  • @TheKatiegrim Thank you!

  • Major props for attempting this stuff, and putting it on youtube. You sir have got balls of steel.

  • @minameise Thank you! /joel lessing

  • I have to admit, at first I was like WTF!!! But, dude, I have to give you BIG props for doing this. I KNOW it's hard work. Best to you!

  • @Milpower Thanks! I'm an exercise junkie, actually. Love bike riding in the summer (30 mile rides!) a little bit of weight machines, and treadmilling. I just got some of the weight bands and use them on the pole for upper body and shoulder strengthening. Next week, I am trying out an aerial arts class for old folks, lol! (silks, rope, etc....)

  • You're super. I'm always getting frustrated because I can't improve as fast as I'd like to, but your videos remind me how important it is to be patient. Thanks so much!

  • @chumpchkin Thank You...lol, don't worry...I move at a slow pace...partly due to age...and just being busy with work and family. I try to keep it fun and low pressure...I'm not really interested in competing, so it is mainly for exercise and socializing.../Joel Lessing

  • oh sorry me and mie cousin are sharin a youtube account cuz she too young to have one.she must have commented your dance.sorry bout daht.ive learned mie lesson

  • @scarlet2589 Thank You, Scarlet...that's no problem!

  • dhat is pretty disturbing

  • @scarlet2589 Thanks for watching Scarlet. I am sorry you found the video disturbing! /Joel Lessing

  • I thought it was kinda creepy at first, and then slapped myself for being close-minded (totally not me at all) And was like hey!! This is pretty cool!! More power to you! Also, the grip thing, try pow'r tac. Its amazing. I sometimes use it when im working on new things. You can get it at any sporting store, in the softball isle. Just spray it right on the pole. Also, nothing a little rubbing alcohol wont fix=]

  • @caseyhardt Thank You! I hadn't heard of power tac...I will look for it. I'll miss the pole convention in DC next week, but I heard that all of the grip product manufacturers will have a table set-up. I do use rubbing alcohol sometimes. A few months ago, I got to travel to a jam in Minnesota....the studio there had real Brass. It was amazingly grippy. I should probably just spend the cash and get a real Brass pole!

  • ur wife should be proud of you.... u r so open-minded about all this!

  • @babytonic Thank you!

  • @kwalker1987 I've heard about the hairspray trick...I'm going to try that one. Laurie used to work for Demert and Dougherty---the company that makes spray cans for cosmetics (and "HEET") and we still have some industrial sized cans of Clairol Hair Spry in the linene closert!

  • Thank you! I am very excited, I just ordered the Xpole. I cant wait. :) Do you have a facebook? I would love to be friends. :) HA HA big firemen even got there butts kick. I love it, its not about stripping anymore. People need to start seeing it different. :) I will post videos once i learn how to. he he. Im not all that great yet but I am determined to do it.

  • I love that you pole dance. I give you props. My boyfriend wasnt sure when I started. Thought I just wanted to be a stripper. Until he tried it. Its hard work. You are doing amazing. Keep up the good work. :)

  • Thanks, Jorshi! Some of the ladies on Facebook were talking about an exhibition they did for a charity fundraiser at a police and fire event when some of the firemen came over and were convinced they could do all of the moves the dancers were doing. Actually, one or two of the men did manage a decent flag move and a handstand...but most of them had a hard time with most of the moves. It is harder than it looks. Congratulations on taking up pole!

  • Hey I love your videos! its great to see guys enjoying pole and getting really good (like you) despite the crap you must get from some people about it :)

  • Thank You! It has been a fun adventure...I get a little flack now and then from my You-Tube videos, but not too much. The on-line poling community is a really great bunch of people. After a while, you get to know almost everybody who poles on line and mostly they watch each other's videos and post tips and tutorials. I actually expected more negative comment than I got. I think in 2 years I have maybe deleted ONE comment. And I think he was just a crazy person, lol!

  • Wow! I don't know many men that would even TRY pole dancing! Hats off to you! (:

  • Thank You!

  • I love love love your videos.

  • Thank You, Onie3!!!

  • You ARE awesome! Not many men would even try!... I know mine won't.

  • Thank You!

  • Awesome!

  • Thank You!

  • hey, i think you are brilliant!! i am currently learning how to pole and ur an inspiration, ignore all those haters...i think ur great and much braver than me to put ur effort on here to help others :) keep it up! x

  • Thank You, Katie!

  • Haha, Love ur dedication man! Do what you love, no matter what anyone says! Keep on rockin that pole!

Freshness from the funk Prhyme Minister

  • Thank You!

  • You're a powerhouse. Do you reply to every comment?

  • Thank You! Well, I might be a powerhouse of idle keyboard chatter and forum comments, LOL! But I'm not that good on the pole! Yes, I do try to answer every comment...just because I really appreciate the time people spend watching the videos and I want them to know I am really grateful for the encouragement and help they offer. Thanks for watching!

