Honestly, the gymnasts today are boring to watch. Especially on bars. There is nothing interesting about their routines and they make it look hard. If we had to name the best gymnasts in history no one from 95 and up would make it.
Seriously. Nastia? He Kexin? You really think they have no talent. Beth Tweddle? Do you even watch gymnastics? Especially with the new system, they have to do more and more difficult tricks to get the scores.
For "the newer gymnasts passes are like 3x as hard" Look at the banned passes (because of danger level) Shushunova, Davydova, Strazheva and such were doing. Then tell me that. If you have such a problem with balletic, bitchfacy (bitchface owns all), "boring" (not!) gymnasts from the old days you can look at Comaneci, Omelianchik, Silivas, etc. They had fun with their routines AND they didn't have gross dance.
Also, Laschenova had one of the most difficult, creative, amazing passes EVER, and she didn't think it was an excuse for robotic gymnastics. I like your other videos, but not this one. Plus that whole 16's unsafe thing.....Nadia and Aurelia Dobre were 14 in their primes.... Don't even ask me how old Kim Gwang Suk was.
I think the new gymnasts make gymnastics more exciting and better to watch! The dance moves they do make gymnastics more fun and not so stiff. I think with the new stuff it seperates itself from ballet more. The new have exciting moves that have so much more power! I think the new gymnasts redefined gymnastics into a sport that not everyone can do and a sport where u have to have grace, flexibilaty, skill, power, and more!
No offence, but I quite preffered the old gymnastics because today the gymnasts are just not graceful, take Carly Patterson for example. She is just not that graceful if you think about it and so I did prefer old gymnastics better, but this montage is still excellent for making at 2 in the morning!

I mean come on people, seriously, if we still had the "old" gymnastics, we'd still be doing fronthandspring vaults in the olympics. And now look what we got, doublefront sumersaults. one 1/2's, and so much more. The "New" gymnastics today, are way much more than what it was, it takes strenght, flexiblitie, raw power,and so much more.
the power stuff is great, but why do we have to lose the gracefulness and beauty? I think that Shannon Miller was the closest we've come to combining the two. She did the power stuff, but she was still graceful in her dance.
They're also spending way more time doing psycho hard vaults and beam dismounts instead of the old compulsories that forced a gymnast to have a perfect leap and pirouette. If anyone should be blamed, it's the FIG for making the rules that way.
I personally think that the old gymnasts from the golden era of gymnastics were much better than the crap that is served up as gymnastics today. There is no grace, style or elegance and if you look at the routines they actually looked harder before than they do now (you only have to look at the videos on youtube to see the difference). IT's just painful to watch the gymnasts of today compared to the old gymnasts
And then Nastia comes along and proves this video wrong! THAT grace AND power (though she is not as powerful) CAN co-exist. SHE proves that the pwerful gymnast is not ALWAYS the best....hopefully more Nastia's will come along...THOSE gymnasts PROVE that grace and classical elegance STILL has a place in gymnastics!
i love this motage and i think it's great that you got your opinion across. i think it's great to have powerful gymnasts and graceful gymnasts because it gives our sport diversity ya know. and i'd love 2 see more artistry in men's gymnastics so many are put to the way side for being artsy. like that one greek gymnast who won floor at the 96 games.

Well....though I watch gynast competitions religiously I have o say that it is not just gymastics but nearly EVERY artform that is being corrupted by idiots who call this "new" stuff art.......all this new music....new "literature"....new movies.....when they let the skeleton....the background of their artform become something they are completely ignorant about.
So I'm guessing you totally hate the fact that Morgan Hamm is trying to incorporate the airflair into his FX routine? I think it's totally awesome he's getting his b-boy on... and adding some new difficulty!

No one said the video itself sucked....just the concept that these "new code" gymnasts represent acurately what ARTISTIC gymnastics are. Read Plato...I liek Socrates's take on gymnastics and classical art forms in book 3 (?) of the Republic...THAT is the way it should be.
Sorry but... This video is wrong in some many levels. I couldn't watch it for too long. FX nowadays is ridiculous except for rare beautiful gymnasts who still live up to the old days of glory. Shawn who? Give me Tessa Pama, Nastia Liukin, Pang Panpan, Zhou Zhouru or even Charlotte Mackie anyday. They know this sport is called ARTISTIC gymnastics. They are worth watching.
Charlotte is an amazing gymnast but she seems more serious than Gael. and in case u didnt notice Charlotte has a forced smile on her face. Gael's is natural.

