  • is 2mm too thin?

  • @baldycoup

I can't comment on that. I have only used 7/64" Amsteel Blue, which is proven to give a good margin of safety. I personally would not use anything less.

  • @kohnago

    Thanks,

I use a 10 - 12 inch bury for the constrictor sections. Some use less, but I stay on the safe side.

  • what diameter rope are you using I see it comes ins 1/2,1/8, 5/16 the listings I have seen don't show a strength to thickness ratio.

  • @finieclimber

I use either 7/64" or 1/8". Go to Redden Marine's website and search for "amsteel blue". They will give sizes and the related strength. I believe 7/64 is 1600# and 1/8 is about 2400. Plenty strong in those sizes.

  • hi can u tell me how much line i would have to by to make two woopies for my hammock

  • @dbw16d

Depends on how much adjustment you want on each end. I start with 12-14 fee of line on each end for about 6 feet of adjustment.

  • Hi, thanks for this GREAT video... what gauge wire did you use to make that tool? Also, how long should I make my Amsteel Blue cord on either side of the hammock? is 12 feet a good amount (figuring ~6 feet when it doubles back on itself minus the foot lost for the bury on the hammock).

  • @fredvs79

Hello, and thanks for the comments. I use wire of about .025". Heavier will work, but I don't like it much lighter than that. On a Hennessy I usually start with 13 -14 feet of cord due to the method of tying onto the hammock. Could probably get by with less.

  • @nohill4climber 22 gauge wire- Thanks.

  • @nohill4climber I used 22 gauge wire, same thickness. You forgot to show that it REALLY helps if you pre-taper the end before making the bury or the sling. Also, do NOT heat-seal the ends, it just makes a thick blob that makes threading it through the core nearly impossible.

  • which rope is this and where can i get it

i tried AMSTEEL-BLUE no results other than manufacturer, no retailers

  • @LoenjaSelter

Google "Redden Marine" and/or Arrowhead Equipment. They both have it. Probably most marine suppliers would.

  • only works with "hollow" ropes i guess???

  • @atzerath Yes, hollow braid. Amsteel Blue is what everyone is using.

  • great video but my HH only has one hole in the end of the hammock. the stock cord is wrapped four times around the end and back thru and thru the inside ridgeline and then tied off to suspension cord. I assume I should do the same with the whoopie sling loop, just instead of tiing it off just pass the tree end throught the fixing loop and pull tight.

I have the HHULBB which just has one hole.

  • @jt838 I'm not familiar with a Hennessy with only one hole, but I think the attachment method would be similar. You might want to run this question by the good folks at hammockforums to get the opinions of a number of people. We could all learn from it. I'm at work at the moment or I'd try a few things.

  • This is the vid that had me changin out the stock HH suspension for the whoopie sling.

    Thanks for the grear vid

    Tom

  • How do you make the eye in the fid? Is that guitar string?

  • Yes. simply a piece of music wire or guitar string doubled and twisted. I like wire of about 20 thousandths of an inch diameter. Thanks for the comment.

  • Thanks for the video! The music was also good!

I just need to pull some money together some day for some amsteel, I am working on putting together my first real hammock setup! It should make those bone shaking boxcar rides a bit more comfortable for me.

  • Man this turned out really nice. Like the music too. Straight simple and easy to follow. GREAT HOW TO video pal!