  • Isn't pole dance just the most wonderful workout for your body ever? You make me want to go dance on my pole now, only i'm a little too sick for that kind of exertion right now. - what're you using for crash mats at the bottom there?

  • Oh...back then I was just piling up old bathroom rugs and towels. But I have since bought three regular black gym mats. They are kind of pricey, but at my near 200 pound weight a fall would probably be pretty bad, LOL! The basement floor is solid concrete. Yes, poling has definitely been great for my upper body. People who haven't seen me in a long time notice the difference, so I guess it has changed my physique quite a bit! I hope that you are feeling better soon and can get back to the pole.

  • holy shit. its an old man

  • LOL! Well, 48...(actually 47 when this clip was filmed)...middle aged, maybe--certainly not old. My mom is 80 and still kicking. Now 80, that's old! I think it's just the bald head that fools everybody. THanks for watching!

  • Could your next vid show us what's behind the hanging sheets?

  • Actually, all that stuff is on an old video. I actually made a video of the day I cleaned up the room. It's on the channel and its called ADD 10 INCHES...to YOUR PRACTICE SPACE. But I'll save you the trouble, LOL: My daughter's old changing table, several boxes of giant Leggo's, some children's dolls, a few radio control race cars, the gas meter, and the water meter. No torture chamber, I 'm afraid...

  • The only thing funnier than the fact you do this is that you put it on the internet.

  • Thanks for watching and enjoying my video! Yes, I 'm sure that part of the appeal of my pole dancing vids is my graceless galumphing about the pole, quite breathless and clumsy. But It's a great workout. I've made wonderful friends in the on-line poling community, and I've upped my weight lifting press-up another 40 pounds on the bench. Recently I added another "P" to the 3 P's of Poling: PAIN, PRACTICE, PATIENCE--and PRESEVE A SENSE OF HUMOUR, LOL!

  • "...online poling community..."

    Bring your own moist towelettes!

  • Hunh? I didn't understand your comment. But thanks for watching and enjoying the video! But while we're onthe topic, I will say I am a big fan of Wipes! In fact, I just got some Armour-All wipes that clean the tires on your car. And now they have another brand that puts a moisture proof barrier on your windshield that repels rainwater. What will they think of next?

  • It's funny but realy kool that you are taking this excersise on!!!!On your reverse hook kick spin try bending both knees and landing on your knees to start:)

  • Thanks! I'm looking to start spin practices again with the new pole width eventually!

  • I think I need to steal some of your determination, Joel!

  • Thanks! I've gotten a little off focus in the last few days--I'm going through a round of dental surgery--yuck!!!. But I recently bough Jamilla's DVD, and I am going through her program. I'm trying to set up a TV in or nearer to the pole room to watch the lessons without having to run up and down the stairs, LOL!

  • Don't forget to dance a little in between the spins and pole tricks ;-)

  • Ha! I've been thinking about that. Actually, I sometimes do dance on the floor to the tunes I like, but ususally end up cutting those parts out when I edit the video! I do have an idea for an actual pole "dance"--but first Ineed to learn the floor moves from Alena or Jamillas's video! Stay tuned--when I get a long weekend I may do it!

  • Wow that is some great determination there i love your vids helps me to remember not to give up. When i was learning this move (cross knee release) I was taught to hold on to the bent foot to help press into the pole move. Good luck with this one Joel x

  • That's a great idea! I never thought of doing that--and I do have a real problem getting enough "squeeze" in the grip.I will try that tip next time. Thanks for watching!

  • looking good Joel! I admire your hard work and dedication... you're improving so quickly!!

  • Thank You!

  • you always make my day!!! ☺

  • Thank You, Verenndha!

  • I think so, eventually. I'm having some success with the weight loss--trying to lose 5lbs by Valentines day so I don't have so much belly fat to haul around on the pole! Johannah's services as a spotter don't come cheap--she's discovered this is a great way to get cash for her clothes shopping adventures, so I'm going to make sure I'm good and ready to try the move before I "hire" her as a spotter! Today I finally touched the pole with my foot while inverted in half bracket grip held 5 seconds.

  • great job joel...!! id say your close to getting a cross knee release in the future!! Cant wait to see more of your progress!!

  • good practicing and determination joel! woohoo

  • Thank You!

  • great job joel! bravo on the fan kicks hon! i can easilly 'visually' see the difference between the old & new poles, thats pretty wild, how much such a small difference in width can make on a pole! u know what? i was doin a tut last night on the cross knee release, that 'lara' is bringing you RIGHT to the point there to go into that. put a pillow under ur head on a sticky pole and if you get a great grip with the legs, try & let go. up a wee higher on the pole but only when ur ready tho 2becont

  • ur so close to that move i can taste it. funny ur not even tryin for it! great mini plank. lara plank, there joely..im so very proud of your accomplishments! 5 stars from me!

