  • Don't let these people fool you. AA does not work. It's a religious cult that uses fear and manipulation to recruit new members. The drop-out rate within the first year is 95%. The whole thing is a crock of shit.

  • @SToutreach haha, yeah right, it's a spiritual program of recovery and WORKS if you are willing and ready to stop drinking. Drop outs are people who aren't done with alcohol. They haven't hit bottom yet.

  • @SToutreach That's right. AA is based on faith healing. That's why it doesn't work for most people.

  • @ndrthrdr1

Alcoholics anonymous is not a program based on faith healing. It is a spiritual program based on honest, growth and a belief that we cant do it alone. To say its based on faith healing would be like saying we believe God will heal us so then we dont take any firther steps (no drs or therapists) and that simply isnt true.

The only requirement to be a member of AA is to have a desire to stop drinking, plain and simple.

  • @SToutreach

That crock of shit helped to save my life. What works better than AA to treat addiction? Treatment? Therapy? When someone goes to treatment they send you to AA. Most therapists will do the same thing.

People that say its a religious cult either are ignorant or are actively drinking alcoholics.

Have you actually ever been to an AA meeting? or are you just talking out of your ass? Understand that when you bad mouth something you very well may be hurting someones chances for recovery

  • My mummy went to AA and came out gay...

  • aa is a joke, a bunch of morons sitting at a church with nothing to do with their lives

  • AA is there for those people who want it, not for the one's who need it. It's been 20 years now since I've had a drink or a drug. Alcoholism will kill, if left untreated. It's not about just not drinking. It's about how we think. How to be a better person, and just do the next right thing. For those that can stay sober without the help of the fellowship, my hat is off to you. For those that can't, give AA a chance. If it works for you be thankful. And if it doesn't, try something else. Anything

  • I was in AA for 2 years. Screwed me up more than the booze did. Its a cult. I'm 3 years sober today & I did it without a higher power.

  • I'm in AA and LOVE it.

And I'm thrilled that you're sober 37 months now.

BTW, the cult thing? We laugh at that!Cults of the modern day are usually about money or power Aint nobody gettin rich in AA, brother, and no one'sin charge.

    Here's wishing you continued success.

  • i feel sorry for the ones who dont get it but thats ok that u dont get it, why judge those who do?

  • Defenders of aa regularly accuse people who criticise or reject it of "not getting it". I fully understand the nature of aa and thoroughly despise it. So do countless others exposed to this contempible and stupid "recovery" cult. Most people who run into problems with alcohol overcome the problem and move on. AA true believers are the exception. They remain fixated on this problem for life.

  • Alcoholics Anonymous should be destroyed

  • FUCK AA!!!

  • "you dont have to be an alcoholic to go to an AA meeting" Once there they will convince you you ARE, and the only alternatives to meetings are jails, institutions and death. They also claim not to advertise. AA only works for those who were going to stop anyway, and is a death cult. THESE PEOPLE ARE SCUM AND NEED TO BE STOPPED.

  • My sister will have celebrated an 8-year cake a day after this post.

  • AA can only help normal alcoholics not Special and different ones

  • @opendtuning I appreciate your humor but not sure others will get it. Rock on!

  • hi there G'day...simple equation, Typical alcoholic = blames everybody else. Never takes responsibily for themselves = blames AA = going to drink yourself to Mortem!!! now that is a no brainer...

  • I'm a typical alky. I take full responsibility for my drinking and my negative actions. I have tried to make amends for those actions where possible. I know a LOT of other alkys in SoCal and they practice AA exactly the same. Sorry your experience is different. Come on out here!

  • contempt prior to investigation is a good alcoholic character flaw where using a little common sense could get someone along way but common sense is not so common these days...in AA there is a way round most alcoholic mental blocks and the skill of taking what you want and leaving the rest is essential...

  • AA is a society of X drunks trying the best they can to stay sober one day at a time but sometimes the odd idiot is available at times to hurt and frustrate people but it is a skill of seeing past the odd troublemaker and seeing the true wonder that is on offer and life is what "I" make it...

  • if I let other people have the power over me and continue to take their moral inventory then the cycle continues and Iam consumed with anger which is not very nice...so today I break the cycle and stop blaming and take responsibilty for "Me" and my actions, as buddhists say "If Iam pointing the finger, then there is three pointing back at me".

  • It works when ya work it. Don't drink, go to meetings, read the big book. It's worked for me for 9yrs now. Sure it's easy for the critics to say an alcoholic is a weak individual with no willpower and A.A. is just a cult, but for me it is a solution. Like my sponsor told me, "Some must die, so that others may live." Which side of the fence do you reside on?

  • AA screwed up my drinking!

  • "Alcoholics Anonymous. It works."

We just can't prove it & a bulk of published studies show otherwise.

We do answer phones, though - where we direct you to meetings. There, we browbeat you with god, your own lack of self-worth, & your need to rely on us for everything in your newly 'sober' life. Forever.

We work the hell out of that.

  • @notspeedy0314

    It worked for me! :)

I count, so theres your proof.

And I know hundreds of other people it worked for too.

I have never been browbeaten with god in AA, and today I have more self-worth and confidence than I have ever had. I do not rely on AA, I have recovered from Alcoholism, AA relys on me to help the still suffering alcoholic and I will happily help anyone else - free of charge - to get free from alcoholism. Thats "How It Works" have a nice day :)

  • @Reddlyon wow youre the first person outside of my home group i think ive ever heard say the word Recovered! Thank you that kind of lifted me up a little bit

  • @Reddlyon

    "It worked for me!"

    LIAR!!!

  • @Hammersley1967 why would I lie about it? I'm not a sociopath! :)

  • @Reddlyon

    "I'm not a sociopath"

    LIAR!!!

  • @Hammersley1967 haha, whatever man.

  • @Reddlyon

    Genetically engineered gay babies...

    For it or against it?

  • @Hammersley1967 I'm not sure man. Half of my family are gay! and I love them with all of my heart. I don't think being gay is un-natural (unlike the dalai lama & and the pope) I dont think anyone would make genetically engineered babies - but ask me when they do - otherwise my opinion would be based on an experience I have never had. What about you? for or against?

  • attraction rather than promotion

  • They didn't get my 90 dollars in 90 days.

  • unfortunately, it does not work

it harms more than it helps

  • Bullshit.

It helps a lot of people, of course not everyone.

But it does not make any harm to anyone.

    I haven't taken a drink for 585 days today.

  • good for you dude. i had 4 months yesterday
