I try to do as much good for as many people as I can in that time. In 6hrs I can make one video if I hurry but that leaves no time for answering emails - sorry :(
Scooby Does pull ups works pecs ? . i got a good time friend doing pull ups on his free time everyday . no he doesn't do push up . But, how come his chest is so big and he can even move it ? .
This looks great! I have been looking for a way of working my quads at home and I have been thinking of having a squat rack made but after seeing this I will give this a try first. Looks simpler. I tried dumbbell squats before but found it hard to balance. The skateboard should take care of that. Great idea Scooby.
I am very impressed with your training tips. I have been training 30 years I am 50 years old so there are few tricks I have not seen. I like to think I know what I'm doing Im 5'10" 249 7% body fat, yes done with a 9 point Lange caliper. You provide a simple, safe yet effective way to train. The youngsters are fortunate to have your input to avoid bad training habits and get the most from their workouts. Please keep up the good work your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Listen dude there isn't max or minimal weight... If you are starter do with small weights but as time goes push yourself to limit. That is what i do and i have great results!

I can't understand how stuff that can be found in eggs, chocolate etc. can cause cancer when they are in a protein powder. But still since we all have just one life I decided not to risk.
He also claimed that if I drink and stop drinking protein powder all muscle is going to tun in fat immediately.
hey scooby impresive video!....do but do you have to consume protein powder in order to gain muscle mass? or can you workout without taking protein powder? is there a a difference?
Hey scoob, I've been training properly for 4 months now and i've noticed improvements in most areas other than my biceps. I'm really struggling to make any progress. Any advice you could offer?
My advice is patience. In four months you cant reasonably expect to see any results, it takes a few years before you can see results in a mirror. You will get stronger every workout though and mass eventually follows strength so hang in there.
you said it takes a few years to see results in the mirror and on your web site you said you gain about 5 pounds of muscle a year. some of the books you recomend on your website say you can gain a pound of muscle a week and body for life has some pretty big changes if you look at the pictures. also ive noticed ppl who are african american at my school that work out make some reallly fast gains
When I say that the max most people can gain is 5lbs muscle in a year, I am referring to mature adults not people under 22. If you are under 22 you are going to be gaining lots of weight every year if you work out or not as part of the normal growth to adult size.
love that you are comming up with new ideas to keep the workouts interesting for home bodybuilders!! this is a farout idea and ive tryed it and it actually gave me a burn. allso ya might wanna add jumping squats with dumbells they kill and really work well. i,m no pro but i do turn heads at a beach thnx to some of your advice as well as others... p.s haters he is just giving advice and solutions to those who may not be able to afford a gym membership but still want to build!!!!
this guy is an idiot and spreads some bad misinformation. the next person that says dont go below parrallel or dont let your knees pass your toes should be fuckin shot. how do olympic lifters lift huge numbers for years? how does all of asia not need reconstructive knee surgery? fuckin retard.
People who use bad spelling while criticizing others should be shot. He's trying to explain how to do squats at home WITHOUT a spotter for an effective workout. Also, since he's a bodybuilder he is focused on maximizing muscle hypertrophy so form is extremely important. Powerlifters use spotters and just want to get stronger at pushing weight up.
squibbae: You're going to need a lot of bullets :) I think rudeness is worse than bad spelling. If someone can disagree respectfully, I don't much care how they spell. The trouble is a lot of people don't seem to be able to do that.
fatcat669: Scooby's videos are aimed at the general population wanting to get bigger/stronger, and at bodybuilders training for mass. For the general population squats below parallel are not recommended because of the large compressive forces created within the knee, and it is also not necessary to go below this point to gain mass. For athletes who need to go below this point, it is recommended to have an experienced trainer to supervise learning correct technique to minimise risk. Continued...