  • Thanks Shel! Today (Sunday) I'm practicing half bracket kick-ups (Like a semi-handspring) and inverted half bracket kick ups (handstand on pole ). I just touched the pole up top about 5 minutes ago after 30-40 failed attempts. Now I'm just trying to hang on 5 seconds!

  • did u vid it? i learned to just go & video everything, just 'in case', at worst u dont use it is all, i hope u do, cuz that sounds awesome!! 30-40 attempts now THAT is definate dedication. dont worry, we like to see the failed attempts & then the sweet victory that eventually follows, its exciting. hang in there, youve gotten so strong! ps- i made a vid 4 fleur i gotto post & i got a nice bruise & ouchie on my upper thigh from that 1..OUCH, i feel ur pain, the bruises always look better on vid!

  • Yes it's on video. I just kept cueing up Fergie/Black Eyed Peas "Lets get it Started in Here" over and over because it's Sony Music and I wanted the music to post if I succeeded. And then all of a sudden my foot touched the ceiling and the pole "upside" and the pressure on the bracket grip was terrible and tippy, but I held on for dear life, LOL! And then, later I did it with no music just to focus and I counted to FIVE seconds hanging on like a fool, all tilted and stupid looking, but I DID IT!

  • Great job! Welcome to the bruised leg club. LOL

  • Thanks Veena. Be sure to scroll up to ALL COMMENTS and see my response to Fleur, also--about the cool jam session. Well, that bruise was kind of a disappointment! But the inverted half bracket conditioning exercise has put a nice purple blotch on my armpit. Frankly, I was getting a little worried that the ladies were working harder than me, and my excess of masculine ego wanted a "me too!" bruise. I know that's silly, must be a guy thing. My wife calls that the "Y chromosome disease" LOL!

  • Good work Joel! Keep at it, it will get easier the more you do it and perfect it!! =)

  • Good job Joel!

  • Thanks, Fleur. I just finished watching you and Veena together. Sorry I didn't pay such close attention to the technical stuff because Laurie was down here on the couch in the basement and we were chatting about the two of you as we watched. And I think that was a real breakthrough moment because here were just two good friends, children, their toys, and a pole in the family room and it was normal and wholesome and I'm glad my wife saw that side of it. Imagine that!--Veena is your neighbor!

  • You are doing so well...I kept watching this thinking "just let go you'll be okay!" and you did yay!!!!!

  • Thanks, Glitterhips! I'm a little lacking in the courage department, that's why it seems to take me forever to get any move done!

  • wow look at you go! :)

  • Thanks Krizb85. I enjoyed your last video and I hoped that you and your friend finally got to spend some time together over the Holidays! That was one of the most romantic pole perfromances I had ever seen--a pole dance for the heart that waits! Thanks for watching and enjoying the video!

  • great job!

  • Thank You! I see you've got a pole video up which I had the opportunity to see the other day--now that I know you by your other screen name. I always try to keep up with fellow "Veena" polers who are on You-Tube...

  • i love this video joel, at 3:32 i said "yes" outloud and my son said, whats the matter mum and i told him you did the lara, he is all confused now !! one tip.... try doing it as a cross ankle rather than crosss knee, because i think you may be able to get your top hand lower and therefore lay yourself back straighter ? 5:39 was a cross knee release, your doing so so well, really proud of you xx

  • I had that footage in the computer since around Christmas and wanted to get it up on You-Tube, so you would finally know I got the move. But Ithink I forgot to do the hand wave! Anayway, I se you are making great progress because I see in the inbox there's a leg switch combo video from you. You are really moving along!

  • Well done i love how you show yor progress it show newbies that hard work pays off:)

  • Thank You! I appreciate the psotive feedback and everyone who watches the videos and comments. I'm not sure if I'm good enough to inspire anyone else, but it is true that the practice pays off. Sometimes it just seems very slow--but I think that's just partly my age, LOL!

  • Congrats on your "Lara" I love your reaction when you did it. That crossed knee and crossed ankle I didn't think I'd ever get. I hurt everytime. It really does get better promise. I see you also got your fan kick. Good for you! The collapse at the end was funny. I think we've all been there a time or two. Keep up the good work.

  • Thank You! I don't know why there is so much pressure on the pelvis and hip when the knee is up like that. Nothing about this move is the least bit hard on an incline bench. I can hold a mid sit-up pose (with a dumbell) for at least ten seconds and it'a a piece of cake. Then, suddenly, on the pole it is impossible. My theory is that you are using lots of energy to stabilze the body on the pole and it makes eerything harder.
