  • well played, but try to hold/delay on the crescendos, otherwise you will not get crescendo all the way

  • most adorable upper lip I've ever seen

  • Cette interprétation est réellement fantastique... Quel régal !

  • C'est vraiment magnifique! Bravo!

  • TOCAS MUY HERMOSOCASI NO TIENES FALLAS ...HERMOSO!!!!!!!!

  • 寄せては返す・・・波のような・・・「悲愴」。

    感動的な演奏だ。

  • Amazing performance.

  • this performance is pathetique.

  • One of the best performances of this I've heard. Great job!

  • She played it better than me... :)

  • This is beautiful! Brava!!

  • @3:18 my favourite part

  • absolutely beautiful! i can't get enough of your performance

  • that's insane, she is absolutely a genius!!!

  • @pianoaya

beautiful dress where did you get it ?? (:

  • amazinggg

  • i love the pathetic sonata, i wish i could play like her haha. :)

  • How long did it take her to learn it?

  • I wonder what she is saying .

  • @Atashino1 My guess is that she's counting.

  • GOOD. BETTER PLAYER THEN DEADMAU5

  • All sensibilities and technologies of her piano performance are all wonderful.

I am praying for her activity in the future.

  • She didn't repeat the "Grave" (which some musicologists and pianists would see as the "introduction") - I believe it is not an "introduction", but to be repeated where she skipped it. One of my favourite interpretations/performances of Opus 13 nr 1 is by Freddie Kempf. But music is subjective and opinions over interpretation and even syntax will differ - that is why the language of music is Universal - for everyone to enjoy - to have and eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • BEAUTIFUL... i like her expressions in her face it shows practice... :D :D :D :D :D D :D love it so much good job Aya

  • may i ask why at the beginning she put a sponge or something in the piano????

  • would you say this or moonlight sonata 3rd movement is harder???

  • @guitar18kid

moonlight sonata altogether is easier, i find. but it is still a lovely and challenging piece of music, so by all means, learn to play it, and do your best!

  • i love this piece!! im 15 and im currently learning it so i can play it for my diploma after grade 8:) she is a brilliant pianist.. maybe when im older il be a wee bit like her.. :P but this i just fantastic!!

  • Quiero un piano!!!

  • She is wonderful and I love her

  • that piece is so intense and you played it amazing especially with the great control of dynamics. im learning this piece next now lol

  • Hehe...I'm practicing that piece now...:)

  • Good version, one of the best on youtube. lol at the counting at 3:38....

  • I like your technique. It's excellent. The only thing that needs improving is your pedal. Get your feet off the pedal when not necessary. and when you go crescendo "from piano to forte or fortissimo" you go all the way forte to fortissimo.

It's just minor things if you adhere to what I just said. you will be more than excellent. Good luck, I like your playing so much though.

  • 10 stars!!! What planet was Beethoven from ?

  • 10 stars....I can listen to Pathetique every day. If it ias not the best piece of music known to man whatis!!??

  • the grave section was nicely done and i could feel the passion in the music. can someone teach how to practice (like what to do eg more scales?) from 5:26

  • everything perfect @@ !

  • she can be my wife

  • great interpretation. i particularly liked the speed of the grave section. everyone else seems to want to take the 'grave' section and turn it into an 'amusement park'

  • great interpretation. i particularly liked the speed of the grave section. everyone else seems to want to take the 'grave' section and turn it into an 'amusement park'

    *liked*

  • I tried to listen to others pianists' performance, but I still like yours best.

  • Aya, I have heard and seen many adult men pianists play this and you make most of them seem like sister boys by comparison. Unfortunately I am one of them. Loved your dynamics, pace, everything. I agree with those who said 5 stars isn't enough. @eddissimo

  • brilliant!!!

  • god i love the dress and how she played it. <3 5 stars

  • I belive she has a word with Beethoven...

  • best performance of the pathetique on youtube

  • @immeghanlol 100% agree, I think that she is a great pianist

  • horrible gown.... THAT'S ALL...

  • @marrieter08 : Hmm... I quite liked it;, very McQueen...

  • this is flawless.. everything about it is perfect

  • Très bonne interprétation..

  • i love her dress, and her playing, and her style of playing, and the way she interpreted the song. FANTASTIC.

  • Oh!My birthday is on August 25th.

  • So soft... Feelings inside. Fantastic,

  • Excellent tempo!

  • Having played this before in concert, I truly understand the difficulty of this piece. She plays very well and controls her dynamics very appropriately, in my opinion, to reflect the piece. She does a great job with the chromatics and handles herself very well throughout. Well executed!

