The pope is the beast of Rev13 and the vatican is the harlot church of Rev17. The pope changed the sabbath day to sunday a pagan satanic day,he gave orders to torture and kill the true christians in the dark ages 50 million in total,he called himself JESUS SUBSTITUE vicarus filii dei which is what the prophet daniel said the anti christ would dare to claim about himself. Rev17 says the harlot church sits with the anti christ on the city which lays on seven hills ROME. Put it together JESUSLOVESU
Peter in Rome: 1 Peter 5:13 (Babylon stands for Rome); Clement of Rome cites Peter and Paul’s Martyrdom – before 105 AD; Ingatius, Letter to the Romans – 117 AD; Irenaeus, Against Heresies, 3:3:2 - before 200 AD
I need to correct my post below this one. Jesus Christ is The ROCK. ".....O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14. He is the Rock of our Salvation. Psalm 95:1 Jesus is building HIS Church upon HIMSELF - NOT Peter. Jesus Christ is the ALMIGHTY. Revelation 1:7-8. Thanks again, Blaze25z.
Jude states in v1 that he is the BROTHER OF JAMES. There is only one James that has a brother named Judas (Jude): Matthew 13:53-58. You are being deceived & that's what you & others get when you REFUSE to read the Bible.
ALL ROADS LEAD TO JESUS CHIRST!!!! To Heaven for Eternity or to JUDGMENT & the LAKE OF FIRE for Eternity........Any way you slice it, you're going to see God Almighty. He Created ALL Human Beings & You ARE going to stand before Him one of these days. REWARDS or FIRE - Your Life, Your Choice -One day it will be TOOOOOOO Late to Change your mind, your fate will be sealed. And remember, IF you see the ANTICHRIST, you MISSED Jesus Christ. TURN AWAY from your sin, get out of it! Repent!
@JesusHoldMyHand..... I was a Protestant Fundamentalist but I realized how hateful they were by the way they treated other Christians and also people who struggle with sin. If you have read my previous posts I studied theology at an Anabaptist Bible College. There I became interested in Church history and started my quest to find historic Biblical Christianity. I found it in the Catholic Church after years of struggle to give up the man made traditions of the Fundamentalist Protestants.
I have listened to MacArthur for over thirty years. A close relative of mine worked for him for several decades back in his early days. As I listen to him I hear a lot of anger. I sense a rebelious spirit. He seems to recognize no authority but yet he demands people submit to his views regardless if they are representative of Historic Christianity or not. I see anger, rebellion, and of course a lot of pride. He alone is right in his view...all of the other billions of Christians are wrong.
@prairiemark If you've listened to John MacArthur for OVER THIRTY YEARS, why are you still a Catholic? I sure wouldn't listen to the pope for 30 years. Choose Today Whom You Will Serve....As For Me And My House, We Will Serve The Lord. Joshua 24 (Paraphrased). You will one day stand before the Creator of the Universe & answer His Questions. You are going to have an awful time trying to explain to Him why YOU continued in your ungodly worship and WOULDN'T listen or follow His WORD!!! PRIDE!
@davidthomasmorton Many gullible people treat MacArthur as a pope.......even give him more authority than the pope. MacArthur interprets the Bible for his followers and in many cases the followers follow him when he is wrong.
Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James: Jude1 - Children of Mary & Joseph: Simon, Joseph, James & Judas + daughters: Matthew 13:53-58; Mark 6:1-6; Luke 18:19-21; John 2:11-12; John 7:1-5 (His OWN brothers didn't believe Him); Acts 1:14; Galatians 1:18-24 (Paul met Peter, stayed with him awhile, then saw James, The Lord's Brother). Guess you aren't one of the Lord' Sheep. Too Bad.....So Sad..... I'll pray for you, again & again & again
@JesusHoldMyHand1 The terms brother and bretheren have flexible meanings in the orginal language. If you dont like Catholics.....read what Calvin,Zwingli, or Wesley said regarding those passages.
It's very ironic that you DENY the very Words of God, but will defend paganim, idolatry. Everything I have said, I gave you Scripture for, but you REFUSE to read the Bible. It is you that is lacking knowledge of Almighty God (which is JESUS CHRIST - Titus 2:13 & Revelation 1:7-8). Now, let's see you deny that!!!
@prairiemark If you were paying attention, and were to have listened to other teachings of Dr. MacArthur over the years, you would know this message is just a very brief overview of certain beliefs of Roman Catholic teaching, ending with certain conclusions based on Scripture. Pastor MacArthur used irony and sarcasm at various points during this message for impact. This message is *not* an indepth study of Roman Catholic teaching by any means.
@Blaze25z I have listened to literally hundreds of hours of MacArthurs tapes over many years. I have a humber of his books in my library. He is caustic, sarcastic, and intellectually dishonest when he deals with Christian traditions other than his own.He often defines committed Christians out of the Kingdom. Noted theologians like Clark Pinnock and Chuck Colson regard him as cultic after working with him.
The trouble with some people is they "think" they know something, but are wrong. Galatians 1:18-19...Paul met Peter and James, the Lord's Brother....how much more clearer can that be???? Mary & Joseph were engaged BEFORE she was choosen by the Father to bring forth Christ. Joseph did not have sex with her UNTIL the baby was born!! Matthew 1:22-25
@JesusHoldMyHand1 please read the protestant reformer Calvins explaination of these passages. I do not know the orginal languages, but the terms Brother or Bretheren were flexible in Greek and could mean cousins or spiritual brothers. And in a similar way saying Mary did not have sex before she was had Jesus in no way implies she did afterward. In greek, it leaves it neutral and unconclusive, unlike what we would understand in English....I am told. So many protestants believed in PV
@prairiemark They were NOT spritural brothers. Mary & Joseph had 4 Sons - James, Judas, Simon & Joseph & SISTERS!!!! You are a denier of the Word of God, a Mary worshiper, a pagan, an idolator, and blasphmeous. You are being DECEIVED and trying to deceive others. Too bad you think Mary was "a cold fish", AFTER she and Joseph got married. You're wrong.....she was a loving WIFE & MOTHER to ALL her Children.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 It is not me you are in disagreement with.It is esteemed scholars throughout the history of Christs Church.Luther knew much of the Bible by heart. I hold a high esteem for the Sacred Word and spent years studying it both in and acedemic setting (Baptist/Mennonite Bible college and later a Christian liberal arts college).I read the Bible several times a week. You simply cannot say I deny the Bible or dont read it without committing grevious sin.Theology doesnt center around you.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Biblical support for your position is lacking. And.....again...these are not my positions. They are those that have been held by Chistian leaders both Catholic and Protestant for two thousand years....and by the vast majority of Christian believers. Perhaps you are the one who is out in left field. If you dont care about scholarship how do you deal with the Biblical command to study to show yourself approved, a workman that needs not to be ashamed?
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Some of your posts are real head scratchers. Do you think persons skilled in honest hermeneutics would accuse the Elders in Rev 5:8 of Idolatry or Necormancy when they bring the saints prayers to God as you do?? And where do you get the Queen of Heaven in the verses you sited? Perhaps you should look at Rev 12.
@prairiemark All you have to do is READ the Bible. Leave the scholars alone. Most of what they say is THEIR OWN OPINION. Caustic, sarcastic & intellectually dishonest????? He uses the Bible, too. It's very clear to see that you DON'T have the Holy Spirit with you - denying God's Word, like you do.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Anyone can read a translation of the Bible and have and opinnion. If you dont study and base your beliefs on scholorship and truth, you end up decieved. I know protestants say all you need is the Bible and anyone can read the Bible and get Gods message with no study, no knowlege of orignal language or historic understanding of the Bible. That is why there hundreds of denominations and sects who Believe in Sola Scriptura......and all say they are right!
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Fundamentalists disagree on so many things. They fight over their diverse doctrinal positions all the time. They split, they divide into sects and subsects. They accuse each other of being tools of the devil. But one thing they agree on....Catholics are to be hated.....they dont deserve to be treated honestly, and it is OK to lie about them. I believe the Savior cries when he sees attitudes like this. Eventually I think his anger will be kindled as well.
