@tomtrh I actually did tape several matches back in the 1980s but because the cost of the tapes beck then was like $20 a tape I reused the tapes and taped over the matches, this was one of the few matches I didn't tape over. Most of the matches I have I got from other collectors.
Stan Hansen was a great wrestler. I read someplace that his shots were so stiff because he couldn't see well and couldn't pull punches and make them look believable. At any rate, he was fun to watch.
Actually, that would have been a great idea-everyone in the business had good things to say about Greg...But as a wrestler, in my opinion, he helped to sink the AWA ahead of time. Sure, Vince was raiding talent by 1984, but a lot of fans couldn't take seeing skinny, no muscle toned Greg beating The Road Warriors. The nepotism was too obvious for most.
Wow, not much...This, I believe, is a few months before he won the AWA world title from Rick Martel. No one at that time could handle Hansen. Martel was solid, sort of a poor man's Rick Steamboat. The Road Warriors left around this time, they had turned face...Sgt. Slaughter was a popular face, but his in-ring work was already getting rough...Other faces at this time in that area were Hennig, Scott Hall, Midnite Rockers (Sean Michaels, Janetty). And "The Nepotist" Greg Gagne (my nickname for him
Kinda sad. I think Stan Hansen was a super strong heel, no doubt about that. But without an equally strong face, then what's the point? They say Greg Gagne had a decent mind for the business, but as a wrestler? Maybe Verne should have turned the reins over to him and just trained wrestlers.
Yeah, they just kept on sinking and sinking. That's too bad. I would have loved to have seen the AWA come out of that slump and survive.. I would like to think that wrestling would have been in better shape than it is now.
this is normal hansen wrestling for me.just his style.

Interesting to see the banner run across the bottom saying that the WWF would be starting on the channel the next week.

Awesome. Love squashes. The stiffer the better.

Kevin Kelly is one reason the AWA was dull and BORING at times. Mr. Kelly is stiff and a very bad wrestler. WWF(E) sucks and always will Suck.

Kevin Kelly could testify to just how stiff Hanson was in the ring. He got his nose broke in this match.

I never could figure out why the NWA never let him run with the ball. Maybe because he was so unpredictable.

The fact that Nick Bockwinkel had just turned face said a lot about the face situation in the AWA at that time.
