The animal is a snake. This song was originally by Bob Dylan, and was written after his conversion to Christianity. The lyrics are deceptively simple. The implication is that this last animal will bring about man's ruin. The childlike silliness of the song is contrasted with this reminder of a coming fall. The tree, of course, is the one in Eden.

@Aristagoras that was what i got out of it too. I thought it was really cool how he wrote the lyrics about Adam naming the animals, and then the last one is the snake, which coincidentally is the last animal he encountered in Eden...and like you said, it wsa the reason he was forced to leave the Garden. I thought it was really clever that he didn't actually say the word "snake", because it's implied that he was more than just a snake; he was also the devil incarnate. GREAT song. : )
