well, "need" is a strong word, of course you don't ... but, I've heard Andy talking about different tunings and chord patterns, and thats theory :P ... hell, knowing the names of your notes and chords, is theory, and its theory that helps pretty massively when you're making music, especially when you want to express to someone what you're playing...
ur talking to me asif i know nothing of music im a year away from being a teacher myself and was just saying how he messed up his timing and afew notes its just funny because players like him and antoine are famous for nailing everything more antoine than andy as antoine is a taught guitarist where andy is self taught and thus has lots of bad habbits ie the whole resting little finger on the body of the guitar thus losing a finger for playing with!
he messes up alot y is he so nervous he has no need to be what so ever i think the only reason he messed up so much is cause he started the song at such a higher tempo than usally played and he dident wanna slow tempo mid song or it wuda sounded weird
meh i cud jus b making exuses for him but its gotta b sumfin like tht hes amazing
It's called "liver performance". Humans aren't always in perfect tempo and rhythm. If you are comparing this to the recorded version, please don't. Recordings are usually done strictly, and are done either to a metronome or a backing track. But, that misses what live performance has to offer; the human aspect of feeling, emotion, dynamics and decision-making. Also, stop with the Orwellian new-speak. You are conspiring to dumb down the world and you don't even know it.
im not dissing him in any way just this is the worst iv ever seen him play and iv seen him alot i really think nerves got the best of him for once what a rare sight =P
Hey, diss him or not. I really don't care. But, I am just trying to instill into you that musicians are not robots. We do screw up, we do miss a note here and there, and yes, we do have bad days. Actually, most of our best days are when there isn't another ear around but our own. I would not call his playing as screwing up, I prefer to know that he is just in a different groove on this particular day. He nailed all of the parts, he just decided to change up the tempo on a few parts.
the guy is right. Tremelo is one thing, emotion is one other. there's nothing bad or crazy if your hands tremble when you play in front of thousands of people. and it's more honorable when you tremble and then you play that perfectly rather than not trembling at all. he is a human being and he is like us all. that's what makes him great
his hands are doing a lot of things, its his own special complicated technique.
i would'nt say a bumble bee trembles. he is simply doing his technique faster than the eye can follow, thats what andy is doing. he's not human. he's not like one of us. andy does'nt tremble. the cameraman may hsve trembled in his awe of andy's guitar playing skills. now evough of this trembling stuff.
In some parts, you can clearly see his hands trembling... I guess he was feeling like frozen by fear and emotion.. but he still kicked ass.. he's a human being, and he feels pression and whatever... but he rocks... he definitively rocks...
One thing you have to remember is that if you have watched a lot of the vids where he is wearing his red t shirt in the studio its gonna be a perfect take where he can replay it if he misses a note. Playing live is different but he still kicks ass. Check him out on the woodsongs - he plays some great versions on those vids.

hey man, jsyk, i'm quite sure Andy uses theory, even if he didn't study it in a class room ...

@mobbbosss i'm sure andy doesnt. you dont need music theory at all to create music.

so what if he made some mistakes? Classical guitarists who train for decades still make mistakes routinely in live performances.