  • the dress matches the song perfectly, no homo 5/5!

  • She hit the wrong notes at 3:56... but still I think she's still gorgeous and great

  • wow I love this.

  • the exposition is a bit slow for my liking, but still one of the best covers ive heard.

  • o.o woo..

  • すごい!おめでとうございます!

    この曲が大好き~

  • すごい!おめでとうございます!

    この曲が大好き~

  • this is my fav piano song

  • very good expression

  • Absolutely beautiful playing of my favorite sonata! Bravo!

  • absolutely incredible.........

  • i'm in love from now!!!

  • you really are something to watch....

  • Everything is beautiful in this video ...

    The piano

    The girl

The way she plays and ...

    the piece of course

Thanks, it deserve more than 5 stars

  • @lmn501 srry i accidentally pressed the wrong button

  • WOOAAAa 5stars!! youre amazing!! best ever!

  • Hermosa interpretacion. Saludos desde argentina.

  • Simply Stunning. Her feel and presentation are superb. Her parents must be incredibly proud of her. I believe she is only nineteen here. What a magnificent player she is,...... BRAVO!! BRAVO!!!!

  • WOW WEEEE! This is much more than cool. This is awesome! The best of the best of all girls! BRIALLIANT! Wish I have this talent. Woe is me after hearing and watching this. A gazillion stars.

  • Beautiful dress! Excellent work!

  • A-MAZING!!!

  • this is probably the best thing i've heard in a while

  • I'm convinced that she is a GENIUS! This piece is SO difficult because the part that is allegro aren't all single notes. I'm working on the first part - easy! But the rest of it? Not so much.

BRAVA!! Give this young lady a standing O!!! She deserves more than merely five stars, favored, and subbed. lol

    EXCELLENT performance!

  • Miss Nagatomi, this is by far and away the best interpretation I've heard of what I consider to be Beethoven's most beautiful sonata movement. You have elegant phrasing and precise fingering, along with all the musicality required to interpret Beethoven's musical intentions. I hope you're planning to tour outside Japan!

  • @IllIIllIIIlIIIlI Exactly. Why does she stop the rating? I mean, it's really cool and she could get at least 4.5 (old rating system)

  • @IllIIllIIIlIIIlI Playing the Grave section correctly isnt easy. This piece is relatively easy though

  • i think all her interpretations are very pleasant to listen to. I never find anything wrong with any of her performances. she's a great pianist

  • Great performance! If I may, I would suggest that you use less pedal - especially in the agitato section just after the beginning of the exposition and in the staccato sections from about mm. 35-50, and again at the beginning of the development. I think that, at these points in particular, Beethoven was trying to create a sense of uneasiness. In my opinion, playing these sections legato takes away from the feel of the piece as a whole (if that makes sense). Other than that, great interpretation!

  • that was probably one of the best things i've ever listened to =)

i really need to learn to play this lol

  • Thank you this is the best interpretation here :)

  • Those mordents are just excellent!

  • Great performance.Very good

    Congratulation

    Gilvan(Brasil)

  • amazing! great performance! love the piece!

  • i love you. you are so sexy and you touch like a princess. take a look to my videos.

  • i love playing this song! it's like a painting filled with emotions! all kinds! but instead of colours, beethoven used music notes! i love it

  • i really wish that beethoven is still alive to hear her play!

  • you meant to hear HIM play!!

  • lol, hopefully before he lost his hearing.

  • He's deaf so he can't hear anyways :(

  • Holy cow. Bravo....best interpretation ever....!!!!!

  • why is it called pathetique? the word "pathetique" sound like "pathetic" and this piece is wonderful!

  • "Path" is the Greek root for feeling/suffering (like in the words sympathy, antipathy, apathetic, telepathy, etc.).

And of course, Mozart was trying to convey suffering and emotion in this piece. :)

  • Great response.

    ...except that Mozart ≠ Beethoven.

  • You mean Beethoven...

  • Mozart? You mean Beethoven.

  • good explanation, however the piece is by Beethoven.

  • Epic fail. Mozart did not write this piece.

  • pathetique is the french word for "emotionally moving"

  • And of course Mozart is not Beethoven, as some might say it, and the greek word is Pathos, not path (as the same ones might think) :)

However, even in english the archaic meaning of the word was related to emotions, emphasis, affectation.

  • Thats what Pathetique means in I believe french. Although Im not sure.

  • in french it means; emotional, full of expression,

  • great job!

  • Solid skill, good presentation! I like it very much!

  • Pathetique is indeed a masterpeace, and this version is not an exception.

It is on of the most beautiful piano plays ever written.

