ai puristi che parlano di voce troppo"leggéra" per il ruolo, io dico che questo è un MODELLO di come si canta- tecnica stupenda e nobile, elegante fraseggio- brava Renata-
This has its moments.. but the second part of this( the aria) should be sung sweetly, without acid or forcing.. and she has both in her voice... I love Scotto in the right stuff.. this is not it! The High c at the end is kinda nice.. though.
The most hideous singing of Abigaille imaginable: Verdi'd definitely rot in his grave. The original powers that be that green-lighted Scotto as Abigaille, EMI and Muti, should all be burnt in hell.
La tecnica e la classe le hanno consentito di cantare anche ruoli non adatti alla sua voce di liricoleggero! E poi, ragazzi, che freseggio e che intelligenza! Una delle più grandi!
I don't meant tha you have to respect her as an artist because it's your personal opinion (which, anyway, you could express differently) .
No matter you like her singing or not, I think insulting someone as a human being just because you don't respect what he or she is doing for their job, is simply not appropriate.
I think You could be more respectful and polite expressing your opinion on person who really did a lot of work, no matter you like it or not. Everybody has right for expressing their opinions it's true but please don't insult anyone like that....
Considering Scotto was a gifted lyric soprano this is an astounding bit of work. At what cost though I wonder. Poor Scotto: if she had 20% more spinto in her lovely voice she would have been the happiest singer in the world! And then again, this makes me marvel as to how easy Callas made it sound. Great recording and interpretation from the superb Scotto, none the less.
When she stayed in her fach, she was great. The problem with Scotto, she actually thought her voice was the same size as Callas. Scotto was a light.. lyric, coloratura, in her first fifteen years, and when she stayed that way and didnt push it was great. When she tried to sound like Callas, it was terrible SCREAMING.
Scotto kept singing which saved her so to speak, but she was never as great as maria was during her prime.. .. actually none are. They cannot compare to that Trifecta of voice, interpretation, musicality.
exciting; it's nice to hear her in repertoire which is not usually sung by this singer. it would be interesting to hear her clytemnestra...she did do this role
Anchio dischiuso was beautifully song... Ben io t'invenni- wow, that was insane singing. I've never heard anyone bite those words down as she does here. Totally abusive and damaging to her voice, but absolutely thrilling.
she has never performed it live... but it's only recording of Nabucco that I can listen to. She is soooo wonderful here. in those days I listen to the recording over and over again and every time I'm just impressed. I agree anyway it's not exactly for her voice type...

@Momopera This is not for Scotto's voice which was lovely and lyrical once upon a time.. This stuff put a wobble in it.
kgarmaker123 1 year ago
Why would she decide to sing this? And Norma...and Anna Bolena...really not good. She should have stuck with lyrical and lighter stuff.

ok, I don't agree with you... I prefer Scotto to Callas, however I respect an artist like Callas.

Where's the cabaletta? It's like being at the fairground without going on the rollercoaster.

I couldn't make a video longer than 10 minutes. I've put the cabaletta in the other video which now is attached as a video response.

Scotto makes a great recording of Abigaille; as far as I know, she didn't perform it on stage due to the difficulty of the rol.

The best Abigaile I´ve ever heard.
