I love this! I want to be involved in the changes that will hopefully be taking place. I live in Cedar Rapids, IA where much of our hope was taken in the disastrous floods last summer. I have ideas that involves meaningful community interactions that will service everyone from the youth to the elderly. I hope that ideas that are fresh and unique like mine are finally taken seriously.

Please tell me this is a joke. OBama would make a great CEO of a charity or other volunteer organization but not the President. This is not the government's job in any way.

Can I opt out as a tax payer to support this effort? Where do you get off threatening me with force to support this effort?

It seams obama only focuses on national problems and not as much focus on the world. What about all the people outside US borders that had hopes for Obama, what can they expect? And what if a second 911 comes, what will all the promisses be worth then?

This is the video on "service," not theone on foreign policy or another on other areas of concern to you and to the incoming administration. Read more widely and look for information on Obama and those other issues. Be patient. My god, the guy's only trying to prepare for presidency, not assume it already.

I don't know about you, but I don't see anything wrong with Obama trying to make sure the US is strong before worrying about the world, and you shouldn't either.

Helping the world is all well and good, but not in the face of all the problems confronting the US right now.

Let him fix most of the big problems here, before he fixes the problems with the rest of the world

right now in america theres a lot of work to be done...the president of the united states of america needs to be concerned with....america. they're taking into account the world too but to take care of the world we have to take care of ourselves first.

I did 2 years in Americorps and now serve on the leadership committee for my local Habitat for Humanity Women Build project. One thing we can't ignore is that not everyone is going to respond to altruistic reasoning. So spend some time showing folks the pragmatic side of service, as well. You learn great skills, build a substantial resume and get inside introductions to city, state and community leaders. Even the hardest-core "what's in it for me" type has to appreciate that.

In our schools today it seems that the teachers spend more time on school partys and trips than teaching our kids. Why are we having our kids used as door to door salesmen for the schools it's sub's,apples,cards,candy and gift books pushed on the kids almost every week why is homework and time to dream the last thing on the list now.

Obama's website initially said that "national service" will be REQUIRED. Originally it read "...developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year." Now it reads "set a goal." At least we know his actual intentions, especially when Rahm also said he wants required universal service. I'm sorry, but I am not the government's slave.

Counting on 8 hour shifts, that's roughly 2 weeks of work!

So, you'd refuse to volunteer in your community, for 2 weeks, if it'd lead to some additional assistance funding your education?

I just want to leave a comment (I did not watch the video) that I am unsubscribing to this channel.

I know longer believe in any of this. A leader who cares about people who supports them and wants them to be part of the process does not then ask someone who spreads hate and lies to be the first speaker to speak on inauguration day.

My wife brought to my attention of the state of cities in AMerica.Crumbling infrastrutcture we know but of garbage strewn in poorer neighbourhood and high crime areas.Citizens should have an obligation to clean up there home cities.With or without federal help.I pick up garbage all the time without being asked because its the right thing to do for our world.But maybe pay the poor minimum wage to do it?

what a slap in the face to the incredibly supportive lgbt community when you choose rick warren. you know that at all the gay pride events people were carrying obama signs and stickers were given out? the speeches...i knew they shouldn't he doesn't support marriage equality but warren groups us in with pedophiles and is even more against gay rights than obama is. i just feel bad for those in the gay community who were supporting him with the idea that we would ever get a chance to hope.

What strikes me is seeing the lgbt community holding signs like "tolerance" or "Stop the Hate" but I have a video of an nice old lady how came out to peacefully pray for your community because she doesn't agree with gay marriage as I don't. They took her cross, threw it on the ground and stamped all over it. Now you are upset because BHO chose Rick Warren to Lead Prayer at the Inauguration. You don't want equal rights, you want special rights. Don't get your way you have a tantrum.

Service should be Mandatory. A 2 or 3-year committment to one of many ways to "serve" America (Military, Peace Corps, CCC, or similar) in return for the benefits of Health Care, Social Security, etc. Love America? Prove it with Service.
