  • Just double hinge the rig simple as , and ad a bit of shrink tube just over the eye and the twist of the knotless knot your first hinge should be about two inches behind the eye and the next hinge half way down the rig , and the line thickness has nothing to do with it I use snakebite all the time even the same rig I use in France never had a problem , great video tho learned a lot cheers !!!

  • why dont u put the kernels on the hook?

  • what is the best bait for common carp?

  • Nice vids . . . thx

  • Hi I'm new to carp fishing I was wondering if you could give me some advice, how long would you recommend leaving your boilie/pop up in water before recasting I sometimes feel I'm not leaving it in long enough. I also use pva bags

  • Wete is this lake?? It looks good!!

  • Were is this lake ?? It looks good !!

  • line far too thick, i think stiff rigs should be kept short for best results..just a thought,..

  • why don`t you use a shorter rig. a small 6cm stiffrig. much more chance to hook

  • you've a good spot out there.. i wish there were that many carps around my hook..

  • nice music!

  • i think if u dont straighten the hooklink out as much the fish will have a better chance of gettin the hookbait further into the mouth before the lead comes into play, resulting in more hooked fish

  • by making an observation, it really is best to use a sliding weight that is not tied on to the line. being tied on to the line will only spook the when it pulls the line along with the weight :)

  • Alot of these wouldnt even registar as takes wonder how many times a carp mouthed my bait without getting caught

  • see how that first carp saw something that panicked it , maybe the glint off the hook , clever fish.

  • how mush is carp here?

  • I never knew how easy they can spit the hook. Even with the best rigs that would still happen. Thanks for the video. Tight Lines.

  • just curious why dont you just put a couple kernels on the hook

  • @1337petergriffin Common wisdom from the carp fishing community is that a bare hook with a hair rig gives you more hook-ups, but... truth is I never did a video to prove the point! Maybe I should... Maybe we'd be surprised...

  • @JeromeMoisand use a long shank hook and fill the shank with kernels would that work?

  • @jgsnipe1 You can catch this way, no question. But this would probably not be very effective, as the movement of the hook would be impaired by the corn, and the whole thing will likely be spit out before hooking any part of the carp's mouth. Still... you will catch some, I'm sure.

  • great vid...how they'get away with it!'!!!!

  • your lines to thick thats why they spit it out

  • @dfg297lpopdirk Not 100% sure about the thickness aspect, but yes, I don't like this type of hook link... Just wanted to experiment with it to stay open-minded though!

  • try using a straight through sinker. like a running rig the carp in your vid spat out the bait when they felt your lead

  • so it looks like the carp hook themselves

  • @thejanitorssuccess This is indeed the goal of the rigs being used here.

  • does any one fish and eat what you catch??? I never was fishing on a lake or a river, only depp sea fishing just started last yaer after but most of the time I eat what I catch I wonder do the most realy only fish for the sport. I do let go sharks or some fish what are not the won I wont in my pan but otherwise^^ they are good you know.

  • Do you kill the carp may i ask or are you a nice american and put them back ?

  • @CarpManDan93 Catch & release indeed. But I'm not a 'nice american' as... I am French (although I live in the US). So your question made me smile... ;-)

  • why isnt there any bream ??

  • @CODSCOPERS That would be because it was recorded in the US, where breams don't exist!

  • @JeromeMoisand okee thank you but becaus i dont live i the US i dint know thad anyways thanks

  • where is this

  • just goes to show soft braid links work on any water but stiff rigs dont...the flurocarbon actualy works against u when the bait is sucked in as seen on this months carp tv

  • just goes to show soft braid links work on any water but stiff rigs dont...the flurocarbon actualy works against u when the bait is sucked in as seen on this months carp tv

  • pause the video @4:06 looks like the carp got 2 eyes on the right side of his head :S

  • @NoPunkNoRock Good Eye you got there,What A David Icke forums that Waas!!

  • @chriscrazyman32 I test my hooks before each cast to make sure they stay sharp enough. If you have any doubt... Change it!

  • this video is amazing. By the way, how do you film them, do you dusguise the camera?

