But now I don't really play music games anymore because I don't get that same ''climbers high'' as I used to. PS-his son must be really young if my dad was Chris Cornell I'd say screw games ''daddy teach me how to play ''Hungerstrike'' by Temple of a Dog and ''Hunted Down'' and a bunch of other Soundgarden songs. :)
Dude Rockband and Guitar Hero got me into real guitar. Because at some point when you 100% almost every song in the games on expert (ultra hard difficulty) at some point you think ''what now''. Thats what I did. At first the real guitar was 100% different and felt weird, I sucked of course. But over the years I've gotten better and now write music alot and want to start a band some time in the future. If it wasn't for those games I would have never gotten into real guitar playing.
Guitar hero has nothing to do with music. You hit a color coded button when the matching color lines up over a designated space. I'm not saying that isn't fun, but the guitar hero controller is just a controller shaped like a guitar. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the mechanics of playing a real guitar, nor does it have anything to do with playing or reading actual music. Let's see how many people now send me messages telling me to fuck myself. cheers.
@SaypheZonE I dont play video games. But I do like guitar hero, WHY. cause it made kids get back into ROCK music and away from Rap. When I was growing up everybody was listening to Eninem, Juvinile dr dre and lil wayne. I respect it cause its art but rap doesnt do it for me, them old blues players do way more for me and rock came from the blues. Rap was invented because the blues and rock music were stolen from blacks for profit so the black men had to be inovative and come up with rap
Guitar Hero & Rock Band won't teach one to play a musical instrument. But, it may teach one how music basically works. Even better, may inspire one to want to learn to play an instrument and hopefully, keep the art of music from dying!!!
about 4 years ago I was obsessed with rockband for a short period of time....i was in the middle of playing a song when i said fuck this...turned the game off...and decided to pick up a real guitar...have played everyday since!...rockband did nothing for my dexterity..the only thing that can do that is playing the real thing....it did help me pay closer attention to the arrangement of music though....
Guitar Hero gave me and idea of how to play guitar, but the new Rock Band Pro Guitars WILL teach you, 6 strings, 17 frets, really hard to play and I know how to play guitar

I think Tom Morello would be more upset to have it be known he was in a private jet playing video games; rather bourgeoisie for a member of RAtM. Personally, I find it funny as hell.
Not true at all. Being able to play GH well significantly improves the dexterity and strength of your fingers and how well you're able to apply the pressure to specific points of an object.
@McGradyBrendan No, it doesn't. You don't use nearly the same strength to press a plastic button that you use to hold down a metal string. And your dexterity playing 6 strings (multiplied by 22 frets) doesn't get better by hitting 5 buttons.
Yeah, actually, it does. I know from experience. If you want to be one of those tight arses who think they know someone better than they do, go ahead. I take no issue with your opinion other than it simply not being the case for me (and a few of my friends).
I bought an acoustic guitar last year. Tried learning a few basic riffs, usual beginner stuff. Never got any lessons. Never made much progress.
Picked up GH, became exceptional at it. Became inspired to play guitar again after months of it gathering dust.
Tried to play riffs I'd previously found impossible. Played them relatively fluidly. Most significant improvement was ring finger/pinky strength and the ability to hammer on/pull off much more speedily.
@McGradyBrendan yeah you could of done that with some good old pratice. Sounds like you lack discipline, and that you are easily bored. So all the flashing lights and sound of the video game kept you over stimulated brain occupied enough not to get bored. You comment doesnt prove guitar hero will make you better at guitar, it proves you a lazy dumbass.
Awful camera work...Also, Rock Band 3 has much more realistic interpretations of their respective instruments, so one could possibly learn how to play the real thing from the game.
Well, you know what dude? You were right last year, when Chris made that strange album with Timbaland (or whatever his name is). He even said it himself: "Some people call me a sellout. If I were a sellout, I would do a reunion tour with Soundgarden. What I did now is completely different from anything I did in the past". I could see his point then. But what about now? Soundgarden is back together and the first thing they did is a "retrospective" album and tour. That's disappointing to me.
@septicbro I don't consider anything a sell-out if it's genuine, and everything I've heard Chris and Soundgarden do has been genuine. It's about having a career and bringing your art to the world, and if the public supports it, all the better.
Well, of course re-releasing songs they did back in the 90s is genuine...duh. I am certainly not disappointed in those songs, I am fan, so I love them. The disappointing part is that they're doing nothing new (except the one song). Chris had said that the only remote possibility for his old band to reunite was to make a new album that sounded better than Down on the Upside. I don't see that yet.
Yes, the whole Soundgarden reunion and Guitar Hero thing is very disappointing to me as a fan of Chris Cornell. And as for Tom Morello sucking at Guitar Hero, I think it's just natural. You're not playing guitar, you are reproducing with a controller what you see rolling on a screen. It's a completely different brain activity and I see no reason why playing guitar hero should help a kid learn to play guitar.
haha...tom morello sucks at guitar hero, but he is a guitar god in real life!! And paris hilton being there?! There is no connection.. I think she's cute and all but it's strange

Guitar Hero is about as close to playing a real guitar as Gran Turisimo (or any other driving game for that matter) is to driving a real car.
inphanta 6 months ago
There is no correlation between between the game and the instrument. You will not get learn or get better at guitar by playing guitar hero