@prairiemark Let's get two things straight. I am not a Fundamentalist & I do NOT hate Catholics, Athiests, Satanists, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, Apostate Christians or anyone from TBN or any organization that is leading people straight to Hell. I look around me & I see millions of people who recite repetitous praryers (many to DEAD people), involve themselves in rituals that are Godless and an abomination to the Lord. You and others have had you questions answered, but you REJECT God's Word.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 By you posts we can conclude you are a Protestant Fundamentalist of some kind, both by your doctrines and by your hateful and prideful attitude. You are a cultural and theological fundamentalists. God hate both and you need to reconsider your positions.
@prairiemark Orly? What a shame you are defending pagan practices & rituals. Have you been Baptized or just sprinkled with a little water, as an infant? Babies are NOT accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior, nor have they ever sinned. Those babies, sometime in their lifetime, have to ask Jesus to forgive them, Repent, be Baptized (complete immersion). No one is "born into Christ" when they were sprinkled.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Actually I was baptized by immersion by a Baptist preacher when I was 25. But the mode of baptism is not important. Sprinkling, pouring, or immersion are all recognized ......since Biblical times. And yes.....infant baptism is Biblical. Look at all the intances of household baptisms in the Bible, Look at the early church practices...none of the early church fathers prohibited infant baptism except Tertulian who was a heretic.Baptism is the NT version of Circumcision
@prairiemark The method of Baptism is VERY important. Sprinkling is NOT Baptism. Romans 6:3-4; Colossians 2:12; 1Peter 3:21. So you see, you can NOT be buried WITH Christ, then raised WITH Him when you're sprinkled
@JesusHoldMyHand1 I used to believe like you do.It is true that immersion may be a better picture of being buried with Christ and raised to newness of life. But generically Baptism means washing and there are many examples of it in both the O.T. and N.T Look up BAP and see all the examples in the old testament related to ritual washings and purificataions. Also look at the fist century literature telling how Apostolic Era Christians were Baptized. Ist century gravestones show infant Baptism.
@prairiemark We don't KNOW the time when Jesus comes in the Rapture. We do KNOW when He comes at the 2nd Coming. Daniel 12:11. Now, Jesus said He's going to cut the # of day short or no flesh would be saved. (alive). The 2 Witnesses (1st half of GT) preach for 1,260 days, then the antichrist takes over. That's Daniel 9:27 & 12:11. At the same time the Woman of Revelation 12 (ISRAEL) offspring, Jews, are fleeing (Matthew 24) where they will be taken care for the remainder of the GT. BIBLE
@JesusHoldMyHand1 The jigsaw puzzle mode of interpretting prophecy doesnt work very well for me. We can jump from book to book and grab a verse and fit it all together any way we please. That is what Darby did back in the 1820s when he was inventing what is now considered Dispensationalism. His views gotten partly from a schizophrenic womans dreams were used by Schofield in the Schofield reference Bible...and later in the Bible college movement. What you follow is a recently invented system
@prairiemark The Bible INTERPRETS ITSELF. Since you don't want to Read it, I now KNOW why you DON'T understand. You want #1, #2, #3 in order - but God didn't make it that easy. He wants you to STUDY it.......if you don't want to read the Scriptures I gave you, you're only keeping yourself in darkness. Lack of Knowledge.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 I read the Bible regularly. I have studied it in college and in Bible studies. I have memorized large amounts of scripture....At one time I could recite the Book of James. I used to be in a Navigators Bible memorization program. In fact I am three credits short of a major in Biblical Studies.....if I desired the degree I could have taken one more class and had a B.S. in it. Since college I have continued to read the Bible and study it in a systematic way. You are wrong.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Most protestants are told what the Bible means....for example you cannot understand that "brethern" in Hebrew and Greek culture and does not always mean blood brothers......There is a certain reflexive interpretation from years of indoctrination and someone who learns otherwise is treated with contempt and discust and labeled as "ignorant." Your approach is wrong.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 James introduced himself as James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ......no mention of any relationship to Christ in his introduction. . There were many James in the Bible.....two of the Lords Disciples were named James....and several other James mentioned in the Bible. Calvin thought it was james the lesser....a relative of the Lord....which is consistant with the Galatians reference to Jesus having some kin named James.
@prairiemark Sorry guy....you just dont want to communicate. I didnt say that Mary was a Cold Fish...those were your words. I rebuke you for adding to the Bible. Mary I am sure was a loving wife...was a perpetual virgin.
@prairiemark What is so hard for you to understand? ".....Joseph took Mary as his WIFE, But he had NO union with her until the baby was born." Matthew 1:24-25 parphrased. Now, I understand that you want to make Mary a "cold fish", but she LOVED her husband & her other sons, Joseph, Simon, James & Judas & her daughters. Matthew 13:55-58 I'm done now. Good Bye.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Perhaps I am the one with the understanding and you are the one who is struggling ....likely from brainwashing that allows no honest look at the meaning of the text.If you examine the meaning of the phrase.."Had no union with her until the baby was born."....in Greek there is no implication that it occured afterwards.....it is neutral as to if it occured or not....it is not implied by the meaning of the words. You are the one who said she was a cold fish....shameful.
Thank you John for you sound biblical teaching. It is always good to hear the refreshing words of truth. The Catholic church is the whore of babylon and her judgement is coming (Rev ch 17)
@Blaze25z u should disallow comments and likes on your video man. The message alone should have enough power to change a heathen. it shouldnt require any other input as seen from the comments to validate or invalidate you know? im saying this for the sake of those who would love to hear the truth but could be swayed by people who are not trying to hear the message. these comments are noise sir. Let God's light shine by itself and reveal foolery.
@festburn Thanks for your input. I promote a healthy enchange of dialog on these videos, and encourage it. Don`t be afraid of the false comments or ideas presented here, God`s truth reigns supreme, His children hear His voice when His truth is spoken, and will not be led astray by another. Have faith in the preserving power of God.
I even just got done looking into"Rite of Ordination of a Priest"& it dose not sound like what this guy is saying it is...I dunno why these ppl do this but we pray for them ..Bible says to Obey elders..Heb13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to them; for they are keeping watch over your souls, as men who will have to give account. Let them do this joyfully, and not sadly, for that would be of no advantage to you
I researched what he said about the The Form of the Oath taken by Roman Catholic Bishops... This man is incorrect .. Research everything these guys say, If they say the Catholics say it ask the Catholics & see if we do .. No there is a web site that agrees with this guy but Its not from the Catholics..God bless
Everyone should read the BIBLE. It is the only infallible, God-breathed, Word of God. It is the only Book you need to read. It has more truth in it than all the books in the world combined. Make the Bible your main source of information on God, sin, Heaven, Hell, forgiveness, repentance, judgments, salvation & and what is expected of all Christians. The Bible is God's Book of Knowledge to us, to inform, teach, reprimand. It's our roadmap for life, our families & to know the One True God.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 --Even thought the Bible is true, how do you account for the fact that all christians that share your sentiment are coming to wildly different conclusions reguarding the things you listed?