Anyway, Scooby welcomes discussion and different opinions, but this should be done respectfully. Ok, I just realised I contradicted myself and revealed my own ignorance, but the point I am trying to make is that there are different opinions, and it is not necessarily a black and white case.
RedNeckJiuJitsu, great suggestion for those who want to do squats at home - wish I thought of that. If I do a squats video, can I use your idea? For those who missed his post, he suggested using sawhorses for a "squat cage"
What I did to do squats while I was home recently and didn't have a rack was power clean the weight, jerk it overhead, set it down behind my head on my traps, do my squats, and then reverse the startin' process to get the bar to the ground.
Hey Scooby I know this isn't the right video please forgive me, but I've been trying your alternating grip pull ups. I really like them and I'm finally getting sore again after my back work outs, but one question. You said that the lat on the underhand grip hand should bear the brunt of the load, but when I do the pull us I feel the workout on the opposite lat. I've made sure to center under the underhand arm like you said, is this normal?
Man, I really work hard on my legs and I'm unable to walk easy even after two days after my leg workout. Must tell you, I suffer from the chicken leg syndrome.
you're absolutley right about form, plus the fact that having the legs in an angle >90 degrees will not only negativly effect your preformance, it will also hurt your muscular attatchments and joints. out of an orthopedic prespective, you are very bright!
Many have asked if the grit surface of the skateboard is uncomfortable, not really. Bodybuilding is not a sport of comfort anyway, its about controlled pain for measured gain. A little skin discomfort while doing quads with lots of weight is the least of my concerns :)
Hey Urbain77, I would love to see any studies about joint stress and range of motion on squats. Apparently you have seen some that I have never heard of. Please let me know where I can find them.
wow, this is reallllyyy good idea. You are sure a hell of an engineer to come up with something so easy, but at the same time effective. Sometimes I feel stupid that I haven't come up with something so basic.
Watching these vids gets me motivated. I dont feel intimidated, ya get the feeling that yeah, I can do that. I've been traing on and off for about 6 years now.
scooby, can you give me an estimate time for me to get in shape like you. I am an average lil skinny guy.... Do you think a year work out long will make it? I work out every weekday after work. Please respond, i love your videos!
i reckon scooby's been trainin for easy ten years. a year wont make much difference but it will make some. plus you'll feel be stronger, healthier and will feel better about yourself. dont worry that it will take longer than a year - ultimately this will be something you can do forever and will give you stronger bones, faster metabolism, more confidence etc - loads of benefits but bodybuildings like very very slowly walking a marathon.
it takes forever but you're in it for the distance. gains come slowly but the years go by quick so dont be a pussy like everyone else. man up, get yer arse down the gym an start lifting. good luck!

