  • why are you filming a film ? O_o

instead of just uploaded the film in the first place :P

  • brnrik: Why do you hate people who were hipies? The hippie years in the USA were one of the only times ever that an entire generation held together by music, social and political beliefs came together and had some power for a fleeting moment. The fashions or lack of were visual statements on where one identified in all those areas mentioned.

  • Sucks getting old. I know, ha,ha,! but we rocked then, sorry for today, and we should be apoligizing cause we were a bunce of comies, ha ha ha tru dat!.

  • @thears2u Sure it sucks but the alternative is far worse. Remember the older you get more & more medical discoveries come out to give you a longer life. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have the ability to study anything of value and write a book or getting that 2nd degree or more. I'll tell you the greatest sin: using the ability to kill people that haven't done anything to you. We could be spending money on medical research. What about $2.5 billion/week for research instead of killing folks.

  • she got to play with James Taylor, lucky...

  • Priceless response to the first question !!

What a blessing to have lived knowing Joni Mitchell's music.

I consider her to be one of my great teachers in life and vocally.

  • hippie chicks didn't like makeup or bras. i hate hippies, but i love Joni!!! :) <3

  • She's inspiring. I love her art and music.

  • Why she wait so late in life to put on makeup . . . ?

  • prettyl amazing love her music bigtime but never have been one to scrutinze others's lives always the best.love her music.hang in there sister god has blessed you

  • That black guy wants to put it in her hiney hole

  • I am amazing happy to be alive the same time she is. What a powerhouse!

  • i love her

  • nice.

  • the bitch who is interviewing her has this jerkoff look like it is looking at a person with a meaningless life behind her and only demise to look forward to. The interview puke is ignorant. It is a fool.

  • @hasekdom Haha, this guy. ^

  • singing.... leads to smoking!

  • Ukes!

  • Joni is so beautiful. :)

  • that old lush she was spying on the j.edgar hoover deemed folk scene to be communist, for the FBI

  • Considering her life, she did have more to say. Like she had looked at it from both sides.

  • er interviews can touch on how we in America exploit youth as a, but don't value it enough to acknowledge it as a phase but something in a bottle, cream. Your look

can hide. And we don't rrespect age and it's wisdom. meeting with Gerofia o keefe,

Charles Mingus. She has great awareness and she doesn't do many but they alway go beyond a new cd or the record business. Fascinating

  • i would like too know who has passed your no doubt high moral tests, who has not had to suffer her putting a baby up for adoption as abandonment (children)..pluralized and adoption which is not abdanment. And then her faults-smoking you say. Your-limited knowledge, rough life with too many children, no chance to express or grow. Don't hat on Joni for doing what you couldn't. You sound old and bitter!

  • mygirltruth: her voice went thru many changes. I would thing that transition from

clouds to ladies of the Canyon. but Her voice matured and depend and by Court and Spark was beyond the qualities you describe. Thay parody Neil Young< Whitney,Elvis you prefer to thing it is only Joni. And it was one night in LA open mic-no pay. But our lady of truth is biased. Not so truthful

  • God..in this video she looks like Janet Leigh with long hair.l

What an amazing artist she is..Joni that is.

  • Jony Mitchell is the greatest singer I ever heard. I read her voice spectrum is two octaves, which is AMAZING ! A great singer and a great lady !

  • I think she's aged well and I'm glad she reunited with her daughter

  • love you JM

  • I love her.....she's unbelievably unaffected and a joy to watch and listen to singing or talking.

  • true beauty artistry, genius the greatest female artist of the 20th century and beyond

  • I met Graham Nash some years back and got to thank him personally for the music. I can only hope I get to do the same with Joni. Her music is beyond anything you can categorize.

  • Ah Joni...sometimes only her music will do.

  • Genius is the word that best describes this brilliant lady. Both she and her music are absolute treasures.

  • Joni is the best female artist of the Woodstock period

  • An astounding musician. I was fortunate enough to hear her in concert and she exceeded all expectations.

A propos nothing, I'm glad she's styling bangs again.

