  • whats the name of the song??

  • @dannc1123 Richard Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries

  • Gale Force Sound, I see.

  • In high school we used to debate the merits of Maxell vs. TDK. I was always a Maxell fan. I still have a box of unopened blanks. It makes me a little sad to think I'll never use them!

  • Back when quality of your recordings actually meant something to people....

  • Do they still make cassette?

  • Maxell... Still delivering high fidelity after 144,400 plays.

  • SAW THIS ON FAMILY GUY!!

  • I love they way he say's "yess"

  • @Trashcansam123 He says "Please" not yes.

  • fancy livin

  • The "blown away guy" is Joe Walsh.

  • Love ho he slowly anticipangly grabs the glass, while still chilled out.

  • What happens if I put Dub-step...

  • @cigarr0000 Gore. Lots and lots of gore.

  • 'Ride of the Valkyries', right ?

  • @Yenastuundepaspris55 Flight of the Valkyeries.

  • @Thadesgal it's Ride not Flight.

  • @701068 oops... :o /

  • cd

  • Family guy sent me

  • Thumbs up if you saw this in memory of Ryan Dunn.

  • RYAN DUNN'S VERSION WAS THE BEST! RIP.

Search "Ryan Dunn Jet Engine" if you don't know what I'm talking about. They spoof this and it's hilarious.

  • And, as an afterthought, now we all have MP3 players and phones that stream and play music. Music everywhere, but we listen to it on tinny sounding pieces of crap systems. It seems no one cares if it sounds good or not.

  • @genericxanex If seems no one cares if sound- and that's it. There's plenty of people that keep their music on all fucking day, from early morning till late evening, at times in the night, even. One wonders: Are you actually listening to it or are you doing itjust to piss me off?

  • Ahhh, those were the days. I still have a few of those tapes. Can't buy good, hi bias tape anywhere now. The thing about this commercial is that people still remember it 30 years later. That has to mean something.

  • I just watched Mr. Pewterschmidt reenact this on Family Guy, classic

  • @DeeNificent80 me too right now :D

  • I think Sony is still the best brand of all. Sony and Jbl Best brand in the world

  • to think...

commercials used to be like this

now all we have is 50 cent advertising some reeses puffs cereal or some bogus shit like that.....

    fuck this, im outta here

  • @angryslug1

    @lordjames78

Cmon.. People really tink every commercial in 80s was like this? You see great commercials all the time (on YouTube, who watches them on tv anymore).

And some are already saying how 90s rap and eurodance was real music..

  • fuck yeah

  • Well... at least they still make good batteries!!

  • Ride of the Valkyries!!

  • BAD ASS commercial !!

  • Anyone know where I can get a gif of him in the chair?

  • Anybody know a movie with a poster of this guy on a wall above a character sitting on a couch?

  • lmao on jackass

  • ich hab schluckauf

  • i remember this comercial from a long time ago

  • DANIEL BRYAN!

  • I love how Jackass parodied this commercial! (The young bucks don't get that scene, though!)

  • JACKASS!!!

  • MysteryGuitarMan did this with a bunch of fans. Begin search now.

  • Fucking Pro.

  • @lordjames78 true... but by today's standards this would be regarded "false advertising"

  • whats the song?!!?!?!?!!?

  • @notthatinnocent86

from Wagner: ride of the valkyries (Die Walküre)

  • @notthatinnocent86 The song is from an old war movie called "Victory at Sea"......

  • The usual sir?

    Please!

  • RYAN DUNN #FTW

  • I love how the Jackass crew payed tribute to this XD I knew that segment came from somewhere!

  • 8 people were to blown away to press the Like button

  • aways love this

  • I like it :D

  • Okay, so it was a commercial. I've been trying to figure out where Family Guy got that from for so long.

  • I love it how he doesn't even look and he just grabs the wine glass

  • lol i tried this at home ended up blowing out my speaks but my glass didnt move an inch lol. all it did was shake

  • @some1sweetlyspecial because you didnt have maxell.

