You make it sound like people never help kids who live near them. I think you'll find there are plenty of charities in the US already set up to help children who live there.
The point of helping children in many of the poorer countries is that they have no help at all unless we give it to them.

I've lived in Mexico and Canada, and at least in Canada you never ever see homeless kids, while in Mexico, you get to see MORE homeless kids than adults, and that breaks my heart.. It's a painful sight, and for all I know, kids in the Middle East are in worse conditions than Mexican kids, so I'd rather help the kids in the Middle East.
That is what I was trying to say. We have kids there that need food a shelter too. I'm not sure if anyone realizes it but the third world countries don't ask us to help and when we do help them we get into wars like in the middle east. We are over in Iraq helping them when we could be here rebuliding our country. We are in debt to many countries and we just keep spendind money we don't have in Iraq to help people that killed thousands of our own people.
Shawn only works with people who _have_ asked for help. And this is not government money, remember. This is nerdfighter money.
And it's true that there are many people in America who live in poverty and who live with inadequate food and shelter. But you're presuming an us v. them mentality (i.e., that American citizens should make sure life is good for all Americans before we give to others; this presumes that 'we' should be prioritized over 'them').

B. The debt is something we're going to have to deal with in time; there is no quick fix.

Congrats on being nominated for the Rosie Book Award for Looking for Alaska.
We had to watch a video in school today about it, and I was looking forward to seeing one of your books on the list. When I saw it, I kept wanting to shout out that it's John Green's book, but I didn't want to get in trouble.
But I guess a Rosie isn't much compared to a Printz.

This was a really great video. I've been thinking a lot about how there isn't much awesome around where I am as of late, and I have now been inspired to do something about it.

I think clean water is the most important thing to do first of all..After all, without clean water many children will not live long enough to go to school or even see a doctor in the first place :(

am i perhaps the only one who sees the message of nerdfighters as both a good and bad thing?
like, knowledge is empowering to the individual, and seeking it... well i think thats definately a worthwhile preoccupation in life...
but every single person i know, in real life, with a decent head on those shoulders, is a complete egoist and really not worth my time...
im rather torn.

You make it sound like people never help kids who live near them. I think you'll find there are plenty of charities in the US already set up to help children who live there.
The point of helping children in many of the poorer countries is that they have no help at all unless we give it to them.

i think i can understand what you're saying but i take a different approach to it-
if we are going to help accelerate third world countries to become as 'advanced' as our own countries, we should first step back and recognise that our country is not, infact, advanced considering what it SHOULD BE like.
well, that applies to me and anyone else in Australia anyway - child poverty is on the rise... :[

I've lived in Mexico and Canada, and at least in Canada you never ever see homeless kids, while in Mexico, you get to see MORE homeless kids than adults, and that breaks my heart.. It's a painful sight, and for all I know, kids in the Middle East are in worse conditions than Mexican kids, so I'd rather help the kids in the Middle East.
I don't know if I make myself clear =S.

That is what I was trying to say. We have kids there that need food a shelter too. I'm not sure if anyone realizes it but the third world countries don't ask us to help and when we do help them we get into wars like in the middle east. We are over in Iraq helping them when we could be here rebuliding our country. We are in debt to many countries and we just keep spendind money we don't have in Iraq to help people that killed thousands of our own people.

Shawn only works with people who _have_ asked for help. And this is not government money, remember. This is nerdfighter money.
And it's true that there are many people in America who live in poverty and who live with inadequate food and shelter. But you're presuming an us v. them mentality (i.e., that American citizens should make sure life is good for all Americans before we give to others; this presumes that 'we' should be prioritized over 'them').

john is certainly a talented writer and decreasing world suck is something i completely support. but if u ever talk to him in person u learn he's a total PRICK. it really made me lose my enthusiasm for the vlog brothers. and this is a guy who took a month to go back and watch every single video they've made. then to learn he's such an ASS to people really disappointed me.

In response to your interview: I loved that you said you were motivated by your ex-girlfriends, haha. (I'm drawing a lot and submitting online, spurred by a similar reason.)
And I knew you'd say "No" to the question about if writing gets easier. I remember reading a quote that said that, for good writers, it's not easier, it's harder. haha.
