The only way I can get my water to show up above the surface, is to Ctrl+T the water to a func_water_analog, but then the surface barely moves and doesn't splash when I shoot it.
I don't see any errors in my compile and I have zero leaks. The only thing in my compile I'm concerned with is "***need to set $abovewater for material (texture path)"

@warnightify Probably a problem with your level, instead of the water. Do you have a leak? When you look through the compilelog (all the text that appears when you compile your map) does it say anything about portal overflow errors? (Pardon the pun)
@3kliksphilip i tried the dev_water5/dev_water2 and i had like a pond with a displacement can that be the problem? and i had a displacement texture on the bottom!
@PWNBOII I don't think so, but the colour of the displacement is certainly capable of changing the colour of the water from certain angles. Did it look BAD? Or just... green?

@3kliksphilip I Actually Have Programs Valve Hammer Editor 3.4 but its not complete entity no info_player_counterterorist, info_player_terorist and do not forget water_lod_control
@MrNaufan haaaaaahahahaha, in goldsrc there is no info_player_counterterrorist or info_player_terrorist. counter terrorists are info_player_start and terrorists are info_player_deathmatch. about the textures, cs 1.6 has crappy water and there couldn't be func_lod_control. hahaha, u made my day now...
I'm working on a team fortress 2 level map, and I still can't get ANY of those water texture display ingame. I have changed the object properties from func_detail to func_water and func_water_analog and NONE of them worked AT all! I'm serious frustrated at the moment that I can't get a simple water added to my level.
@TwistedCyclonee They all do... and yet nothing does? Which game are you mapping for? Are you sure you're waiting for all of the props to load? If you type in tree, there should be a load of street signs that load up. Do they appear? If so, try scrolling down. The trees should be just below that.
@Stupiiakzi It might be that your map has a leak or something, PM me the compilelog for your map (the text that appears when you try to compile). Make sure you name the private message something like 'water not see-through'
@FrostbiteCinemaYT Either you rent a server, or configure a dedicated server on your own pc (hard), or you upload the map to a large site like gamebanana, and they'll download and play it from there
@3kliksphilip Thanks. My current Project is a TF2 Map, and its a Flooded Cave. I just started it this week, and I am hoping to finish it within 3-6 months. There is going to be Metal Pathways above the Water, that people can go on. I am going for an Arena, you die, you loose. Also, I don't want Team Spawns, but I DO want Teams. I want all the Spawns to be Random. I'm not sure how to make Detailed Metal Paths, or make it Arena Mode. Anything helps. :) Again, thank you very much.

Hey, I'm making a hugeass project(tf2 map). And I think this song really matches my map. Can I use it in the map and loop it in the bg. I tested it, and it loops really well.
@mrnicosable You mean, when it goes from the level to the 3D skybox? Are you SURE they're at the same height as each other? Same texture scale (relative to the scale of the 3D skybox) and that the textures are aligned? Try and find out what's causing it from the above suggestions. Perhaps the ground under the water is a different colour once you go beyond the confines of your level.
How do I make it so that objects can have multiple textures as if grass is sprayed onto the grass (similair to the Sims games)? its been confusing me for a while :P
@PrincePhoenixThe1st all water textures are automatically swimable, to walk on water you need something like nodraw above in the water to prevent you from slipping through

Nice work, although I would have liked just another second on each water type.
But what I'd really like is some old style water. It's too problematic to have to filter through 3 dozen water textures to make sure you have one that you can see through, then its something else to have to go into each one and check if the "fog" in the water allows you to see more than 5 feet in front of you. Valve needs fog-less water in source, and hopefully wave height control, even if just a little.
@3kliksphilip i discovered the problem i had a skybox around the map from the middle, and i think some of the water was outside the map box.i did a new skybox that goes all around my map and now i can see the water :)
Need help, Whatever water texture i use i cant see the water only when im in i can see it from the inside. could it be leaks in the skybox? cus ive been using some displacements. and a wierd thing is one time when i started the map it was a skybox around the map,And i havnt even put on the roof of the skybox :S
@RafflarN Wait... you haven't got a roof on your skybox? Do you think that could be the cause of the leak? And you're not using a displacement to seal your map, are you? Oh and the water texture you're using shouldn't have 'beneath' in its name
Tick the little box at the bottom of the compile-settings window (when you press F9) which says; "Don't run the game after compiling". Making Hammer initialize the game load is buggy, and should be avoided.
I was thinking.. is there any way to put some kind of "Blue fog" under the water texture? I've tried with env_fog.... but, I can't select the heigh of that fog.
Do you know any way?

@3kliksphilip It's not too deep. I've found that it's a custom texture. Im gonna try to do some similar. I hope to compress good custom textures, last time I did that, my server crashes when I put the map xD.
I have a question.. When i put a brush on my map with "Trigger" texture and , for example "water_canals03" on the up side. I add a env_cubemap and "pick" to that brush.. thats ok, but, in the game.. I see the water transparent, not like in your video...
@Sazeik Isn't water being transparent a good thing? Do you mean it's totally invisible? It also depends on the angle you're looking at it from. canals03 is translucent to a certain degree.
@3kliksphilip Hmm ok, I hadn't understood the "reflect" at SDK Source so.. I thought it was like UDK or something, where u can specify the reflect in the material.
@UWCcyberwolf Do you have a leak in your map? Tools, Load Pointfile, see if a red line appears. If so, follow the line and it will show you how stuff in your level is able to escape into the blackness surrounding it

Well if it's that it's called Paint geometry, you can find it by going to face edit sheet, that block with the blue green and red, then go to displacement, once you have done that I asum that you have selected a block, you now goto create, choose your desired setinings, and then goto paint geometry. @3kliksphilip I fixed the problem, there were a additional stupid env_light outside of the map. After I delete it, the water is fixed. >_<

@Sazeik Isn't water being transparent a good thing? Do you mean it's totally invisible? It also depends on the angle you're looking at it from. canals03 is translucent to a certain degree.

@3kliksphilip Hmm ok, I hadn't understood the "reflect" at SDK Source so.. I thought it was like UDK or something, where u can specify the reflect in the material.

i need help, all my water textures dont appear right. they appear as the blur you see if you look outside the map how do you fix this?

@UWCcyberwolf Do you have a leak in your map? Tools, Load Pointfile, see if a red line appears. If so, follow the line and it will show you how stuff in your level is able to escape into the blackness surrounding it

You just have to make a brush, and cut it. A LOT.

@MigElskeWOW Like the way it's shaped? Well if it's that it's called Paint geometry, you can find it by going to face edit sheet, that block with the blue green and red, then go to displacement, once you have done that I asum that you have selected a block, you now goto create, choose your desired setinings, and then goto paint geometry. Please tell me that was your problem...

I got a question. I'm building a map, a dock, where I got my water and want it to go to "into the infinity" in the skybox. However, the skybox doesn't have any water. The water i'm using is dev_water4. How do I make it do that?

@parker56 You'll have to master the art of making a 3D skybox. It's kind of hard to explain, so I'll just PM you a link to one I made earlier.