i am 19 years old and i am using creatine for like 2 weeks. Can you get impotent of using creatine , if you take your pauses and dont exceed the recommended dosis ?
Thanks for the ratings and favorites everybody! I appreciate it. I'm on a business trip the next four days and wont be able to answer questions. Please be nice to each other in my absence, no name calling :)
I only rarely delete comments, maybe twice a year. Its only when a comment is hate speech or not suitable for minors that I delete it. Many people do not realize that only the last 10 comments show up, you have to click at the link at the bottom "View All XXX Comments" and wait 30s to view ALL the comments. You can then do a CTL-F to do a search and find your username in the list of comments. Just a reminder too people, please be respectful of each other - NO NAME CALLING!
I STILL haven't been able to watch this yet- my computer is being very uncooperative lately when it comes to playing youtube videos :( The utterly weird thing is, the Audio Preview thing worked for the first time... I sound so different in text! :)
good reason to workout your legs is also that when you work out legs hard, because they're such a big group of muscles, a 'lot' of testosteron will be released to fix the damage to the two musclefibers myosine and actine in the legs. Your upper body will also profit from this release.
Fantastic video Scooby! I have been looking at body building stuff on the internet for many years now, heaps of sites etc etc. Hands down you are head and shoulders above the rest - the best out there by far. I have got more out of your website and videos than anywhere else combined. Keep up the great work mate!
Oh and if you want to see chicken legs - do a search of "red stripe beer legs" on youtube LOL!!!
Wow - *excellent* idea there Scooby: fantastically simple and *safe*!
Seems similar to the squats my Personal Trainer had me do after a hernia op - using a pilates ball between my back and the wall in a similar way to how you're using the scate-board.
Keep up the stunning work (not least the inspiration you give to us "older" guys to keep working and looking great even post 4 decades ;) )
that's a shame scooby, we'll all miss you. I have pretty big legs genetically, so i never had to worry about chicken legs, but a guy in my sports performance class is so top heavy that he makes jokes about walking with tree trunks. I was just wondering scoob' since you don't really recommend neck exercises i was wondering what would be the best way to work myforearms, i have about average biceps and arms but i have pretty girly wrists, my grandad didnt have wrists, it was hand to elbow just flat
Awesome video. I got into lifting around this time last year, I also fell into the trend of working out my upper body far more than my lower body, been forcing myself to work my legs two days out of the week for awhile now, trying to turn it into a habit.
SCOOBY fantastic video really have to admit your videos are great. You remind me of the A-Team when they would get locked into a shed and end up making a state of the art vechile etc to escape lol You come up with some great home workout exercise! Keep up the good work!
I see a lot of dudes with impressive upper boddies, yet their legs look like cartoon caracter stick legs!! They look so ridiculously uneven. But I don't blame em! Legs are extremely tough and painful to train...but NO PAIN NO GAIN!!! Gotta do em ppl!
I have lots of knee pain even in normal activity. One thing that works for me is to go veeeeerryy slowly. I find that when my knees are flaring up, if I move slowly (5s up 5s down) I can make it thru the whole range of motion without any pain.
Great video! I've done this with a swiss ball as well. Once nice thing is you can hold dumbbells while you're doing this, then drop them at failure and keep going.
Hey basementbrb, powerlifting movements are great when learned with the help of a really good coach but for people working out at home they are much more likely to injure themselves than make themselves stronger.
some idiots gunna take this dumb method and end up on there ass...dont watch this crap join a gym altleast you can oggle the sexy women then hahaha bet you cant do that at home.
hey scooby, i am 15 and lift wieghts with a series oof excercises you provide on youtube, i do these 3 days a week including abdonimal, arms and pecs. would you recommend i continue these excercises at the age of 15, how many times should i workout per week and is there anymore advice with you personal experience with wieght training.
Hey Helliver, I'm sure the neighbors think I'm some kind of wacko. When I lift, I push myself really hard and even when I try really hard to be quiet I make quite a bit of noise. I can only imagine what they think is going on over here. :)
Hey scooby, I have been watching quite a few of your video's and they really are helping. I do have some questions involving workouts for a guy with a shorter arm. (I am not disabled, just had a cist in my right arm)... Could you possibly send me a message or add me as a friend so I can get some specific answers. That would be great!
-Techno ... (i'm not geeky, I am just impressed with technology0 :)
For people with hand/wrist/forearm problems, you have to get creative. Hanging ab straps can be used to exercise lats (see my website, working around injuries). If your arm is fine but your hand incapable of gripping a dumbbell, you need to fashion a strap that can keep it "tied" onto your hand(or the end of your forearm if your hand is missing) without cutting off circulation or causing other damage. Once the dumbbell is tied on there you can do all exercises normally.
My arm is FULLY fuctionable... its just the upper half of it stopped growing. Say I hanged with both hands from a bar. You would notice my right shoulder would be more elevated them my left. Yeah my wrists are cool and everything. :) lol thanks
U do always come up with some great training that every can do at home ... I have almost all my students watch your show now ! ... great show, thanks :o)
Very important point here people! Please listen to this and save hundreds of your hard earned dollars. BELIEVE NOTHING YOU SEE! There are tens of thousands of products out there promising "Gain 20lbs muscle in 8weeks, guaranteed" and they have tons of before-after photos of "satisfied customers" prooving how great their sh*t is. DONT FALL FOR IT! These people have no shame, they will do anything to get your money - including altering before-after photographs.
I have big ass legs too, cluxh12. Cardio won't make your legs skinnier, as I should know. That is just genetics and you are going to have to be forced to live with it. Theres chicken legs wich are too skinny, and then thunder thighs and legs which are too fat, even with muscle, my legs are out of portion with the rest of my body. I weigh 170 pounds and my legs are the size of someone who weighs that of 250+. So yeah, just get used to it.

Get 2 sawhorses and do bottom starting squats.
Build a squat rack or power cage.
RedNeckJiuJitsu 3 years ago
RedNeckJiuJitsu, great suggestion for those who want to do squats at home - wish I thought of that. If I do a squats video, can I use your idea? For those who missed his post, he suggested using sawhorses for a "squat cage"
scooby1961 3 years ago
Had to hunt to find this... No, I don't care. In fact, I think it'd be great if you would.
RedNeckJiuJitsu 3 years ago
I didn't come up with the idea, anyways.
What I did to do squats while I was home recently and didn't have a rack was power clean the weight, jerk it overhead, set it down behind my head on my traps, do my squats, and then reverse the startin' process to get the bar to the ground.
RedNeckJiuJitsu 3 years ago
that's what I also do to :)

Must tell you, I suffer from the chicken leg syndrome.

you're absolutley right about form, plus the fact that having the legs in an angle >90 degrees will not only negativly effect your preformance, it will also hurt your muscular attatchments and joints. out of an orthopedic prespective, you are very bright!

doesn't your wall get scratch marks from the skateboard?
TheGame875 3 years ago
u prob just gotta keep the skateboard in a strait motion and not move ur skateboard so it doesnt.
brownpr1d394560 3 years ago
Many have asked if the grit surface of the skateboard is uncomfortable, not really. Bodybuilding is not a sport of comfort anyway, its about controlled pain for measured gain. A little skin discomfort while doing quads with lots of weight is the least of my concerns :)

So you would Squat at parallel, instead of ATG?
I disagree with that.
It would put more strain on the knees according to a lot of studies! Please do some research about that!
urbain77 3 years ago
Hey Urbain77, I would love to see any studies about joint stress and range of motion on squats. Apparently you have seen some that I have never heard of. Please let me know where I can find them.