  • @MMrandomdude12 Thanks. Please check my Web site, the video section, and you'll find write-ups about underwater video recording.

  • Hair rig was made because when a carp has been caught many times, it starts to suspect free food is not so "free", and in the case it notices that something is wrong with the food (boilies, sweet corn or something like that), the fish drops the food and dissapears.

Here in Spain I caught many carps trying with the food in the hook, but most of people I know who practise carpfishing, use hair rig on their fishing days.

  • cool

  • Usually grass and common carp will drop the bait if there is weight on the line. I prefer a half piece of bread on a 2/0 hook.

  • veryyy nicee , a veryy good video !!!

  • very nice , a good video !

  • Very nice video. Why dont you put the corn on the hook? Do they feel it and drop it quicker or something? I havent fished for carp very much but they are fun to catch. Thanks for the video.

  • @clewi1091 This is a practice which started many years ago in Europe. You can certainly catch with corn on the hook. It just appears that the probability of hooking them is much higher with a hair rig and the bait separated from the hook. I guess this is because the hook moves more freely and has a better change of catching a piece of flesh in the mouth of the carp when the line tightens. Give it a try!

  • @JeromeMoisand Thanks. Where do you get the stuff for this kind of rig? Or can you just use a piece of monofilament and make your own?

  • @clewi1091 Yes, the so-called knotless knot is fairly easy to do yourself. You can use mono or braided lines, depending on your personal preferences. I prefer braid -notably when using corn-, but that's just me. Do an Internet search on hair rig and knotless knot, and you can knock yourself out! ;-)

  • 4:06 2 eyes... :|

  • Brilliant! It shows you how many times the fish get away with it. I think this would still happen with the best rigs in the world. You can see the carp move the lead before spitting it out in panick.

  • have you tried an anti-tangle tapered tubing that runs from the lead and along some of the hooklength? I have found that when the lead hits the bottom the tubing kicks the rig outward, preventing coiling or bowing.

  • Ok, i take that back, didnt watch the whole thing through-looks like yousnared a few! Great footage . .

  • mate, how many times were you 'done' there!? Sort your rigs out!!

  • how do you get the camera out there?

  • @prokhk Please check my Web site, the video section, and you'll find write-ups about underwater video recording.

  • i think this is brilliant.. i am new to coarse fishing and this has really opened my eyes quite different to what i was lead to believe. i can now see these fish are no fools. my personal best is only a 23lbs so far. now maybe i'll find those bigger ones thanks to your efforts.

    acee 11

  • @freda927 thanks for the nice words. Much appreciated.

  • hmm...is the corn a raw one?

  • @nickliewwc no, it's boiled.

  • @JeromeMoisand well...will the corn loosen if the carp keep on playing with it? i mean eat and let it go again

  • @nickliewwc with sweet corn, there is such a risk, which is why I often combine it with a piece of plastic fake corn. With boiled maize, it is hard enough and will never fall off. But... sweet corn is more attractive...

  • @JeromeMoisand ic...thx alot bt i never landed a carp b4...haha, i am more interesting to cast the snakehead, they are really fierce and when they strike ur bait

  • I love! make some more :-))

  • Shorten the length of your rig and you will get loads more takes once they hit that lead there nailed. ;)

  • i suggest using a blow back rig using a rig ring leaving the hooked pricked whilst the fish can blow back the bait very effective i use it for a lot of my fishing and have a very lot of success through it and i hope you try it

  • I would suggest to try using a smaller hooklink to, this give the fish less time to spit the hook, if you can see they have the hook in there mouth for a while, with a shorter hooklink it will set the hook much quicker i'm not saying it would work better for you, im just saying its works better for me. but nice video anyway.

  • @mrstuartevenden yes, agreed, this is one of the key things I've learned while making those videos. In a relatively unpressured fishing environment, shorter hooklinks definitely help. I wouldn't push the logic too far, notably with bigger fish, but I no longer use hooklinks longer than 5 inches.

  • karpie to cwaniaki hehehe

  • can you put more vids up please

  • @AlexVarela909 LOL... This is quite some work to make those videos. Subscribe to my Carp Live! channel, and you'll be notified when I post new ones. I added a few nice ones in the past few months.