  • She looks awesome! Love Joni

  • @vivian2gin Joni Mitchell has never been closely associated with drugs - other than nicotine maybe. If fact, she was quoted years ago, before it was fashionable, as saying she didn't like pot because it "sat you on your ass". I suspect you've lost many more brain cells to beer and whiskey than Mitchell has to recreational drugs.

  • I don't like the interviewer in this clip. He should stick to reading the weather forecast!

  • neil young and joni mitchel both got polio...shit i want that stuff

  • @IndyJan1 I agree. Well said. Anjelic Huston said this on national television in the pbs show about Mitchell--I think. Anjelica said she felt 'it/Joni was not about her...that she was a channeler to something higher/greater...I thought that was so wise and appreciative coming from such an accomplished interesing person as Anjelica Huston

  • What TV show is this from?

  • fantastic laugh , so beautiful !

  • LOVE her.

  • she looks pretty

  • Name one other artist male or female whose song repertoire is as vast and full of quality. Throw in her voice, VERY unique guitar playing, and I can think of NOBODY dead or living to rival her. Is she underrated?........OH YEA!!!!

  • @vivian2gin red neck american idiot.

  • @lockycturn Not all Americans are that idiotic, though they give the rest of us a bad name. ;-)

  • @vivian2gin - "but this is just one southern, conservative, christian, republican, gun-toting, deer hunting, fish catching, Harley riding mans opinion."

You sound like the typical person from Alberta, except for the "southern" part.

  • What a fantastic laugh at 0:19! Just fantastic.

  • Comment removed

  • What's the name of this documentary? I would love to see the rest of it. :)

  • You've been the soundtrack to many of our lives, said the things we felt but couldn't say and did it with grace, imagination, and intricate melody. Thank you.

  • And cigarette smoking is what killed Joni's beautiful falsetto voice.

  • @YoVaginaStinks1 Please go AWAY !!! You're pathetic, misogynistic, and juvenile.

  • she and nyro rule.

  • Joni Mitchell is a true and actual artist, living the life as well as wielding the talent - take note, young ones, of a unique visionary person, who help a generation gain a higher awareness and broader insight of the many meanings of life, by living it herself, experimenting in the ways that seemed right to her own soul, and turning her experiences into enthralling heart-aching songs, to infuse beauty into the truths she discovered on her own -- props, kudos, love to Joni!

  • Joni .. I had all your same diseases ! love you !

  • @IndyJan1 You're right. Joni almost always has something bigger to say. That's why we love her songs. Typically, media interviewers aren't interest in that, however.

  • MOST INFLUENTIAL -----FEMALE OR MALE!!

    NONE MORE BRILLIANT!!!!

  • She's wonderful, has a HUGE following, and now, another generation is stuck on Ms. Joni Mitchell!

  • She is so beautiful.

  • "only the late 20th century?" LOL!!!!!

  • the next thing I happened to click on... This segment comes from " Joni Mitchell-Interview " (length (9:30) cbs sunday morning from Nov. 07 or so. Much better quality here.

  • Terrible clueless interviewer with no idea what to say to a genius.

  • You´re absolultely right! I bet he never listened to Joni´s music....

  • best songwriter ever.

  • Wow! She's still absolutely beautiful.

  • she said she "would like to have been a teacher in the begining"!!! Incredible

  • People who appreciate Joni's songwriting might like Mark Wilkinson. He's an Australian singer/songwriter, plays folk music, super voice. Google it, you'll like it. I saw him the other night and he has the best range and the most effortless transition through his passagio. Plus he sings songs that mean something.

He's only in his twenties, this guy. Bright future. If you like Jeff Buckley, you'll probably like him.

  • The saturation and degeneration in the video on video makes Joni look a little Donatella Versace...! But this is a great interview. I love her insight on rational and irrational conclusions. Also shows that she struggled early in life, was not of a privelaged upbringing, I think that may reflect the soul in her voice and stories, observations she sings of.