  • @some1sweetlyspecial Doubt anything you said actually happened.

  • ROFL

  • hahahahaha wits what is that song

  • @MYSWEETDAR It's Ride of the Valkyrie, from the opera "Der Ring des Nibelungen" (composer = Richard Wagner).

  • 'The usual, sir?"

  • Single most iconic commercial ever.

  • This was on family guy!!

  • durrr

  • lol....ghetto tapes

  • go 80's!

  • doesn't work don't bother

  • I'm going to do this when i get my own place.

  • I have and do often. :D

  • @Bogframe ?????????

  • Its so Epic^^

  • Back when "cool" still meant something. Necktie and classical music.

  • Valkuren Ritt

  • loool, but aint that advertising how good the speakers are rather than the cassette?

  • @Nihil1995

Speakers only reproduce what's being played...think about it!

  • lmfao XD awesome

  • The music is Ride of the Valkyries

  • @middley1984

    Also used in Apocolypse Now...remember?

  • whats the name of the song?

  • I love how they didn't even line the tape up properly in the last shot ;)

  • This advert is Great =)

Its funny when family guy do a parody of it XD

But when Zane Lowe does to promote his show on mtv2, its just gay =/

  • Looks sooooooo fuck:ng cool!

  • haha this kills all the ipods thats out there

  • i wish we still had commercials like this. that would be the shit.

  • @lordjames78 Commercials' quality is not attahced to the decade they were released in. There are few great commercials, few terrible commercials and tons of so-so commercials. It's always been like this.

  • My favorite commercial of all time! i have a poster of this ad hanging in my garage.

  • I got a poster of this too!....lol

  • Sad that today Maxell makes crappy ipod accessories and equally crappy audio/video gear sold at Kmart and Target made of cheap plastic!

  • you are a retard to be scared of this!

  • I was a little kid!

  • I look this up because i saw it on Family guy

  • i like this one

but i also like the "re-make" of it where the butler puts a CD in and it actually blows him and the lamp and the chair and drink/table away

  • JBL L100s

  • anybody remember the one where he pulls up in a porsche with a targa roof and the roof flies off, wish i could find that commercial

  • My dad still has these exact same speakers in the commercial. They're JBL's, over 30 years old, and still sound awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • i want a speaker like this :D

  • I remembered this commercial back in the day when I was only like 9 and I still remember it. I don't normally say this but : Great job for the ad agency that did this job!!!

  • go to "go go girls dancing on tables" to see what people do to get more customers. Please comment.

  • so funny

the guy is in G force

    cool and funny!

  • they should emake this, where an ipod is put into an idock

  • XDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • A crappy apple product like an ipod filled with 256kbps aac songs wouldn't match the fidelity of that tape.

  • lol you have no clue what you're talkin about

  • Of course I do. What I'm saying is that modern digital music can't hold a candle to old lossless formats.

  • You're out of your mind.

  • I agree for the most part. Ipod quality is terrible.

    FLAC is pretty awesome though.

  • agree ooziemeizer maxell best quality, i still have cassetts from the 80's :)

  • In my opinion- THE BEST quality cassettes out there! All of the tapes I used and recorded on in the 70's and 80's have held up very well and still sound awesome! There were a lot of imitators (Memorex), but they all were inferior!

  • Milhouse + BoneStorm

  • THRILLHO

  • @shadelrk His name is Thrillhouse ^^

  • @shadelrk THRILLHO

  • Always wondered where this joke came from that it gets parodied so much

  • when as a still image rather than as above-tv,bauhaus guy, blowing, all stopped in time..it looks mega.the ad can never top it as a still.

  • Man, im only 15 and i know that old commercials will always be the best. The old ones are always so epic, but today's ads are boring or stupid.....sad...