  • brill ! think they are picking up on the weight or hook point?

like to see this balanced to see if it got more takes.

  • so cool

  • how many did you catch all together in the end ?

  • @joemaskrey During those 2 sessions? Can't remember. 10 or so, I would guess.

  • Very interesting.. nice work!

  • i'm about too try my luck on winter carp fishing

  • @ESHIZZAL I certainly do not doubt your experience, but this is in Europe. The fishing conditions in the US are VERY different. This is where I have some skepticism. This being said, a 77lb PB, that is VERY impressive!

  • great footage much better than them boys at korda lol,

what a way to test your rigs, any tips on a winter rig for boilies?

  • @rockykelly1 Thanks. I rarely fish with boilies, as we have much less nuisance fish in the US than in Europe and few carpers, so boilies aren't often worth the money. I would just suggest to shorten your hooklink, as carp tend to move much more slowly in the winter.

  • at 5:00 till 5:07, how big are those fish

    coz they look around 10,15lb?

  • @fishingben1 The camera magnifies a lot. Those carp are 6 to 10 pounds, with the occasional teen.

  • ok, i went night fishing for carp and didnt catch anything in two days! can anyone give me tips, i think i need a longer hair rig for a start, ans sweet corn works well for big carp?

  • @TheBoroboyjack try boilies, they seem to get the bigger fish out of my local lake

  • @TheBoroboyjack Sweet corn is fine for big carp, this story of boilies being more selective for big carp is just a myth in my humble opinion. Prebaiting does help a lot. And well, fish where you hear them being active (they tend to jump more at night).

  • Great Jerome. I always got in mind that small hair rig are not so good...now I see that I was right.

    Thanks for this test.

  • what happended @ 1.23 of the video he tasted the corn then lokked like he got spooked are they really that smart and cautious

  • that is some awesome footage!!!!!!!!

  • how do you get the camera out to where you are fishing?

  • @GhOsTbOy01010101 I fish at the bottom of a vertical wall where carp congregate. So I can lower the camera down there. And easily fiddle around with its position by moving or turning the corresponding cable.

  • @JeromeMoisand do you reckon you could get it out 40 or 50 yards? i was thinking of getting one.

  • @GhOsTbOy01010101 I believe the cable is 100 feet long (do check, i don't remember). If you bring it by boat, you could reach out 20 yards form shore, and keep some flexibility. This being said, just be aware that the ability to constantly fiddle with the camera's position is important... Check my Web site for more info.

  • @JeromeMoisand awesome, thanks :)

  • 4:08 hello my name is carp j.

  • fantasic video!learnt a lot thanks!

  • what im noticing the most is even if they are hooked they dont always spook the others as i always thought they would

  • @cjdaddy43 The underwater camera is connected by a long cable to a display unit. The display unit has a VGA connector. And I bought some electronic gizmo that can record video from a VGA input, and store it in digital format. Then I can edit the material at home.

  • @JeromeMoisand is it like one of those cams you see on ebay? come with 30m cable and some with 60m cables, in a case with a little screen. The camera is yellow i think, they sell for about 160-190 ish.. I want to buy one of those but didnt know if they were any good but if this is footage from one of those then i think ill go buy one. Heres an item number of one (put into ebay search box) 250133231052 . I havent picked the cheapest priced one or anything, just showing what one im talking about.

  • @CarpMagic95 sounds like it. Mine is an Aqua-Vu Scout XL. Works well.

  • @JeromeMoisand cool, then i think ill be investing, sounds like it could be fun to do this. Cheers

  • nice

  • Love the 6:32 moment, ololol the fish was like "da fok is with this corn"

  • you want to try counterbalancing your hook bait by using one real piece of corn and one fake or adding a bit of cork between the baits.

this will make the baits fly back into the mouth much faster and producing better hook holds and more fish because they find it easier to suck in.