@AtomicMonster559 The same way when someone says, "Man, don't take those drugs. They can kill you or you'll end up in prison." "I know I'm only 15 but I want a baby anyway. I'll be a good Mother. All I want is a baby." Many people don't study the Bible. They read a few verses or chapters and base their conclusion on that. Many don't read the Bible at all. Someone tells them something, which could be wrong or not verified by other Scripture, but they end up believing it. Compare verses
@JesusHoldMyHand1 the Bible "is the only Book you need to read." I used to wonder why Biblical literalists are less educated and have a lower I.Q. than the other Christians. I am beginning to understand why. They cut themselves off from education, books and learning that would help them understand the Bible and the world.
@prairiemark I have read many books in my lifetime, but I many Christian Books have many mistakes & misinformation in them. The Catholic literature, however, is absolutely BLASPHEMOUS, FULL OF IDOLATRY & PAGANISM. I Trust the Book the Lord Breathed upon. The Holy Bible is His Word to His Church, Believers & those who Love Him. Truth is the Name of the Game, no errors in it at all. JESUS CHRIST IS LORD.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 If you read the Bible you have read another piece of Catholic literature. Catholic scribes painsakingly and accurately copied and preserved the manuscripts. The cannon of scripture arose in the Catholic church as early Christian literature was sorted through and considered for inclusion in Gods Sacred scripture. Even Luther gives credit for the Catholic Church for bringing us the Bible...even though he questioned many of the books in the Bible.....2 Peter, Jude, James, Rev
@prairiemark The Catholic Organization (Please don't insult Christ by saying "Church") is apostate, pagan, satanic, sinful organization. I suggest you watch ALL of this series. Luther never did any such thing. Like I said, watch ALL of this series. Bloody Mary was under in influence of the pope and together they murdered many Christians. You are deceived.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 I think you will find comments on most of the series. MacArthur shows his ignorance of Catholic teaching in almost all the series. And I am very much aware of Luthers views on scripture. I studied him for years. In Luthers translation of the Bible he grouped books he didnt like at the end of the OT and the NT. He didnt like the aprocraphal books and grouped them at the end of the O.T. He didnt like Hebrews, James,Jude and Revelation and he put them at the end of NT
@prairiemark Luther said James "was not up to the task" of writing the book of James...although he acknowledged it had much good in it. Luther said it was impossible to harmonize Paul and James.....that they were in direct contradiction to each other. Luther believed the numbers of people in the Exodus was exagerated in the OT as was the number of those killed in battles..... Please do some research before you flatly deny what Luther taught.
@prairiemark Comments don't mean that you listened to the video. And what James would that be? We believe that James & Jude were flesh & blood half-brothers of Jesus Christ (2 of Mary & Joseph's sons). You can read about them in Matthew 13:53-58; Mark 6:1-6; Luke 8:19-21; John 7:1-5; Acts 1:12-14 & Galatians 1:18-19. We do know that James was the Pastor of the Christian Church in Jerusalem. Most of Jesus' brothers & sisters didn't believe that Jesus was God until AFTER His Resurrection.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Ok.....you dont have to believe I listened to them...I am not sure why you have the attitude you do. Obviously I was talking about the writer of the Book of James...that is the context of my comments regarding Luther saying James Contradicted the Pauline epistles. You might read the church fathers on the "brothers" of Jesus.....or the reformers.....many of them believed in the Perpetual Virginity of Mary...Calvin, Zwingli, even John and Charles Wesley and many others
@prairiemark You did NOT time to read the Scriptures I gave you. James, Jesus' half-brother WROTE the Book of James & His Brother JUDAS (Jude) wrote the Book of JUDE.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Sorry guy.....I have hashed these issues out over many years. Did you take time to read the historic teaching of the perpetual virginity of Mary.....by Christians both Catholic and protestant ? When it comes to a thoughtful Catholic.......fundamentalist "gotcha" theology doesnt work.....in fact it doesnt work with anyone.
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Why do you think I am a tool of Satan? Because I know protestant scholars like Calvin, Luther and zwingli believed in Marys Perpetual Virginity? This information is not often taught in Protestant churches. Luther even believed in the Imacculate Conception. Were Calvin,Luther, Zwingli and Wesley tools of satan too?
we Catholics are praying for you John MacArthur as well as the flock you preach over(the humor in your sermon was un-called for), for we are all sinners, May God in Heaven have mercy on all of us, there is only one way to the Father and its through Our Lord Jesus Christ...as a devout Catholic, i say to all, seek Him now while He can be found, for there will come a time when it will be too late.
@lightzZz10 I'm actually very happy to see you post that the only way to the Father is through Our Lord, Jesus Christ. That is ultimately the truth. That is actually what MacArthur is preaching.
@lightzZz10 Yes, we are all sinners and in need of God's mercy and Grace. But, as long as you stay within a heretical church, you will perish with that church unless you come up out of her: The GREAT WHORE of Babylon. The city which sits on seven Hills..........The Roman Church! Daniel 7 and Revelation 17-22.
@beautifulcandice601 The Roman Church is the Scarlet Woman. The GREAT WHORE of Babylon who sits on a throne of seven hills..........Daniel 7, Revelation 17-22,
@popedusty As usual double standards coming from a Roman catholic. Practice what you preach on " logically fallacious style of argument " . My post were simple and right to the point. If one is dishonest I back it up. I quoted Cajetan himself with what he said. You can't get around his plain and simple words. Oh I forgot. Rome tells you what to believe without private judgement.
@popedusty Catholic scholar Cajetan said " Here we close our commentaries on the historical books of the Old Testament. For the rest ( that is, Judith, Tobit, and the books of Maccabees ) are counted by St Jerome out of the canonical books, and are placed amongst the Apocrypha, along with Wisdom and Ecclesiasticus, as is plain from the Prologus Galeatus.
@NY1054Cool Nor be thou disturbed, like a raw scholar, if thou shouldest find anywhere, either in the sacred councils or the sacred doctors, these books reckoned as canonical. For the words as well of councils as of doctors are to be reduced to the correction of Jerome.
@NY1054Cool Now, according to his judgment, in the epistle to the bishops Chromatius and Heliodorus, these books (and any other like books in the canon of the bible) are not canonical, that is, not in the nature of a rule for confirming matters of faith. Yet, they may be called canonical, that is, in the nature of a rule for the edification of the faithful, as being received and authorised in the canon of the bible for that purpose.
@NY1054Cool By the help of this distinction thou mayest see thy way clearly through that which Augustine says, and what is written in the provincial council of Carthage " ( Commentary on all the Authentic Historical Books of the Old Testament, In ult. Cap., Esther. Taken from A Disputation on Holy Scripture by William Whitaker (Cambridge: University, 1849), p. 48. )
Usual anti catholic tripe from some fundie who would be likely to fly planes into tall buildings, a God of hate is spewing forth from this crap. Probably end up being blocked when they can't answer a question
@popedusty It was you who was with dishonesty and revisionism at that. I guess even if I quote in full you would go in to denial mode as almost all Roman Catholics do when faced with the idea of a church father going againist one of their pet theories.
@popedusty That is a false claim. One does not need to be in communion in order to be a valid catholic church outside of them. They term Catholic Church as used in the early church never denoted what you are saying to me. Catholic Church refers to all those who have embraced the Lord Jesus Christ in the Gospel throughout the world.
@popedusty What I am saying is the " traditions " Paul preached orally and in His letter were the same content in teaching which is the Gospel. Apostolic tradition orally taught that are essential for the Christian faith are presently located in the New Testament. Thus any claim to apostolic tradition must be shown from Scripture.