Yes you can, but results are always better with proper diet.

scooby, can you give me an estimate time for me to get in shape like you. I am an average lil skinny guy.... Do you think a year work out long will make it? I work out every weekday after work. Please respond, i love your videos!
tranvthuy 3 years ago
i reckon scooby's been trainin for easy ten years. a year wont make much difference but it will make some. plus you'll feel be stronger, healthier and will feel better about yourself. dont worry that it will take longer than a year - ultimately this will be something you can do forever and will give you stronger bones, faster metabolism, more confidence etc - loads of benefits but bodybuildings like very very slowly walking a marathon.
iamthereallebowski 3 years ago
it takes forever but you're in it for the distance. gains come slowly but the years go by quick so dont be a pussy like everyone else. man up, get yer arse down the gym an start lifting. good luck!

scooby i have a question.
i am 19 years old and i am using creatine for like 2 weeks. Can you get impotent of using creatine , if you take your pauses and dont exceed the recommended dosis ?
i hope you can help me
murtadha12345678910 3 years ago
Creatine is nothing but an amino acid (not hormore) found mostly in red meat. Your body also makes creatine. It will not make you impotent.

why do you delete comments? :(
basementbrb 3 years ago
Hey basementbrb,
I only rarely delete comments, maybe twice a year. Just a reminder too people, please be respectful of each other - NO NAME CALLING!
scooby1961 3 years ago
sorry, i just haven't found it.

good reason to workout your legs is also that when you work out legs hard, because they're such a big group of muscles, a 'lot' of testosteron will be released to fix the damage to the two musclefibers myosine and actine in the legs.

Wow - *excellent* idea there Scooby: fantastically simple and *safe*!
Seems similar to the squats my Personal Trainer had me do after a hernia op - using a pilates ball between my back and the wall in a similar way to how you're using the scate-board.
Keep up the stunning work (not least the inspiration you give to us "older" guys to keep working and looking great even post 4 decades ;) )
bootbrushpup 3 years ago
that's a shame scooby, we'll all miss you. I have pretty big legs genetically, so i never had to worry about chicken legs, but a guy in my sports performance class is so top heavy that he makes jokes about walking with tree trunks. I was just wondering scoob' since you don't really recommend neck exercises i was wondering what would be the best way to work myforearms, i have about average biceps and arms but i have pretty girly wrists, my grandad didnt have wrists, it was hand to elbow just flat

nice legs by the way! I hope to have legs like that soon.
bebofilm 3 years ago
I see a lot of dudes with impressive upper boddies, yet their legs look like cartoon caracter stick legs!! They look so ridiculously uneven. But I don't blame em! Legs are extremely tough and painful to train...but NO PAIN NO GAIN!!! Gotta do em ppl!
bebofilm 3 years ago
I have lots of knee pain even in normal activity. One thing that works for me is to go veeeeerryy slowly. I find that when my knees are flaring up, if I move slowly (5s up 5s down) I can make it thru the whole range of motion without any pain.
scooby1961 3 years ago
Great video! I've done this with a swiss ball as well. Once nice thing is you can hold dumbbells while you're doing this, then drop them at failure and keep going.
SonofDust777 3 years ago
i think normal squats are the nonplusultra legtraining. u show too much isolation exercises. what about deadlifts for example?
basementbrb 3 years ago
Hey basementbrb, powerlifting movements are great when learned with the help of a really good coach but for people working out at home they are much more likely to injure themselves than make themselves stronger.
scooby1961 3 years ago

ComputerW1z 3 years ago
For people with hand/wrist/forearm problems, you have to get creative. Hanging ab straps can be used to exercise lats (see my website, working around injuries). If your arm is fine but your hand incapable of gripping a dumbbell, you need to fashion a strap that can keep it "tied" onto your hand(or the end of your forearm if your hand is missing) without cutting off circulation or causing other damage. Once the dumbbell is tied on there you can do all exercises normally.
scooby1961 3 years ago
My arm is FULLY fuctionable... its just the upper half of it stopped growing. Say I hanged with both hands from a bar. You would notice my right shoulder would be more elevated them my left. Yeah my wrists are cool and everything. :) lol thanks