    Very very talented player.

  • Pretty amazing, i envy your talent. Never stop playing music even if in doubt. I love your music videos, they are so cool.

  • her right hand cant seem to move fast enough

  • The left hand octaves are amazing.

  • Awesome!

  • HKTerry2005

    ...

get out.... she played it fine

there is no need to play it any faster than it is right now and its not that she can't play it at "the right tempo" is she chooses not to

  • I like it when they play super fast thigns slower, lets me actually listen to the music.

  • Simply beautiful. I always watch your videos whenever I need inspiration for playing piano. (:

  • wha'ts with her posture? o_O

  • have you ever seen Glenn Gould play? talk about postures XD

  • Jeeeee! am i the only 1 to think thats just technical? ive always played it less fast, just a bit, but then u can express smthg. here is just the succession of what is written. no interest. work on it and youll be able to play like that. still remarkable in terms of speed and all but... well, boring. the difference btw concertist and musicians

  • loll her face

    and yeah her posture

    but her playing

    dear god

ill never be able to play like that...

everyone wish me good luck on this song :D

  • hey, welcome to carnaval day... anyway nice technic, technically impressive, terrific technical playing... zzzzz.......

  • yea i wish you luck.. umm. and its called a piece not a song

  • good luck =)

  • ma sempre vestite da bomboniere

  • why are you critiquing a musical performance as old as this one... does it serve a purpose putting input on a performance nearly a year after the fact honestly O.o its probally been fixed 6 months before you even saw the video

  • That's a lie and you know it.

  • Amazing!! Wonderful performance*****

  • She is inspiring!!!!!

  • ah, it's just so pleasing to the ears...

  • If music has a definition, this is it.

  • Love this from around 6:22 especially but overall pretty fantastic!

  • Mourning clothes.

  • anyone who plays at this level.

how hard it it to memorized 9 min + music? how long does it take?

  • i dunno about others, but personally i dont intentionally memorise my music, it just occurs naturally after much practise... i'm currently learning la campanella and i've already memorised half of it but i cant even play the whole thing up to speed yet.

  • I had problems with this piece... I just couldn't get it memorized. =( Even though it's one of my favorite piano pieces.

Most of the time by the time I get the piece ready to perform/whatever, it's pretty much memorized already.

  • lol..I had problem memorizing this first movement too!!

  • same for me -- i.e. I memorize music easily -- although as a consequence my sightreading is bad...even for really simple pieces i have to stare at the notes before i play them.

  • depends on the person, i memorize things pretty easily but other people can have an extremely tough time even though they can play it well with sheet music

  • that's me. i can't memorize a piece of music if my life depended on it.

  • You are Amazing!

  • Simply... great

i'm currently working on that piece too and this vid sure helped me get the feel of the piece so thanks a lot.

Magnificent player, magnificent piece (hell, beethov ftw) so well... Magnificent vid.

  • I've played this song too. Looks like we have similar tastes.. maybe i'll post a video of me playing this song as soon as I rememorize it. I love your interpetation.

  • magnifique!!!!

  • I love your playing !

  • I love her technique. although I can't say much about her posture. Man, that's what you get from playing too much. But I love her anyway.

  • I feel weird while listening and after listening. And I don't know why.

  • take some serequel

  • You are an idiot to think that she has time to read your advice(yes, that's how you spell advice). When you get to her level, you can talk. Otherwise, keep you "advise" to yourself... scrub.

  • Specialist in what exactly?

  • great song . i love you

  • that lady is hot

  • You are actually both right and wrong. The score doesn't say, in as much as to if you should even repeat after the first grave.

Aye has improved a lot since her old videos from when she was 19. That i think we can all agree.

    Cheers from NYC!

  • flawless

  • finally a good one -___- I've been looking all over youtube :O

  • You should rather take a look at Freddy Kempf here. He has more experience in that piece than her.

  • yeah

  • Kempf is the best interpretation I've found via web. Incredible.

  • Freddy Kempf doesn´t know how to play this piece, can´t even get the start right

  • gevantassa, that's a matter of opinon. I LOVE the way he plays this piece also. In fact, I love the way he plays EVERYthing. Probably because he's my absolute favorite male pianist. He's so passionate. I love it.

    We can agree to disagree.

    ;)

  • haha Anyone capable of reading sheet music and listening can make such a obersvation.

  • You are just fantastic!

  • this piece brings back memories!! :)

  • I prefer your development and recapitulation and even is my farvorite after hearing the Perahia in the Immortal Beloved. But it is so a pity he never record the mov.1 It is my favorite all the time. His secondo is as powerful as yours I love it!