@popedusty RCC did hijacked it when it left the catholic church in 1054ad. They were excommunicated by EO at that time. Contrary to the it's claims those churches which preach the Gospel and practice water baptism and the Lord's Supper and have church government are valid visible churches and rightly called " catholic church " as it was taught in the early church. And never depended on being in communion with the papacy. Roman Catholic was not founded in Acts 2. RCC is post 1054ad
@popedusty No you did not. You ignore what he specifically wrote. I dont depend on King nor Webster. It is something I saw from my own reading of the church fathers long before I ever knew of their books. Cajetan speaks for him in what he wrote. He was very clear. You cant point to any ad hom by me at all. If you want to point fingers I can point them back at you. Semi Scholarship is from the RCC end when they reject the fathers when it goes againist them. :(
@popedusty ALL of the traditions of the RCC came from Babylon, not from the Hebrew tradition. Christmas, Easter, Mother of God worship, Fish Hats for the priests, baptism by sprinkling, eating little wafers, the Calendar, Shamash crosses on the vestments, calling priest father, celebit priests, Vestal virgins, even the title Pontifex Maximus came from Babylon. That's why the RCC is called Babylon the Great, mother of Harlots.
@popedusty The current Popes since 1800 or thereabouts, are all puppets of the Black Pope. And through the Secret Societies, the Black Pope still is the final authority of kings, princes, presidents, and oligarch for the entire planet. Even Sadam Hussain was a 33rd degree Freemason. As was Fidel Castro, Hitler, Mussolini, FDR. Name a leader on the planet, and he or she is a high level leader in a Secret Society. Bushs were Skull and Bones, a Jesuit logo.
The word " catholic church " in the early church refered to all belivers in Jesus Christ regardless of location. Sadly the RCC has tried to hijack that term for itself.
@pharmfarm59538 That is such a false claim. Present day Roman Catholicism is post 1054ad when it left the catholic church in it's schism with Eastern Orthodox. For the record there was no episcopacy in Rome until after 140ad. That is the historical record. And the Bishop of Rome was never head of the entire visible church on the earth. The RCC claims is a hard thing to sell to Eastern Orthodox and Protestants who studied church history.
@pharmfarm59538 Well I am one who wont be. I am too informed on the church fathers to already know they dont believe or teach the same exact things as present day Roman Catholicism on it's distinctive teachings. Conversions goes both ways . Always remember that. Many are uninformed on the doctrinal issues involved and leave for the wrong reasons. I seen this on both sides of the issue.
@popedusty The inquistion was a horrible event. And it was suppported by various popes who were evil. But what can be questioned is the exact number of those killed in it. To be fair some strains of the Reformers did that same thing towards Roman Catholics in england. Whoever got in power there did killed. So both were really guilty of horrible things. Seperation of church and government is a blessing to prevent things like that.
@NY1054Cool The protestant reformation did not seperate church and state as evidenced by Calvin and the city fathers of Geneva executing the heretic Micheal Servantes for unorthodox views of the trinity. In protestant Geneva, heresy was a civil crime and demanded a civil penalty up to including death. Ditto with the Salem witch trials.
@pharmfarm59538 I never claimed it did. We have that blessing over in the United States. It was the government itself that killed that guy and not Calvin. He did not have that power or authority. The RCC was to kill Servantes and Calvin. All your comments do is support the reasons why a seperation of church and government is important. The RCC and some strains of Protestant cause physical harm on those who they claim are heretics.
@NY1054Cool Well Calvin was present at the burning of Sevantes.....there is no record he opposed it. Eye witness accounts said Calvin laughed when Sevantes said he believed in Christ was the Son of the Eternal God and not the Eternal Son of God ...just before he died. The church authority and civil authority was intertwined in Geneva at that time. Heresy was a civil offence like disturbing the peace or insurrection. I would feel a lot better about it if there was a record Calvin opposed it.
@pharmfarm59538 No I dont think he laughed. That was not a laughing matter at all. Sevantes denied the Trinity. He may have held to Arianism or a form of it. Calvin like all people have their faults. They were friends with each other and wrote one another debating.Sevantes himself tried to have Calvin killed too for claimed heresy. Be glad we dont live in those times and have freedom of religion. RCC and some Protestants did wrong in that.
@popedusty You provided zero examples of anything from the book. I really do not believe that you read it at all. What you did was look at so called reviews of it on catholic web sites and got second hand information. I asked for at least one example of what you claimed and got nothing.
@popedusty Eastern Orthodox do predate Roman Catholicism. They each excommunicated one another in 1054ad. Old Catholics and RCC split over Vatican I in 1870ad. Various rites within Roman Catholicism proves nothing to me. The Word Roman Catholic is decriptive of all churches in which are subjected to the authority of the Pope. Hence the term RCC is a proper title for them. My examples do match. It was Roman Catholicism that changed doctrinally.
@popedusty Hardly at all. The traditions taught orally by word of mouth and letter is the Gospel . They were the same message. And refers only to what Paul taught there. And nothing there of any unknown doctrines that cant be traced back to the apostle Paul or the apostles.
@popedusty Oh yes I can lay the Inquistions at the feet of the RCC and her Popes. The Popes have declared themselves to be GOD. And have the right to set up kings. So if they want to have that kind of power, then the blame belongs at the feet of the Pope. And those Heretics as you call them, were mostly people who read the Bible, And knew the Pope was the Little Horn of Daniel, and Head of the Beast Power of the Beast out of the Sea in Revelation.
@popedusty There was far more than just the Spanish Inquisition. The merciless hunt down of the Hugenots of France and the Waldensias from Switzerland and Germany were dredful. No the Catholic Church did not kill any of them. But the Catholic church set the laws in motion and tried them. They also sent troops to exceute massess of them. Under the protection of who ever the Holy Roman Emperor was at the time.
@popedusty On page 368 in Vol. 2 how was Cajetan distorted as an example for your claim ? Remember Cajetan was the one who questioned Luther and had the same OT Canon listing view. How was that decontextualized or misrepresented ? You can't provide any examples from it at all on what you claimed.
@NY1054Cool He was not distorted . His statements were very clear on it. He defended them as being read for edification and not as inspired Scripture. You were better off telling me that you disagree with him rather than face his clear comments on it supporting Jerome's understanding of the OT.
@popedusty King & Webster did not do what you claimed that they did. I find it over 95 % probable that you never read their 3 volume work and replied on second hand information from someone else. The standard arguments used by RCC apologist were dealt with and interacted. I own and read the Catechism and other books by the RCC. I am not seeing anything I never seen before. One thing I learned long ago was the church fathers did not hold to Roman Catholicism as taught today.
@popedusty What you need to read is Holy Scripture The Ground and Pillar of Our Faith three volumes by William Webster & David T. King. And read Disputation On Holy Scripture by William Whitaker. They deal extensively with each and every false argument presented by Roman Catholics on Scripture, tradition and the church fathers.
@popedusty What is rejected is unwritten doctrinal oral tradutions that can't be traced back to the apostles. The oral doctrinal traditions of the apostles are located in the New Testament. The context of the tradition by word and letter were the same by the apostle Paul. There is nothing there of unknown unwritten doctrinal tradtions. The traditions of 2 Thes 2:15 it the Gospel.
@popedusty You have revised history. The Old Testament predated the Christian church. And the early church had the apostles while the NT was being written. In the OT times they had the prophets until the OT was completed as well. There are no unwritten doctrinal oral traditions around today that can be traced back to the apostles. Since you deny new divine revelation you conceded the entire point. You are the one that needs to read the church fathers and other church history books. :)
