Unfortunately, this isn't possible on many online Renegade servers, where the Obelisk is seriously messed up somehow. I've tried it once, and after waiting 20 seconds behind the first rock, the Obelisk shot at me RIGHT as I came out of cover.
Wrong, I tried this on MANY severs and it works perfectly. Although, it does work better when someone takes a shot from the obelisk, then you move in.
But this DOES work on most servers that I know off.
What servers are you talking about, exactly? I've tried this on a couple of servers, and I don't doubt I could do this on my own LAN-hosted server.
On most servers I'm getting killed by the Obelisk the moment it's capable of seeing me, even after waiting 10 or more seconds behind cover. (I also hear the Obelisk charge, but that's AFTER it shoots me)
I know what your talking about, that's just the way the obelisk works. Even on a self-hosted server, the obelisk can shoot you right after you try to run to the next cover. It's basically a matter of luck. That's why I said, it's better for a team mate to take the shot from the obelisk, so you will have time to get to the next cover.
But I'm telling you, I truly believe that this works on ANY server. Just try to practice more often like I did, your not going to learn this right away.

Ah, okay. I thought it was a server-side thing, as it's been happening to me constantly on several servers and very rarely on others.
I haven't actually made it INTO the Obelisk yet, though, as I always get shot at or near the final cover point.
It's quite strange how some servers ban this technique, though, as the principle behind it is basically the same as harvester walking.
