Red Arrows are fine pilots, no dispute. But the problem is, they fly small, subsonic, quiet, cute, trainer aircraft. This is the only reason they, and all teams that fly substandard demonstration aircraft, will be considered second best to the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels.

As I said, their airmanship is not in question. But a very big part of the enjoyment of an airshow is the noise. One F-16 executing a split S takeoff maneuver makes far more noise than the entire Red Arrows formation.

The is the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2007 and it took place in fairford on a us military base. It is the largest air display in europe. The display team are the Royal Air Force Red Arrows.