@popedusty Scripture is given by inspiration of God. While no Bishops at church councils are " prophets " or " apostles " . What is rejected is unwritten tradition which can not be traced back to Jesus and the apostles. God created Scripture and not the church. Bad understanding you have. There are no new divine revelation being given today. Not unless you want to go the way of Mormonism, Adventist or Jehovah Wittnesses. No inspired prophets or apostles are around today.
@NY1054Cool The Bible was formed in the incubator of the Catholic Church.....even Luther admitted that. The Church chose which books to regard as authoritative and which to reject.
@pharmfarm59538 No. The Old Testament was written prior to the existance of the Christian church. The Word of God procedes the existance of the Church. It was once oral and is now written. God inspired each and every book of Scripture as he moved each author. The Church merely discovered what was Scripture. The early church had the OT Books written by either a prophet of God or one who had the prophetic gift or was a prophet and had the prophetic gift.
@NY1054Cool Now there is a scholarly statement for you..."the Old testament was written prior to the Christian church" It is hard to debate the obvious. However there were many documents...intertestamental and written during the Apostolic era by followers of Christ that did not make it into the Cannon of Scripture. Some of them read very much like cannonical books. If there were a large amount of Christian literature floating around and the Catholic church select..continued
@NY1054Cool If there was a large amount of Christian literature floating around and the Catholic Church "discovered" which of it was inspired.....then I guess they produced the Sacred Scriptures by selection. And don't tell me I am confused about Luther. I was a Lutheran for many years and read much of luthers writings. In spite of his antipathy for the Roman church he did give them credit for producing the Bible.
@pharmfarm59538 The RCC OT canon was defined and settled dogmatically in 1546ad. Luther's view of the catholic church is not the same as yours so dont use him when he disagrees with you. The Canon issue is a lost cause for Roman Catholicism historically speaking. The Catholic church does not equate what is Roman Catholicism. They are not one and the same. You seem unaware that Eastern Orthodox has a larger OT Canon than the RCC. Yet each claims to follow apostolic tradition on that.
@NY1054Cool You like so many Evangelicals speak with a superior condesending attitude. The apocraphal books are not reconized equally by all christians and not all recognize the same 6 or so that Jerome recognized and translated in the Vulgate. A good case can be made that the Catholic church was the Roman Catholic church before 200 A.D. Usually if you are using catholic to mean something other than the Roman Catholic church it is used with a small c,
@rldlol Which Catholic Church ? Roman Catholicism , Eastern Orthodox or Old Catholics ? The last time I checked the catholic church was never used to included only those of the Roman See.
@rldlol Truly, I have NEVER (I am not exaggerating) met a catholic that I could distinguish from any non believer as far as life style. They participate in sin just like the atheist and idolater. This system is perfect for producing such "Christians". Catholic don't know the bible b/c they are not taught it and they don't read it. This is STAGGERING and very sad.
@toddcruzaider I was a baptist for 40 years and finally determined that they could not be the true followers of Christ because of their pride and hateful attitudes. I find Godly, Biblical, truthseeking Christians within the Catholic Church. Their love and compassion to fellow Catholics and to those who have not came to understand the fullness of the gospel is unparralleled in protestant churches.
@pharmfarm59538 Roman Catholic does not make up the entire catholic church. The RCC itself has a very bloody history along with some strains of Protestantism over England and other places depending who got power in that land at any given moment. If you want to look at behavior to determine if a church is true or not you got some rotten fruit in child sex abuse scandels in the RCC with cover ups taking place. There are Roman Catholics who are as prideful and hateful as some protestants.
@NY1054Cool I was in a fundamentalist Bible Church when I was a kid. The pastor was known to be a sexual predator. When the parents went to the elders they sided with the pastor and he stayed for 3 more years. My sister and brother in law were sunday school teachers in a SBC church until last year. One of the pastors was arrested and plead guilty to sexual offences with jr high kids. The pastor was given a sabatical and then not brought back ...none of the dozens of victims were offered help.
@pharmfarm59538 Any bishop or priest that does sex abuse belongs in jail and not covered up by any church. My concern is the victums of such horrible things. They need our help and not bishops or priest who do those things. On this i play no favorites be it RCC or Protestant church that does it.
I read the Bible and I believe that the Catholics are Scriptural. Why should I accept John MacArthur's beliefs. He is placing himself as head of the church? Is he the new Pope?
John MacArthur makes some very bold statements about the Catholic Church. I don't believe him.
If the protestants believe in "scripture alone" as the source of authority, does that mean that John MacArthur has no authority? Why should I listen John MacArthur and to his interpretation of Scripture? What makes John MacArthur right? How do I know I can trust him?
@rldlol Protestants hold that Scripture is the only infallible rule of faith . It is supreme over church councils , elders/ bishops in the church and creeds of the church. Before making silly comments like you did at least make sure you know what the doctrine of Sola Scriptura teaches even if you disagree with it. Church councils, elders/bishops and creeds are viewed as a lesser authority but not infallible. They are to be tested by Scripture and subject to it.
@NY1054Cool The last evangelical church I was at rewrote the doctrinal statement about every 5 years. The elders had a new view on what Gods eternal truth was every few years. And each time it enhanced their power. Eventually they threw out the church constitution and declared themselves Gods conduit of truth and the congregation no longer had a vote on spiritual matters. The Apostles and Nicean creeds are still there presenting Gods truth in an understandable way.
@pharmfarm59538 a church that does that would cause me alerm. I would have to see what rewriting was done on it to get a good idea prior to making any conclusion. Sometimes it could be for clarification or could be something for the worst. The Church you speak of sounds like a cult rather than evangelical in all honesty. Its something informed Protestants would leave from.
@NY1054Cool It did not start out as a cult but as a Congregational Church that had strong biblical teaching. It grew and prospered with many changed lives for 60 years until the Billy Graham era when the dispensationalists took over.
@NY1054Cool If you look closely at protestant belief....they do believe in tradition as well as Bible as having authority. Some like the Anglicans will frankly admit it. Others like many of the Anabaptist sects cling to non-biblical traditions even though they claim the only submit to the Bible. Look at the history of dispensationalism....the kingdom interuption theory orignated from the dreams of a woman diagnosed as schizophrenic.Darby wrote down the dreams and Schofield popularized them
@pharmfarm59538 Protestants follow tradition but maintain it is below Scripture in authority. The problem is over unwritten tradition that can be traced back to the apostles. The anabaptist were alittle extreme and went beyond what normative Reformed Theology on the issue of tradition. Darby did not get his views from a crazy girl but rather from a study from Scripture as he said. Darby held to Sola Scripture and did not believe in present day prophets or weird things like that.
@NY1054Cool Please study Darbys teaching. A good source is Charles Bass "Backgrounds to Dispensationalsim" Bass quotes Darby's original works extensively. If you don't trust a presbyterian, then use the footnotes and go back to DarbYs orginal works. Darby claims to orginate the "Kingdom Interuption Theory" and got the idea from a schizophrenic woman who had dreams. That is a historical fact that most who follow the teaching do not know.
@rldlol It's doctrine of papal infalliblity is the most useless doctrine ever created. Since it was never used to dogmatically give the interpretation of the entire bible verse by verse for Roman Catholics. Hence it wont give it's people what it claims to have.