  • ha "he'd tell me to shut up"...love it

    she is so great

  • 4peacenik4. besides peace acrtivists are a real pain in the toukas they impress no one at least nobody sane. They are all a bunch of silly pompus totally out of it egomanical jerks. who are all wrapped up it the warm and fuzzy ( a rush like heroin feels)conceited egotist world all their own. they never accomplish anything except through their stupid opublicity stunts they show everyone just how out of touch with reality they really are.

  • You're certainly entitled to your opinion, Mr. short-order-cook. As for what a heroin rush feels like, I wouldn't know, I'm not that stupid. We accomplish much more than you think.

  • BabyGwar....and I am so glad your assholioness has presented itself...funny how some people interpret facts, or fabricate them..you, my friend, are the very reason why abortions are legal.

  • Thank you for posting this, it's great ! :-)

  • I was a waitress once, does that make me a bad person? You do not know the facts of what went on between her and her daughter, none of us do. Stop being so judgmental. You'll be a lot happier.

  • You're terrible at stereotyping people. I wonder what great "profession" you have? I'm a Breast Cancer Researcher at one of the top Universities in the USA, with an M.D. and a Ph.D. (for which I worked quite hard while working). I'm also a Peace Activist. I'm with Doctors Without Borders. Good enough for you? Oh, and most waitresses only work as such for relatively short times while going to school, or when very young, before they've decided what to do with their lives. WHAT do YOU do, hotshot?

  • No, I work with women who have breast cancer. Many of them die, I see this at least weekly, sometimes daily. If you think that is amusing or easy, guess again. As for your advice on what to eat or not eat, you do not know anything about the causes of breast cancer, mr. philosopher-who-can't-get-any-job-except-as-a-short-order-cook. Whatever degree you may have, if any, obviously didn't do you any good.

  • peaceforsomeonly,

    no you really don't

  • My nick is 4Peace4All. I have not stooped to denigrate yours. I have no idea what you're referring to with your "no you really don't", as it doesn't mean anything relative to my statement.

  • Right on, 4Peace4All.

  • boopdogg, thank you!

  • 1. Who care if she smokes

    2. Disciplining children is a good thing

    3. Joni grew up poor as poor can be, in the War Time rations era

    4. Everyone agrees, her music should be appreciated more.

    5. Would you have rather he terminate her pregnacy?

    6. having many lovers is not a bad thing for a woman, as it is not a bad thing for a man.

    7. I think your video that you have posted, shows you are a pain in the ass. C MoNey thA 1???????? Oh yeah you're a real music lover eh?

  • You're the racist, "BabyGwar", you seem really fixated on "jews". What's wrong, are you broke, unknown, un-famous, and just a little bit jealous?

  • thanks for posting this.....she is not only an incredible, prolific singer/songwriter, she also is a fabulous painter

  • Right on, jgilly99, the expert on here is a judgmental racist, and just a bit jealous.

  • So says someones who perfect! must be nice oh great one.....

  • Re "factual info":

1-She was incredibly young when she started out

2-giving up a baby for adoption is often right

3-she felt she would not be a good mother THEN

4-what effect does her smoking have on you?

5-many of us were "mattresses" in the 60s, so what? It was the time of the sexual revolution

6-charles mingus didn't like her, not everyone likes YOU either

7-WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO JUDGE SOMEONE LIKE THIS: WHAT HAVE *YOU* DONE IN YOUR LIFE THAT DOESN'T READ LIKE A LITTLE CHURCH LADY?

  • nice post, thank you.

    I ADORE HER!

  • thank you so much for posting this

  • She had a string of killer diseases from 8 to 9, then she started smoking and became healthy. Maybe Woody Allen had it right in Sleeper.

  • In response to '7855waldo', I think the reason he's so stoned-face is 1) it IS CBS, afterall, a mainstream, conservative t-v network; 2) He's obviously too young to have enjoyed her music as a kid; 3) well, you might be a BIT nervous, interviewing a living LEGEND; 4) therefore, he's trying to appear as cool as a cucumber while realizing he doesn't know shit!

  • God (in all His/Her/Its various incarnations) bless you for posting this. She is truly wonderful in every way.

  • Joni is the most under rated talent of our generation! She is multi talented.

