Incredibly, at the age of 17 he went into the new Birdland with a string orchestra and recreated "Bird with Strings," the recording Charlie Parker was most proud of. A 17-year-old Sicilian recreating the work of one of America's greatest musical geniuses (remember, he was co-inventing an indigenous American art form). Then he recorded an album with a top New York City rhythm section (David Hazeltine on piano). It wasn't even released in the U.S. Indeed, we've come a long way--down.