JesusHoldMyHand1 2 months ago

Perhaps you should look at Rev 12.
prairiemark 2 months ago
@prairiemark All you have to do is READ the Bible. Leave the scholars alone. Most of what they say is THEIR OWN OPINION. Caustic, sarcastic & intellectually dishonest????? He uses the Bible, too. It's very clear to see that you DON'T have the Holy Spirit with you - denying God's Word, like you do.

@JesusHoldMyHand1 Anyone can read a translation of the Bible and have and opinnion. If you dont study and base your beliefs on scholorship and truth, you end up decieved.

JesusHoldMyHand1 2 months ago
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Actually I was baptized by immersion by a Baptist preacher when I was 25. But the mode of baptism is not important. Sprinkling, pouring, or immersion are all recognized ......since Biblical times. And yes.....infant baptism is Biblical. Look at all the intances of household baptisms in the Bible, Look at the early church practices...none of the early church fathers prohibited infant baptism except Tertulian who was a heretic.Baptism is the NT version of Circumcision
prairiemark 2 months ago
@prairiemark The method of Baptism is VERY important. Sprinkling is NOT Baptism. Romans 6:3-4; Colossians 2:12; 1Peter 3:21. So you see, you can NOT be buried WITH Christ, then raised WITH Him when you're sprinkled
JesusHoldMyHand1 2 months ago

JesusHoldMyHand1 2 months ago
@JesusHoldMyHand1 I read the Bible regularly. I have studied it in college and in Bible studies. I have memorized large amounts of scripture....At one time I could recite the Book of James. I used to be in a Navigators Bible memorization program. In fact I am three credits short of a major in Biblical Studies.....if I desired the degree I could have taken one more class and had a B.S. in it. Since college I have continued to read the Bible and study it in a systematic way. You are wrong.
prairiemark 2 months ago

@prairiemark What is so hard for you to understand? ".....Joseph took Mary as his WIFE, But he had NO union with her until the baby was born." Matthew 1:24-25 parphrased. JesusHoldMyHand1 2 months ago