  • @lanijo58 snoop dog is wayyyyyyy more talented, boi!!!!

  • @yuritim Not even bro. Even snoop would tell you that!

  • @martinishot fo shizz joni is the shit

  • @lanijo58 you're so luck to have her in your generation! I scratch my head over what we got.

  • Good Lord, what an awful, tone-deaf, oaf interviewing her at the onset.

Put him back in the paints section at Kmart, please!

  • She is and has never been surpassed in my eyes. I love Joni!

  • To call her a "female artist" is an insult. She is the most talented all-around artist of the 20th century. Period.

  • @slickvguy That is a very nice sentiment but it is not true. There are loads of people who fit that same accolade, no I'm not going to name them all or any for that matter, there is a 500 character limit, I could be here for days, she is extremely good, but i think you will find that Joni is not competing, she just does what she has to

  • @davidoffon Well said : )

  • @slickvguy exactly, a demeaning qualifier.

  • @slickvguy well, there have been more influential artists, such as the Beatles and Elvis Presley, but they were all pretty much male. I don't think there is a more influential female artist then her, though

  • @slickvguy she's a genius

  • @slickvguy - LOL Sentimental...but hardly factual. Joni made some good music...and some pretty awful music. I despise this kind of myth-making.

  • @thegrinchl7

Stop stealing Christmas and let your heart grow larger. OH and by the way you need your hearing checked. Some good music?????

  • @mygirlruth -You're not serious. Certainly you MUST know that in certain musical circles her voice is regarded with disdain. Shrill and some times ever so slightly discordant she combines with her slow and warbly vibrato an ALL-OVER- THE-MAP quality. Mind you, some even make fun of her. In LA they had an open mike night and a young girl got up and started doing singing impressions. She had the audience HOWLING with her Joni Mitchell mating calls. The audience GOT IT. They must've agreed.
  • @thegrinchl7 in LA? The land of lost souls? The epicenter of shallow thinking? The place whose best export to the world are the daily antics of Lindsay Lohan? PHHHHULLLLLLLEEEAAASSSSEEE. No one in that town can produce an original thought if their life depended on it. I seriously think the botox is freezing their brain cells in that town.

  • @mygirlruth - I agree Joni has "talent". However, it seems to lie in her ability to justify SMOKING CIGARETTES and ABANDONING her children. Not music. LA has its share of ugly people. I consider Joni to be one of them.

  • @thegrinchl7 He who is without sin cast the first stone. In this day and age of people opting for abortion, giving a child up for adoption and going the whole nine yards to have to come to that conclusion deserves merit. We don't live in a perfect world with perfect people, that is why there is justification for needing a Savior. Whatever the circumstance, in the end she has found her daugher, and her peace. There is the power of life and death in the tongue, it is written by the Great Author.

  • @TheLionessjudah - He who is without biblical CLICHES, let him have an opinion!

  • @thegrinchl7 The Word of God is for the wise, those who perish believe its foolishness.

  • @TheLionessjudah - Sayeth those who fondle little boys!

  • @thegrinchl7 You have to separate the world from the Word. That is a religion you refer to, I don't belong to religious doctrine, distorted catholisms, false doctrines, christians who are profiteers on the Word. I listen to Les Feldick, good bible teacher, no frills, giving you a pearl.

  • @TheLionessjudah - Why listen to anyone? Why do you need a "teacher" to tell you the difference between RIGHT and WRONG? Where is your quiet wisdom (we all have some)? Let me guess: you come from a dysfunctional home? Your father molested you and your ex-husband beat you? You know, the Christian armies seem to be comprised of weak and broken people. Here's a pearl: Shhhhh! If there's one thing that confirms that there is no "god" is the existence of loud, preachy zealots.

  • @thegrinchl7 why would u say that stuff. thta just shows that it is more likely YOUR reality.. u sound like u need god or somethin for that messed up head man

  • She is one of my heros...love you Joni!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cheers for this. Fantastic to see such a recent interview from the great lady. If only she'd come to the UK again i'd walk 100 miles over hot coals to see her live.

