Actually, SNES is all samples, and a primitive sampler at that. Probably the easiest technically to work with since you didn't have to much about too much with control parameters, you just sequenced sample data. In fact, you can even rip individual sounds from SNES games as wav files. THIS in contrast is pure FM synthesis. If someone wants lo-fi sampler music, they either just use an amiga or screamtracker on the PC... 8 bit goodness!
this rules, you are amazing. i just read about your Toriton Plus in Popular Science magazine (which is incredible as well) but man, i'm a huge fan of chiptune and this is just so awesome.
Yeah Im using specially written program made for this purpose. You can see the text on the TV for instance. The idea is that it could be used on any SMS1 or SMS2!
totally. i heard it was real popular in brazil too. weird, huh? it got forgotten about here. oh well. I want to utilize SMS power in my music some day
this is awesome. would love to have this for my master system. little scale is it possible to have something like midines for the master system? :)

is it possible to get a sega midi sound card driver for your computer? I want everyboady to play my old classic game.
LozuMaster 1 year ago
I also would like to do this by download real songs we listen everyday as midi (if possible) and do the same to see what sounds like.
LozuMaster 2 years ago
I'd love to do something like this!
CoolDudeClem 2 years ago
Can you do this with a super NES?
Ragnark1 2 years ago
@Ragnark1
Just get an old SB AWE32, they have similar MIDI Abilities.
Scioneer 1 year ago
@Scioneer I've got one of those sitting in an old computer. One cool thing would be to have real-time MIDI synth from an SNES emulator.

thats cool, how many channels does the sega soundchip have?
1lilnigga 3 years ago
6 FM channels, and 3 PSG channels, I believe.
(And one of the FM channels is often used as a low-bit rate PCM channel)

This is a Sega Master System, so it has 3 square waves and 1 noise wave - that's all.

Are you using a music cardrige? Or just hard wiring the IC?

Plus, hard wiring the VDP (of which the sound chip is a part of) is actually quite impractical - I've tried. :(
littlescale 3 years ago
holy shit. this is awesome. I am interested in this for sure. Master System is sooo under appreciated in america.

Excellent! Will you ever be making a production run of your interface?
MisterArray 3 years ago
Yes, this is quite possible. If I do make a production run, it will be in kit form most likely (pretty easy to make). But it wont be for a while.
littlescale 3 years ago
Perhaps keep an eye on my blog for updates regarding this.
littlescale 3 years ago
damn, seb, you are a MACHINE - it's embarrassing how much you produce! :)