Also try stripping back about an inch or so of the coated braid closest to the hook, this will make the hook bait seem more natural and allow a bit of movement on the bottom to match the free offerings.

    great vid 5 *

  • next time put a large shot like a AAA or SSG and shorten the hook length as

done by adam penning (english fisherman) he reckons the weight of the shot

does a good job of helping the point stick in quicker.gonna try it this wkend myself.

nice video! why dont you have a look at the korda underwater vids? should be useful to you..

  • what kind of pellets u throw in??

  • @visualkeirockstar I think I was using sweet feed by then (pellets for horses, with molasses in it). As far as I can remember...

  • u want a smaller hook link to stop the fish spitting the bait back out ..

if u have a smaller hooklink then the weight is picked up quicker and therefore hooks itself more times....

  • 2:32

"lets look how the camera taste"

  • I don't understand why every one is using corn.

If you use corn it is really possible to catch little fishes?

But why do you use it than?

  • @Collorz900 sweet corn is highly attractive for carp. They just love it. Combination of flavor & color. When using 2 or 3 kernels of corn, small fry (e.g. sunfish) will not be able to pick it up, at least not with a hair rig. So you will (usually) only catch carp, large or small. That is... in North America. In Europe, there are all sorts of white fish who like corn too, which creates a challenge for carp anglers, and that's why boilies are used that often out there.

  • @JeromeMoisand or with catfood from the can this is very good bait to catch a carp!!

  • 6:23 to 6:28 "Food !!!!! ....... a shit !"

  • u need to go shorter on the rig size its way to long thats y they was gettin away a few times needs to short so it duz not have the time to get rid of it :) but other than that was cool as hell btw are u fishing with KORDA HOOKS ?

  • WATE LAKE IN ENGLAND OR GERMANY

  • Why is it when the bait is so close to the hook it failed to hook many fish, but yet i have fished a ledger with sweetcorn on the hook and have caught many many fish?

  • is that a ghost carp at 6:31?

  • How many of them resulted in a landed fish?

  • Nice Clip very cool and interesting help me so mutch

  • How Did You Get That Many Carp In That One Place

  • @Wx5HTbEasT They congregate naturally in this place as this is well oxygenated and food is plentiful. In addition, I threw a bucket of boiled maize in the water the evening before.

  • I vacume packed my camera in a plastic baggy.

  • Great footage Jerome. I use stiff links a lot myself so it was great to see how they actually behave underwater. I never leave my links completely coated. I strip back about 1 inch from the eye of the hook to create a 'hinge'. Looking at this footage though, I may consider trying shorter links of 3 or 4 inches as it's clear longer links arent so effective.

  • did you do the filming

  • @flatout1001 Yep. With an underwater camera.

  • @JeromeMoisand you should be making money

  • what was that on the hook

  • @yupyup39 corn (real and fake kernels)

  • as i said before if ya struggle doing ya actual hairs with Flurocarbon like esp ghost or what have ya for ya stiff rigs then do a normal hair rig but use a supple soft braid or mono or anthing else light for your actual hair. Its very simple and doesnt need to be strong, floss could almost do it, its only to hold bait but it also means you have nice presentation cos you havent made a mass knot with ya fluro doing the loop on the end of the hair.

  • in my opinion ..this last rig ..uncoated in the middle, is very efective...i made some for myself and they were ...amazing..it works !!! every time i have a rod with a rig like that.thanks and make some more tests please...have a good day !

  • fluro is the best for stiff rigs and if you want to say fluro sucks for the hair not and loop then simply do your actual hair with a soft and supple braid and the rig length with fluro its pretty simple.

  • great video! i never tried rigs like this. i've caught carp with doughballs and nightcrawlers, both directly attached to the hook and it worked very well in the columbia river as well as local lakes / ponds.

  • amazing footage!

  • Another trick with particle (hemp) being my fave, cook the hemp as normal so that it splits, dry it off properly so its totally dry, take an E-S-P 8mm cork barrel and tie dental floss around it, dip it in superglue and then dip it in the hemp, let it all dry off and then tie to the swivel, then put inside a PVA mesh bag full of hemp, add hemp oil, some amino's maybe and sling it out. Carp can not resist it and hemp is amazing in the winter! Its the one thing they will drop their guard for!

  • Hello Jerome, I'm from Italy. Your videos are very good, compliments!

