Following the steps I successfully upgraded to 2 GB, hopefully adding some longevity to my wee little mini. If the performance is no better, well I'm only out $30.
I had a problem with the first power up. No Dell splash screen only continual beeps. So I reversed the steps checking all the connections and found the new memory stick was not completly seated (one side was not clicked in). After securing it, backtracked my way out, and she booted up. Yay!
A fantastic tutorialfor this machine. What needs o pointed out is the fact that the WLAN card area of the MB needs to be slotted under plastic post to fit or there will be a buldge in the MB
I used to have a wind u100, and replacing ram took 10 mins, and was very easy. i just got the 10v and replacing the ram on that will take literally 5-10 times longer. the 10v is a better computer though. get the 10v
@omalbari Replacing Components in the MSi Wind is bloddy easy. You just have to remove 9 screws on the bottom, remove the back and you can access everything from the ram slot, hard disk, WiFi Card etc.
Thank you. Great video. You've probably saved me from breaking my 10v cos I've decided its too fiddly for me! I'll live with the 1gb ram til I'm more confident messing with the bowls of computers!
because then they couldn't force you to buy the more expensive upgrade at purchase or by sending it in to them. it is most unfortunate but standard practice
Considering how bloody difficult it is to do the upgrade (well, easy for me now), yeah, I'm inclined to agree. Especially considering it would be so easy to have put an access hatch right there.
@ DevaJones03 - that is true & I also have 2GB. Maybe I should of worded it better. MS will not allow a netbook to have more than 1GB leaving the manufacturer, in other words Dell were not allowed to..if they want to sell their netbook with XP.

Dude, get yourself a static strap, a spudge stick, and ice cube tray. Geesh. Oh wait, I'm dell certified and I approve this message. (Dell didn't put 2Gig Ram in for cost...not everyone needs 2gigs...except us hackintoshers)
Definitaly a PITA. But, IMHO, it was worth it. Would be nice if they made it easier, but I digress.. Probably designed like that to keep Microsoft happy.
i think it's like that so you would either have to send it back to dell for upgrade or pay a computer shop to do it...so really its to make you pay more money in the long run.
the title says upgade not upgrade

The older model was easier to upgrade, or they could have put a back door to the ram like the mini 9.

Is there any way to replace the ram much more simple? what you are doing is impossible for me
omalbari 2 years ago
thats exlactly what dell wants

so, replacing the MSI wind will be much simpler, right?

why couldn't dell just put a door to access the ram from bottom of the netbook?

Because that would be too easy.

I wanna say 200, but I don't remember for sure. What I had pulled out of mine stock was a stick of PC2-6400, so whatever that is.

Can a faster processor be put in the 10v ?
S80RDR 2 years ago
Theoretically, yes. In reality, no. The reason being is that the CPU is soldered onto the motherboard.

Is it worth all this? I'd be lying if I said I'm a bit apprehensive about dismantling my entire laptop. :/

Microsoft have a stipulation for XP on netbooks - no more than 1GB of ram or else! - typical

wow that a long process, maybe there's a reason why they didn't make the ram upgrable, or at least not easily accessible