  • i kno. this is a great idea for a commercial. today they're just stupid

  • Love this commercial, remember it from when i was a kid - DOES ANYONE KNOW THE NAME OF THE MUSIC TRACK USED IN IT?

  • "Ride of the Valkyries" by Richard Wagner

You may also remember it from the famous helicopter scene in "Apocalypse Now"

  • After a while, the Walkyrie, in the operatic form manifested as 9 chicks weighing more than a ton [no joke] sing together. If the hair on the back of your neck does not stand up straight, you're missing half the experience.

  • Classic ad - I remember this from when I was a young kid. Always riveting.

  • what year is this from?

  • Sometime between 1983 and 1986 - I can remember seeing this in 1985-1986 - though I was 3-4 years old, but it always stood out.

  • I also remember this ad very well... I was the same age and used to love the commercial. Strangely, a few years later it seemed that my tape deck liked to chew up Maxells.

  • Funny, I bought Maxell because of this ad!!!

  • Actually this ad dates all the way back to 1979 (the voice over has a distinct 70's sound to it) but it was used well into the 80's.

  • Ok, slightly before my time, but obviously a classic that never went away - I didn't realize it was from the '70s - thanks for the info!!! :-)

  • oh, ok thanks

  • he was a model before he was a goth rocker?? i thought he worked at a printing company. he said in an interview this was when he was with Bauhaus in the early eighties. the interview was with nardwaur or something its on youtube.

  • I remember this commerical

  • This was on the Family Guy!!

  • Supposedly the guy is actually Peter Murphy, vocalist from the band Bauhaus. He was a model before/while he became a goth rocker? I remember MTV having only a few sponsors during their first few years, and this was one of the 2-3 regular ads.

(virtually commercial free video channel) Miss it.

  • im luke sandbank my grandfather, henry sandbank, directed this ad

  • PS. GO HENRY SANDBANK! Greatest ad ever!

  • i've had a massive picture of this in my music studio for a couple of years and i only just found out where it's from.

cheers to your grandpa for the inspiration

  • lol ill tell him that

i had no idea this was so famous

  • What is the song that the butler puts in the casette player?

  • Ride of the Valkyries

  • *The song is* 'Ride of the Valkyries'

  • Thank You so much!!

  • The moment my hair grows back to a decent length, I'm totally getting my picture taken in that same pose.

  • No. You aren't.

  • So totally am. If I get an 8bit tie, I will also wear that.

  • bridge commercial was pioneer I think

  • Family Guy did a spoof of this.

  • 4x10 Model Misbehaviour

  • CLASSIC!! Thanks!

  • too cool. does anyone have the commercial with the car on a swinging bridge where it zooms in on the driver and he turns down his car stereo? i think it was panasonic...

  • That was a Pioneer commercial from their "Art of Sound" campaign.

  • That's hell of tight!

  • There's a spoof of this ad in the movie "Stay Tuned". It was for "Max Hell" tapes, and the guy in the chair gets his head ripped off in the wind created by the speakers. Max Hell: It'll Blow You Away.

  • Cool commercial but the magazine ad was better. You could imagine whatever music you wanted.

  • i seem to remember this was from 1979 (although I don't remember seeing it when it came out, I was only 5. LOL) This is the first place I remember hearing "Ride of the Valkyries" and the thing I think about, when I think about that song! LOL

  • I remember this! One of the great 80's commercials that are unforgettable

  • nah, it's not a patch on the UK original - watch?v=nZUIxGJ-ykI

  • Wow awesome commercial I would have to rank this commerical in terms of how iconic it is with the 1984 Apple Superbowl commerical

  • Lol@P-Diddy's new video.

  • Maxell's "blown away guy" ad is quit possibly one of the most iconic ads ever made. :D

  • Ahahahaahah Awesome were did you find IT!

  • great joke about this ad in Family Guy...

  • great clip.

    very pretty

  • I just bought a t-shirt of this

  • where did you find it? link?
