The movie has been dumbed down to fool kids and their parents in the hope that they'll buy his garbage, where in the end the children kill God and everyone can do as they please. The movie is indescribably evil. The word "demon" is repeated several dozen times throughout the movie, as each child has it's own lovable demon. Witches by the hundreds are featured in the movie, & are portrayed as being good, helpful and rescuers.
@XpressTUBER You have obviously failed to grasp the basic concepts of the book. The Authority in the story was in immense suffering, kept alive for Metatron's personal ends. The children did Him a favor in allowing Him to pass on. As for the daemons, they are a representation of the soul, not the evil beings of Christianity.
Finally, congratulations: yes, the witches are good guys. Your reading comprehension isn't THAT terrible, I suppose
A pity the film didn't live up to the book. I mean, it does have a good soundtrack, but it wasn't as dark. It softened the themes rather too much and more or less killed its appeal to those of us who read the book as kids and grew up able to understand the deeper, more adult themes.
I love the last song from this video. It's called "Epilogue" I guess. This is why, even though this movie is a bad adptation from the book, the ending always makes me cry. It's because of that song... simply love it!
@MyDanDoo Just wanted you to know what it felt like to be insulted! And by the look of your replies I see I have struck that cord. Just remember don't dish it out if you can't take it... and you love dishing it out all over youtube. My work here is done. btw COMMUNICATE..... LOL
@MyDanDoo besides needing to grow a pair you also need a pair of glasses! Also, your need to use curse words only shows your lack of imagination and ability to comunicate with people.
@MyDanDoo Hey Numb Nuts.. I never said you liked the books better than the movies.. you better re-read what I posted! I said you don't have the imagination to enjoy the books and understand why PEOPLE alway say the books are better than the movie.. You can dish out the crap but you can't take it... grow a pair!
@MyDanDoo "which relies on the reader's imagination" That's why you like the movies better than books MyDanDoo, because you don't have the imagination to enjoy the books and understand why people alway say the books was better than the movie! A person can love the book and appreciate the movie.. we have the ability to tell the difference. And we also understand how good music can set the tone in a movie that dialog can't. We're not dumb! LauraWhitehead1 love the music, thanks.
@LauraWhitehead1 my sis says its all satanic crap cuz they have demons she is alway dissin my stuff and im pretty sure its bacause she little miss photographer little miss perfect
@LauraWhitehead1 True, and, in addition to the lighter tone, they omitted the ending betrayal scenes from the movie. I think they wanted a happy ending
The Golden Compass books are AMAZING, but the movie was horrible to me. The music wasnt that great, it should have been WAY more epic. I think that Hans Zimmer could have done a great job with the Golden Compass score.
I really think that Williams is greater at writing themes than he is at writing scores. Alexandre Desplat knows how to take something and stretch into something amazing.
The music is nice, but the orchestration isn't. I do prefere John Williams' orchestrations but I agree that Williams's not as good as he was. But one thing is sure, Desplat is much better than Nicholas Hooper, who did the music for Harry Potter 5 and 6.
In all honesty, I preferred Hooper's music to all the others.
Williams' scores are good, but the more I hear them, the more cliché they sound. I'd prefer something fresh, something new...
This music sounds really cool at times and really cliché and overdone at other times, so I can't judge what it will sound like in HP, but I'm certainly anxious to hear it...
The fact with Hooper is that he didn't do any orchestration. I think it's a must to be an orchestrator when you score a movie, because you score it the way you want.
I think Williams deserves a last chance though. He's very old. Just one more big film score to finish it off. If you look at his recent scores he hasn't really had the chance to do a popular film since Star Wars.
@mmnessa It depends on the song. Hooper has wrote wondrous songs (the Opening of HP and the H-B prince for example). I think that Desplat's music is too "empty" if you see what I mean; John Williams' orchestrations are gigantic (very big orchestras) but Desplat's aren't at the same level.
i agree, john williams is STILL the compose he was before, Prisoner of Azkaban was an awesome soundtrack and Indiana Jones 4 was a brillant score harking back to the originals. I really wanted to hear hedwig's theme again and many others. If anything John williams should cap the musical story he started
@starwarsworld Considering that this score is probably his worst, next to Julie & Julia and Cheri. Check out his Girl with a Pearl Earring score, in perticular "Griet's Theme". Then tell me what you think. Not to mention that this guy has improved greatly over the last 4 years. I think he'll do wonderfully.
Unfortunately, Williams' schedule is really getting full (or so I read, I believe on mugglenet) so it's touch and go whether he scores for Part II. This guy, however, isn't that bad - let's compare him to Nicholas Hooper for a moment and sit back and have a think. I don't know what it is about his music (maybe that it comes across just as a little tacky?) but I can't bring myself to like the Hooper scores.
You're right. It does a little. But Desplat's music has so much more depth and haunting accents that James Newton Howard doesn't have. It was so disappointing that Jackson abandoned Howard Shore's original score for 2005's "King Kong"in favor of Newton Howard's.