  • wow...she likes bowling and chain smoking.....thats my kind of woman

  • Yet another reason not to vaccinate! (I'm kidding!) If she hadn't had polio, scarlet fever, and chicken pox, she would have become an athlete instead of our Joni.

  • You actually use the word "jewel" in your nick, and then post something as horrible as this? Saying that if she hadn't been ill, if she'd gotten vaccinations to PREVENT the illnesses, she wouldn't have had her talents? What an ignorant pig.

  • I play her CD's more than anyone else. She is my all time favorite artist. Thanks for sharing this.

  • Not that she needs it, but I would love to tell her directly how much I love her music, her lyrics, HER! Thanks Hugg for posting this. Time seems to be kind to good people. Loved the video!

  • i love love joni, its strange seeing her older, she is still beautiful .

  • Mimi... it is LOVELY to see the same smile of her youth in her face! Real artists grow older and don't make a shame of themselves. She is great, as Robert Plant is great - age gracefully, and still evolve - instead of making "covers" of themselves! Please take this lightly - downthumbs are nasty, and do not add anything to good, deserving people as yourself! Ahavah!

  • I agree,, I didn't mean what I said as a bad thing, it's just you rarely see modern pictures of Joni .. You can still tell it is her and I like that :) xxxx

  • I have no idea why someone labeled "smoothjazmine's" post as "spam". It's true, and it's positive. What on earth caused someone to "spam" it?

  • Joni is a musical and intellectual God ...

I just LOVE her music and her text.

It is a GREAT pity that the dumb commercial media does not play her music for the young people of today .... who need to understand most !

Joni .. I wish you a VERY long and beautiful life.

Thankyou so much for your work !

  • I want to marry her!!!

  • There's no one like her.....

  • i love you joni more than anything else in the world

    xxx

  • Pity she didnt quit her smoking habit!! I guess when you write such great somgs you are allowed some vices! Just is a shame to hear that!

  • Artists can be like that. She is an amazing person in that regard (artistry) for certain. I have long admired her ability to create.

  • Even if you don't appreciate her music (which I do), you have to admire her intelligence and talent. She never bowed to popular trends and was always pushing her personal musical boundaries. Her Hejira album is one of my all time favorites.

  • It's a pity she quit her BOWLING habit!

  • I simply worship Joni.She is a true genius.

  • Great smile and a wonder to hear talk

  • Thanks for this brief insight. I have loved her since the 1970's, but knew little about her life.

  • She's funny! Behind the opening joke, though, is the truth.

She's up there with the greatest composers...period.

  • I totally agree. It is amazing that the greatest song writer in history also has the greatest singing voice in the history of recorded sound. I don't think the sirens in Greek mythology could have had voices that sound any better than hers.

  • Why do the people who do theses pieces only use the same songs over and over again? How about something from "Hejira" or "Night Ride Home", bitches?

  • You're right, but this is just the way Big Media does things generally. The high powered radio stations keep playing the same old songs because they don't want to spend the time and money to educate their audience. It's cheaper and easier to fall back on the most popular songs. The same attitude explains why there are so many spinoff shows on t.v. and stupid sequels at the movies. That doesn't mean, however, that the songs they use in this clip aren't worth hearing again.

  • Because there are un-informed people who will scratch their head and say: "Who?" Like Beethoven, for instance, once most people hear the opening strains of the 5th Symphony: "TA-TA-TA-daaaah", they recognize it, but play "Sonata op.57 No.23 Appasionatta" and they won't have a clue. People only know what they've been fed.

  • then again, for those who hear these songs fro the first time and like them, it is easy for them to go and find out some more of the artist who produces them...

even more true nowadays, what with the internet and all the fast streaming... you don't even have to be a curious mind... ;)

  • @SkeeterNYC A-frickin-men. You'd think she only wrote three songs. But there's so much more to her than Big Yellow Taxi, Woodstock or Both Sides Now. I can't imagine my life without Hejira or Mingus.

  • @STFUGTFO1 Don't forget The Hissing of Summer Lawns! F-ing brilliant.
