Pacific Amphitheater, Costa Mesa, CA. October 2, 1988. 14:44
Note: Stevie & Jimmie Vaughan and Cesar Rosas (Los Lobos) join Santana for encore. According to a Santana website, they also played "Deeper, Dig Deeper" during Santana's encore, and Santana and Jimmie jammed during Stevie's encore. Stevie plays double-neck guitar (by himself).
Grade: audience, high gen. Possible upgrade on Disc 72.
The Thunderbirds backed Carlos on an entire Santana album - it was a commercial flop and largely forgettable - but they both get points in my book for trying something new.
what a cool rare clip, would have rather seen Stevie playing one his strats, would have got a better tone, , must have been some reason why he played that thin sounding double neck,,,
Santana mentioned that he did a show with SRV in the late 80's and wants to release the soundoard to the public. I'm pretty sure this is the show. Trouble is, Jimmie Vaughan won't let most of his brother's live shows get released for some reason.
@Drpepper687 Stevie had a concert on December 3rd, 1989 at the Oakland Coliseum where during his second encore he had a jam with Santana. That's probably the one Santana is thinking of. It's out there. I've heard it and I have it on my computer somewhere. And it's a really good jam!!
@dgeai The lefty with the shades (always) is the great Cesar Rosas, the guitarist along with the equally talented David Hidalgo, with the great East LA band Los Lobos. Live they are great as are all these musicians.
Few things on youtube can give me goosebumps but this brings back the memories. I was actually there, a 17-year old. Sitting right by the stage. Learning guitar.
Awesome.
