Lots of performers can write original material, but not many can write good quality songs. This is the reason we get so many singers performing their own songs that are rubbish.

Dusty Springfield wrote very few, Tom Jones wrote none, but their strengths were in singing, not writing.

That is the pop chart. She got to number 4 actually. Not bad for a classical artist. Of course you forgot to mention the following fact. 6 consecutive weeks at number 1 in the classical charts. She is at present at number 2. Not many cracks there then. I'm sorry if you think that I am hyping her up, but I prefer to let the facts speak for themselves. Just to correct you if I may. Katherine first met Faryl in 2007. In May 2008 BGT was on the air. They were in contact then. Faryl signed her contract in January 2009 so Katherine did not latch onto her after the contract was signed. But was offering advice long before then. I am not defending Faryl, I don't need to. What I am doing is stating facts which you choose to omit or at least mis-interpret. Faryl answers her detractors by singing, and doing so very well.

Faryl has sung at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod for a number of years, as a soloist or as a member of Masquerade Choir, who were winners in 2008. She also won the under 15 solo class at the age of 10. Like other winners there she has been invited to sing at the opening gala. She was introduced to Katherine by Joe O'Neil when she was 10 and Katherine has taken an interest in her progress ever since all of this pre dates any recording contracts.

Her living grandfather and great grandmother both of whom are Welsh, can hardly be described as distant relatives. Her grandfather taught her Calon Lan and she does sing it in Welsh. By your reckoning Bryn Terfel should not sing Italian, French or German opera. he doesn't speak their languages and he wasn't born in any of those countries. In any case only about 30% of Welsh people speak Welsh fluently. One Welsh song out of the 12 on the cd and you get your knickers in a twist. Grow up.

Believe it or not, I know that Cardiff is in Wales. I also know that Shirley Bassey was born there. The fact is that although her parentage is not Welsh she is accepted, without question as being Welsh. Faryl, who has a strong Welsh lineage on her mother's side and happens to mention it, is criticised for so doing. She is not claiming to be Welsh. That is something that others are accusing her of doing even though there is not a shred of evidence to support the accusation.

I saw Faryl Smith performing with Katherine Jenkins at the MEN Arena on Thursdsay 18/12/2008. She was INCREDIBLE!! What an amazing talent. She will be releasing her first CD in the new year, which is good news. Thank God that there still is some REAL talent in the world. Go, Faryl!!

None of the vids of the other acts in the show have ever been withdrawn. Freemantle have the show performances copyrighted but Faryl is not under contract to them. How come they pull her vids only and not all of the others too?
