was the title screen then after that,we see blood and stuff everywhere.

  • I agree and hey, if you haven't already, check out my comparison of a similar game's Japanese and American version.

Xexyz is a game similar to this one with little door ways along the way, though they could contain simple boss fights or items. Overall, it feels lightly similar to Monster Party albiet different.

  • Arrgh! Hit "post" too soon. The "nightmare" gimmick would have led to running out of disk space really fast, which is why you don't see any of the other levels like that. At least that's my theory.

  • I wouldn't think so. In terms of RAM, it replaces the tiles. In terms of cart space, basically, it's as if it's own level or room with different graphics. The game has only 6 to 8 levels tops.

With some other games, 12-16 sets of graphics wouldn't be that big a deal. Look at the Ninja Gaiden games. Lots of levels in each, and very few set repeat.

  • Hm, that's a good point.

  • The thing at the midpoint of level 1 is a haniwa, basically the Japanese equivalent of garden gnomes.

    The "nightmare

  • hmm...I always thought of the dead monster boss looked like a bird. you can see its beak, its tounge sticking out,its wings and its feet.its just all skinned n such.

  • Yeah, there are many things you can make it out as. Officialy they dub it a spider...yet.

A theory was that it was a mistake of translation or an early version of the manual not being corrected.

The thing I was pointing out was that the early design with the face and tougue kind of makes it make more sense. It has the red tongue thing. Just maybe it's in a different possision.

It's mouth part is probably just like the redesigned version where it's segmented like a real spider.

  • I think it looks like a bird or a turtle thing as well. Some other people said a lizard or dino.

  • Too bad after party wasnt made, the game would look pretty damn cool if they did it like what the fake pics looked like.

Side note (first lvl hellish point after the caactus thing, the music still creeps me out too this day...

  • I'm saying that the spider boss with the head on it from the beta, where remade graphics, the monkey, key, etc., was all found for real in the ROM

  • Ah, I looked at the article and found that you are the poster. I knew the name was familiar.

Yes, I rechecked the article and know what you mean. They remade the graphic tiles as close to the original scans of the beta. Similar to a SMWCentral user who is doing the same to the SMW beta.

Is there any information as to how anyone could get their hands on this reproduction?

  • I'm not aware of a reproduction...

  • I didn't know weather they were just joking and the games were still real (like little sites will do). There is real games there too, but they add humour to the site overal.

  • I dunno if you knew, but the spider boss was made from scratch, and Monster After Party, sadly, is fake...

  • What do you mean about the spider being made from scratch? If you mean someone made it as in a hack, then your sadly wrong. This was taken from an old screengrab of a tv and apears even at unseen64

Were did you here about the other on the sequel? It's not that I don't know about fakes, but there is no indication at the site I went to.

  • The screenshot with the spider is real, but the graphics with the other unused stuff is all remade. It's not the original.

  • They are all real.

I looked into a ROM and found that the monkey did exist still on witin!

  • No, just the spider head was remade, the other stuff was real.

  • ...ok then....you just....kinda...reversed your last post.

  • Ok, this reply thing got messed up...make your new reply as a new comment please. This thing got out of order some how.

  • Also there are many un-released games on this site too were this other comes from.

  • Your right about Monster After party. I found another post there that explains this, sorry everyone.

  • Thanks for making me double check Cubivore10

  • You got pwned dog!

  • Well, the person from unseen 64 said it's happened a couple of times in other articles. Just a mistake.

  • Ah okey, your the man dog ;)

  • Yeah, I've seen this.

  • Is it back up now?

  • yea, this is pretty nice dude. good find

  • Thanks. I wish this was the version that came out too. I also hope it would include a shift in each level as well.

  • hey, it says its gone. I was looking forward to this

  • It might be up now.