I would like to make you a question:

were you fishing just over the carps (in vertical i mean)? After the carps hooked, you landed them? They were well hooked?

  • what happens if the carp swallows the hook? what do i do to get it out?

  • Unless your hooklinks are unreasonably long, this will never happen to you. If it does happen, just cut the line, the hook will rust and the fish will likely survive. You know, they eat crayfish and mussles, those carp are just so hardy.

  • I agree! but snake bite is crap for stiff rigs! braid whether coated or not should always be fished short ESPECIALLY when using particle! 3 to 4 inches. If you want a stiff rig, use 8 to 9 inches of 15lb flourocarbon and a longshank hook! Snake bite has totally different mechanics to fluorocarbon.

  • Yeah, I used what I had available at the time, but I do see your point. Fluorocarbon sucks for the hair knot & loop though, notably with particles.

  • Totally agree! I think you have done well with what you have and to show rigs that dont work are just as important as showing rigs that do! Yeah the fluoro is crap for hair knots! I always use a long D rig with a micro swivel atatched to it, then tie the bait to the swivel or if using maize for example, just thread the maize on a hair as normal and tie the hair to the swivel. You need as much natural movement as you can get when using stiff links. I find this to be the best method.

  • i always fish with a very short hooklink will make a video of it this year.

wanna see what i cought last year chek my 2 video's with some nice dutch fish up to 19 kilo's

  • 1.24 to bad fish scared of the rig without a stiffrig it would be flat on the bottom and you would have catch it

2.03 see how much he can swim with the rig in his mouth with a short hooklink he will get hooked right when he suks it up and because of a short hooklink he will get the full weight of the led and you would have catcht it

    2.17 again

2.39 he feels the hook and the hooklink and whit that long hooklink he has enough time and space to reject it

  • ...quien ha dicho que las carpas son tontas ??!!

    ..muy buen video !!

  • dude you need to shorten the hook ink the fish are moving slow over you rigs they are ejecting the rig because they have chance to blow to mutch is its shorter they will hit the lead quicker and the hook will catch hold

  • Camera magnifies a lot, those carp aren't big... The hook link was actually already quite short, 5 to 6 inches. I do agree with you that shortening it (from my usual 8 inches) improved things a lot.

  • Did you put summin on the hook so it doesn't catch or summin or are they just gettin away wiv it

  • 5 stars

  • What matters the most is to use at least 2.5oz, and preferably 3oz.

  • Nah i find 1oz or 1.5oz are the best u can hook them better but i do use the heaver ones sometimes. grest video

  • Awesome 5*

  • man.its a good video.i give You 5 *****

  • im confused on one thing. shouldnt it be easier to catch the carp when the hook's closer to the bait rather than it being further away?

  • actually no, there has to be enough space between the hook and the bait to ensure a good turn towards the bottom lip of the fish, else the hookbait would prevent the hook turning nicely

    grtz

  • thanks a lot man. so how much space do u think i should leave between the bait and hook? and does the length of the line that actually holds the bait matter?

  • Comment removed

  • I leave 1 cm between my (18 mm) hookbait and the curve of my hook (size 6). How bigger the bait and smaller the hook, how more space there has to be between the curve of the ook and the hookbait

    grtz

  • awesome!!

  • I'll try using a line aligner when I resume making videos... One thing at a time!

  • bloody hell that second rig is shocking, u do need a longer hair, could you do one om pop urs? i willl subsibe

  • Yes, the second rig was just me being provocative and having fun! ;-)

I do plan to do one with pop-ups, but this will probably have to wait a few months, right now, I fish for real!

  • If a picture is worth a thousand words, then this video is worth a thousand pictures. This video clearly shows Carp feeding habits. THANKS!

  • it allways looks realy easy in USA 2 catch carp i like it to be a bit ov a challenge

  • Great video! Thanks! However, it all looks too visible. There must be some very hungry fish in that lake. Is it over-stocked and as a result the fish will eat anything? Having written that, the fish in the video look in prime condition. Where is this lake? In my experience a highly visible rig will be seen by the fish and they will be spooked.
