Tsia Miang-Liang, the director, wanted first the 200 students he hired as extras to be dressed with vintage clothes like the main actors but that would have been too much expensive. Once by chance, one of the extras opened a watermelon umbrella she had been offered in a hair dresser. Seeing this the director had an idea and asked 200 umbrella to the hair dresser ! The problem of dressing the extras was solved and this scene came to be enhanced!

Splendid film. The musical scenes were very catchy, but the mood of the film was pretty glum. Tsai's a genius!
