I being a capitalist have a point to argue, and while I wont be like most of the ignorant idiots here saying "ZOOOMGG Communism was evil and killed people." I will say this. Throughout the Cold War, the "Free World" or the Capitalist West controlled most of the world's wealth. Communist states like Russia, China, NK and Vietnam went through severe famines under communist land reforms and all of these countries had to adopt capitalist policies after the failure of these communist ones.

It is the 2nd world countries not 3rd world. Only china experienced famines but if it was a capitalist state then famines would have been fatal. That the US economy peaked at over 30% of the world's wealth and the Soviet economy never went above 5%. Not to mention that the US had allies that at times were richer than the USSR. Although I will let the 80s slide as economically it was an unfair time for the USSR. However the West indisputably controlled the majority of the world's wealth during the period.

@Kirkzzy If you are talking about Europe then yes. The health care isn't completely free but works well. A citizen only have pay a vert small part of the expense. But that is because of their socialist policies that the education and health care system is good, NOT because they are market-capitalist. Look at the policies that made life better in Europe and you will see that they are pretty socialist. And look at USA, a country completely capitalist and see how they suck at making life better.

It is essentially capitalism but with government guidance, these are sometimes referred to as "Nanny States" And healthcare is free and good, over here in Australia it is completely free. Although we have a good system in between America's and Europe's like I can go to a private hospital (shorter wait is pretty much only difference, better room maybe - although same health quality).

Communism is a CLASSLESS and STATELESS society. (Not the USSR as it had classes and a state)
Lenin's idea of how to achieve communism was to create a vanguard party of intelligentsia, to control and thereby direct the stupid masses(the workers and peasants) towards this new society.

All the soviet revolution did, is remove the bourgeoisie Tsar's, and replace them with new bourgeoisie, the communist party.
In fact soon after 1918 revolution, Lenin destroyed any chance of ''Socialism'' by destroying all means for workers to manage themselves.
Lenin also paved the path for Stalinism, I.E dictatorship.

Throughout the Cold War, the "Free World" or the Capitalist West controlled most of the world's wealth. Communist states like Russia, China, NK and Vietnam went through severe famines under communist land reforms and all of these countries had to adopt capitalist policies after the failure of these communist ones.

It is the 2nd world countries not 3rd world. Only china experienced famines but if it was a capitalist state then famines would have been fatal. @TheBlindPowerslave Very good thanks for that. Although what about the fact that Western countries had higher GDP per capita? That the US economy peaked at over 30% of the world's wealth and the Soviet economy never went above 5%. Not to mention that the US had allies that at times were richer than the USSR. Although I will let the 80s slide as economically it was an unfair time for the USSR. However the West indisputably controlled the majority of the world's wealth during the period.

The rest of the West have far greater education and health care because at the end of the cold war they were based on a social market economy. People in Western countries have better education, healthcare, life expectancy, quality of life and most importantly HDI. Please go look these facts up.

@Kirkzzy If you are talking about Europe then yes. The health care isn't completely free but works well. A citizen only have pay a vert small part of the expense. But that is because of their socialist policies that the education and health care system is good, NOT because they are market-capitalist. Look at the policies that made life better in Europe and you will see that they are pretty socialist. And look at USA, a country completely capitalist and see how they suck at making life better.

@TheBlindPowerslave Actually if we are looking at Euro policies as I said social market economy. It is essentially capitalism but with government guidance, these are sometimes referred to as "Nanny States" And healthcare is free and good, over here in Australia it is completely free. Although we have a good system in between America's and Europe's like I can go to a private hospital (shorter wait is pretty much only difference, better room maybe - although same health quality).

It is the struggle of the workers over last centuries that made the state change from a completely capitalist society to a more social state. If you care for the people, socialism is the way to go, not capitalism.

Might I also remind you that by the end of the Cold War American farmers were producing over 7 times the amount of Russian farmers, mainly because in Communism you can't strive for anything. Over here if I set my mind to it and say "I really want a big house and nice family when I grow up" I can work towards it and get it.

@TheBlindPowerslave No the point is I can strive for exellence and gain it if I wish. And in Australia we have less than a percent of our population living in poverty. You pretty much have to choose if you want to be homeless. I get free education for most of my life, up to Uni and then I don't even have to pay up front, I pay when I enter the workforce. I can also start my own business and do what I please without the government intervening in my life.

As a famous saying goes, democracy is the worst type of goverment, except for all others. Capatilism and Democracy is the most effecient way of running while surely having its problems, it is the best way for a country to run. As proven countlessly through out history.

The reason Europe is going down at the moment is because all they did was spend and print until they went bankrupt. They're bankrupt because they tried to fund this socialist welfare state. @dave19941000 It is feared Germany may also have a debt crisis as well as France as these are countries that still have very large debt. Denmark has 11% public debt, it is struggling having just had its economy contract by over 5.7% in one year alone and if memory serves me 0.8% the year before, it is not growing at just over a percent, still might fall into a crisis. Norway is not part of the EU and is extremely wealthy so that point is moot. And Sweden has rejected the Euro.