I don't really see why you don't like old gymnastics, a lot of the skills were much harder, especially the tumbling. Nowadays the gymnasts are just using awful choreography like Shawn Johnson's.

i LOVE dos santos... her dance, and her REDICULOUS tumbling... she's got the all-around package. She's so powerful in her tumbling and her jumps. And i agree with you with Shawn Johnson too... she's AMAZING. With the dance debate, i also agree, i fast forward to tumbling passes if the dance is boring, and shawn johnson's is a routine that i watch the entire thing
umm shawn johnson has the hardest pass i've ever seen it's the same as zamos. a double double! and no i'm not contradicting myself because i don't care about most dances but if it's a fun dance then i like to see it. but the ballet crap needs to go.
and shawn johnson's routines is amazing and it fits the music perfectly. on youtube the music is very screwed up but i have vids here and it goes perfectly and it is a very fun dance compared to nastia's throwing herself around to music i'd play at a funeral
If Shawn's is the hardest you've ever seen you have never seen old gymasts like Omelianchik and Shushunova whose tumbling passes would make Shawn's look like a newbie's.

If you think that then you have probably never watched Silivas, Milosovici, Omelianchik and Zamolodchikova. They had extremely difficult tumbling passes that are now banned because of the danger level. If you think the passes are now 3x as harder, then they must be easy for the old gymnasts.
The new dancing is all sloppy nowadays and most gymnasts have bad form,apart from Izbasa and Nistor.

not even just gym GIRLS.... i'm a gym GUY... i do college gymnastics and i just recieved a 4.0 this past semester... competing every weekend, travelling 7 hours away on a bus, leaving on thursday, getting back at 3am on sunday, classes all week long, teaching PE in an elementary school, practicing gymnastics 6 days a week, and finding SOME time to socialize...
gymnastics is a sport of character and it teaches people how to juggle many different things, but to keep the more important things on top. Congrats on your 4.0 as well... i know how difficult it is! lol

To answer your question Ashleyakaflipper, many people don't like the direction gymnastics has taken now because the beauty and grace that it once represented is slowly diminishing. Gymnastics is not supposed to be about tumbling alone. It is tumbling combined with artistry. (hence the name, artistic gymnastics)

Why all that show footage? Not many big tricks at shows. Don't you have recent competition footage of gymnasts with "fun" dance? More dance footage from the gymnasts in black and white to compare the old and new styles would've been nice. You just show them marching to the equipment. I also wonder which gymnasts in the show footage are supposed to be the old gymnasts who are joining the new crowd. It seems like every girl shown was always a "fun" dancer.

i LOVE dos santos... her dance, and her REDICULOUS tumbling... she's got the all-around package. She's so powerful in her tumbling and her jumps. And i agree with you with Shawn Johnson too... she's AMAZING. With the dance debate, i also agree, i fast forward to tumbling passes if the dance is boring, and shawn johnson's is a routine that i watch the entire thing

umm shawn johnson has the hardest pass i've ever seen it's the same as zamos. a double double! and no i'm not contradicting myself because i don't care about most dances but if it's a fun dance then i like to see it. but the ballet crap needs to go.

If Shawn's is the hardest you've ever seen you have never seen old gymasts like Omelianchik and Shushunova whose tumbling passes would make Shawn's look like a newbie's.

If you think that then you have probably never watched Silivas, Milosovici, Omelianchik and Zamolodchikova. They had extremely difficult tumbling passes that are now banned because of the danger level. If you think the passes are now 3x as harder, then they must be easy for the old gymnasts.
The new dancing is all sloppy nowadays and most gymnasts have bad form,apart from Izbasa and Nistor.

not even just gym GIRLS.... i'm a gym GUY... i do college gymnastics and i just recieved a 4.0 this past semester... competing every weekend, travelling 7 hours away on a bus, leaving on thursday, getting back at 3am on sunday, classes all week long, teaching PE in an elementary school, practicing gymnastics 6 days a week, and finding SOME time to socialize...

Thanks, I thought your video was pretty funny. To answer your question Ashleyakaflipper, many people don't like the direction gymnastics has taken now because the beauty and grace that it once represented is slowly diminishing. Gymnastics is not supposed to be about tumbling alone. It is tumbling combined with artistry. (hence the name, artistic gymnastics)

Why all that show footage? Not many big tricks at shows. Don't you have recent competition footage of gymnasts with "fun" dance? More dance footage from the gymnasts in black and white to compare the old and new styles would've been nice. You just show them marching to the equipment. I also wonder which gymnasts in the show footage are supposed to be the old gymnasts who are joining the new crowd. It seems like every girl shown was always a "fun" dancer.

umm no i don't have any footage of "fun" dance. and i don't have any footage of old floor routines either. i wasn't trying to put the big tricks in at the shows at the shows were gymnastics shows and there never used to be those types of shows. the old gymnasts aren't in the shows. like i said i don't have enough footage to do the dance of the older gymnasts. if you have a problem with it then make one yourself, unless you requested it you have no say. sorry.

I looked at your vid and asked questions and made suggestions that I thought might help you out. I wasn't asking you to change your vid so I would like it better.