They cut themselves off from education, books and learning that would help them understand the Bible and the world.
prairiemark 3 months ago
@prairiemark I have read many books in my lifetime, but I many Christian Books have many mistakes & misinformation in them. The Catholic literature, however, is absolutely BLASPHEMOUS, FULL OF IDOLATRY & PAGANISM. I Trust the Book the Lord Breathed upon. The Holy Bible is His Word to His Church, Believers & those who Love Him. Truth is the Name of the Game, no errors in it at all. JESUS CHRIST IS LORD.
JesusHoldMyHand1 3 months ago
@JesusHoldMyHand1 If you read the Bible you have read another piece of Catholic literature. Catholic scribes painsakingly and accurately copied and preserved the manuscripts. The cannon of scripture arose in the Catholic church as early Christian literature was sorted through and considered for inclusion in Gods Sacred scripture. Even Luther gives credit for the Catholic Church for bringing us the Bible...even though he questioned many of the books in the Bible.....2 Peter, Jude, James, Rev
prairiemark 3 months ago
@prairiemark The Catholic Organization (Please don't insult Christ by saying "Church") is apostate, pagan, satanic, sinful organization. I suggest you watch ALL of this series. Luther never did any such thing. Like I said, watch ALL of this series. Bloody Mary was under in influence of the pope and together they murdered many Christians. You are deceived.
JesusHoldMyHand1 3 months ago
@JesusHoldMyHand1 I think you will find comments on most of the series. MacArthur shows his ignorance of Catholic teaching in almost all the series. And I am very much aware of Luthers views on scripture. I studied him for years. In Luthers translation of the Bible he grouped books he didnt like at the end of the OT and the NT. He didnt like the aprocraphal books and grouped them at the end of the O.T. He didnt like Hebrews, James,Jude and Revelation and he put them at the end of NT
prairiemark 3 months ago
@prairiemark Luther said James "was not up to the task" of writing the book of James...although he acknowledged it had much good in it. Luther said it was impossible to harmonize Paul and James.....that they were in direct contradiction to each other. Luther believed the numbers of people in the Exodus was exagerated in the OT as was the number of those killed in battles..... Please do some research before you flatly deny what Luther taught.
prairiemark 3 months ago
JesusHoldMyHand1 2 months ago
@JesusHoldMyHand1 Ok.....you dont have to believe I listened to them...I am not sure why you have the attitude you do. Obviously I was talking about the writer of the Book of James...that is the context of my comments regarding Luther saying James Contradicted the Pauline epistles. You might read the church fathers on the "brothers" of Jesus.....or the reformers.....many of them believed in the Perpetual Virginity of Mary...Calvin, Zwingli, even John and Charles Wesley and many others
prairiemark 2 months ago
@prairiemark You did NOT time to read the Scriptures I gave you. James, Jesus' half-brother WROTE the Book of James & His Brother JUDAS (Jude) wrote the Book of JUDE.

@JesusHoldMyHand1 Sorry guy.....I have hashed these issues out over many years.

@popedusty As usual double standards coming from a Roman catholic. Practice what you preach on " logically fallacious style of argument " . My post were simple and right to the point. If one is dishonest I back it up. I quoted Cajetan himself with what he said. You can't get around his plain and simple words. Oh I forgot. Rome tells you what to believe without private judgement.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty Catholic scholar Cajetan said " Here we close our commentaries on the historical books of the Old Testament. For the rest ( that is, Judith, Tobit, and the books of Maccabees ) are counted by St Jerome out of the canonical books, and are placed amongst the Apocrypha, along with Wisdom and Ecclesiasticus, as is plain from the Prologus Galeatus.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@NY1054Cool Nor be thou disturbed, like a raw scholar, if thou shouldest find anywhere, either in the sacred councils or the sacred doctors, these books reckoned as canonical. For the words as well of councils as of doctors are to be reduced to the correction of Jerome.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@NY1054Cool Now, according to his judgment, in the epistle to the bishops Chromatius and Heliodorus, these books (and any other like books in the canon of the bible) are not canonical, that is, not in the nature of a rule for confirming matters of faith. Yet, they may be called canonical, that is, in the nature of a rule for the edification of the faithful, as being received and authorised in the canon of the bible for that purpose.

NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty That is a false claim. One does not need to be in communion in order to be a valid catholic church outside of them. They term Catholic Church as used in the early church never denoted what you are saying to me. Catholic Church refers to all those who have embraced the Lord Jesus Christ in the Gospel throughout the world.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty What I am saying is the " traditions " Paul preached orally and in His letter were the same content in teaching which is the Gospel. Apostolic tradition orally taught that are essential for the Christian faith are presently located in the New Testament. Thus any claim to apostolic tradition must be shown from Scripture.

@popedusty I did read Cajetan way before 1992. Don't make unwarrented assumptions.

NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty No you did not. You ignore what he specifically wrote. I dont depend on King nor Webster.

For the record there was no episcopacy in Rome until after 140ad. That is the historical record. And the Bishop of Rome was never head of the entire visible church on the earth. The RCC claims is a hard thing to sell to Eastern Orthodox and Protestants who studied church history.

NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@NY1054Cool The protestant reformation did not seperate church and state as evidenced by Calvin and the city fathers of Geneva executing the heretic Micheal Servantes for unorthodox views of the trinity. In protestant Geneva, heresy was a civil crime and demanded a civil penalty up to including death. Ditto with the Salem witch trials.
pharmfarm59538 1 year ago
@pharmfarm59538 I never claimed it did. We have that blessing over in the United States. It was the government itself that killed that guy and not Calvin. He did not have that power or authority. The RCC was to kill Servantes and Calvin. All your comments do is support the reasons why a seperation of church and government is important. The RCC and some strains of Protestant cause physical harm on those who they claim are heretics.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@NY1054Cool Well Calvin was present at the burning of Sevantes.....there is no record he opposed it. Eye witness accounts said Calvin laughed when Sevantes said he believed in Christ was the Son of the Eternal God and not the Eternal Son of God ...just before he died. The church authority and civil authority was intertwined in Geneva at that time. Heresy was a civil offence like disturbing the peace or insurrection. I would feel a lot better about it if there was a record Calvin opposed it.
pharmfarm59538 1 year ago

NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty Eastern Orthodox do predate Roman Catholicism. They each excommunicated one another in 1054ad. Old Catholics and RCC split over Vatican I in 1870ad. Various rites within Roman Catholicism proves nothing to me. The Word Roman Catholic is decriptive of all churches in which are subjected to the authority of the Pope. Hence the term RCC is a proper title for them. My examples do match. It was Roman Catholicism that changed doctrinally.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty Hardly at all. The traditions taught orally by word of mouth and letter is the Gospel . They were the same message. And refers only to what Paul taught there. And nothing there of any unknown doctrines that cant be traced back to the apostle Paul or the apostles.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty Oh yes I can lay the Inquistions at the feet of the RCC and her Popes. The Popes have declared themselves to be GOD. And have the right to set up kings. So if they want to have that kind of power, then the blame belongs at the feet of the Pope. And those Heretics as you call them, were mostly people who read the Bible, And knew the Pope was the Little Horn of Daniel, and Head of the Beast Power of the Beast out of the Sea in Revelation.
handydude6 1 year ago
@popedusty There was far more than just the Spanish Inquisition. The merciless hunt down of the Hugenots of France and the Waldensias from Switzerland and Germany were dredful. No the Catholic Church did not kill any of them. But the Catholic church set the laws in motion and tried them. They also sent troops to exceute massess of them. Under the protection of who ever the Holy Roman Emperor was at the time.
handydude6 1 year ago
@popedusty On page 368 in Vol. 2 how was Cajetan distorted as an example for your claim ? Remember Cajetan was the one who questioned Luther and had the same OT Canon listing view. How was that decontextualized or misrepresented ? You can't provide any examples from it at all on what you claimed.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@NY1054Cool He was not distorted . His statements were very clear on it. He defended them as being read for edification and not as inspired Scripture. You were better off telling me that you disagree with him rather than face his clear comments on it supporting Jerome's understanding of the OT.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty King & Webster did not do what you claimed that they did. I find it over 95 % probable that you never read their 3 volume work and replied on second hand information from someone else. The standard arguments used by RCC apologist were dealt with and interacted. I own and read the Catechism and other books by the RCC. I am not seeing anything I never seen before. One thing I learned long ago was the church fathers did not hold to Roman Catholicism as taught today.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty What you need to read is Holy Scripture The Ground and Pillar of Our Faith three volumes by William Webster & David T. King. And read Disputation On Holy Scripture by William Whitaker. They deal extensively with each and every false argument presented by Roman Catholics on Scripture, tradition and the church fathers.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty What is rejected is unwritten doctrinal oral tradutions that can't be traced back to the apostles. The oral doctrinal traditions of the apostles are located in the New Testament. The context of the tradition by word and letter were the same by the apostle Paul. There is nothing there of unknown unwritten doctrinal tradtions. The traditions of 2 Thes 2:15 it the Gospel.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty You have revised history. The Old Testament predated the Christian church. And the early church had the apostles while the NT was being written. In the OT times they had the prophets until the OT was completed as well. There are no unwritten doctrinal oral traditions around today that can be traced back to the apostles. Since you deny new divine revelation you conceded the entire point. You are the one that needs to read the church fathers and other church history books. :)
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@popedusty Scripture is given by inspiration of God. While no Bishops at church councils are " prophets " or " apostles " . What is rejected is unwritten tradition which can not be traced back to Jesus and the apostles. God created Scripture and not the church. Bad understanding you have. There are no new divine revelation being given today. Not unless you want to go the way of Mormonism, Adventist or Jehovah Wittnesses. No inspired prophets or apostles are around today.

@NY1054Cool The Bible was formed in the incubator of the Catholic Church.....even Luther admitted that. The Church chose which books to regard as authoritative and which to reject.
pharmfarm59538 1 year ago
@pharmfarm59538 No. The Old Testament was written prior to the existance of the Christian church. The Word of God procedes the existance of the Church. It was once oral and is now written. God inspired each and every book of Scripture as he moved each author. The Church merely discovered what was Scripture. The early church had the OT Books written by either a prophet of God or one who had the prophetic gift or was a prophet and had the prophetic gift.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@NY1054Cool Now there is a scholarly statement for you..."the Old testament was written prior to the Christian church" It is hard to debate the obvious. However there were many documents...intertestamental and written during the Apostolic era by followers of Christ that did not make it into the Cannon of Scripture. Some of them read very much like cannonical books. If there were a large amount of Christian literature floating around and the Catholic church select..continued
pharmfarm59538 1 year ago
@NY1054Cool If there was a large amount of Christian literature floating around and the Catholic Church "discovered" which of it was inspired.....then I guess they produced the Sacred Scriptures by selection. And don't tell me I am confused about Luther. I was a Lutheran for many years and read much of luthers writings. In spite of his antipathy for the Roman church he did give them credit for producing the Bible.
pharmfarm59538 1 year ago
@pharmfarm59538 The RCC OT canon was defined and settled dogmatically in 1546ad. Luther's view of the catholic church is not the same as yours so dont use him when he disagrees with you. The Canon issue is a lost cause for Roman Catholicism historically speaking. The Catholic church does not equate what is Roman Catholicism. They are not one and the same. You seem unaware that Eastern Orthodox has a larger OT Canon than the RCC. Yet each claims to follow apostolic tradition on that.

How do I know I can trust him?
rldlol 1 year ago
@rldlol Protestants hold that Scripture is the only infallible rule of faith . It is supreme over church councils , elders/ bishops in the church and creeds of the church. Before making silly comments like you did at least make sure you know what the doctrine of Sola Scriptura teaches even if you disagree with it. Church councils, elders/bishops and creeds are viewed as a lesser authority but not infallible. They are to be tested by Scripture and subject to it.
NY1054Cool 1 year ago
@NY1054Cool The last evangelical church I was at rewrote the doctrinal statement about every 5 years. The elders had a new view on what Gods eternal truth was every few years. And each time it enhanced their power. Eventually they threw out the church constitution and declared themselves Gods conduit of truth and the congregation no longer had a vote on spiritual matters. The Apostles and Nicean creeds are still there presenting Gods truth in an understandable way.
pharmfarm59538 1 year ago
@pharmfarm59538 a church that does that would cause me alerm. I would have to see what rewriting was done on it to get a good idea prior to making any conclusion. Its something informed Protestants would leave from.

@NY1054Cool If you look closely at protestant belief....they do believe in tradition as well as Bible as having authority. Some like the Anglicans will frankly admit it. Others like many of the Anabaptist sects cling to non-biblical traditions even though they claim the only submit to the Bible. Look at the history of dispensationalism....the kingdom interuption theory orignated from the dreams of a woman diagnosed as schizophrenic.Darby wrote down the dreams and Schofield popularized them
pharmfarm59538 1 year ago
@pharmfarm59538 Protestants follow tradition but maintain it is below Scripture in authority. The problem is over unwritten tradition that can be traced back to the apostles. The anabaptist were alittle extreme and went beyond what normative Reformed Theology on the issue of tradition. Darby did not get his views from a crazy girl but rather from a study from Scripture as he said. Darby held to Sola Scripture and did not believe in present day prophets or weird things like that.
