  • man i love the storyline and minor chords and the HARMONIES

  • ugggggggggggh....i love this song..!!!! one of the greatest songs ever...!!!?

  • LOVE THIS SONG. IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL EVEN WITHOUT MUDDERNATURE!

  • @simonj50

    thank you for this post

nice work and great unseen before images

whose guitar was neil playing that he guaranteed not a scratch on it ?

    what a great version.

took me a minute to disconnect from my love of the 4waystreet version.

and as soft rock easy jazz as this is david saves it with his voice.

it's as if he asked s,n and y to make it sound like joni mitchell's miles of aisles with tom scott and the la express.

    and they could and did.

    csny&pr maybe ?

  • This version is pure magic.

  • I loved this - thought it was beautiful.

I was introduced to CSNY when I was too young to truly appreciate what they were all about, however their track Dark Star on an album entitled CSN released in 1977 used to evoke such emotion in me that I will never forget it as long as I live!

Since then, the harsh realities of life has numbed my senses somewhat but perhaps now is the time to start listening to them again...listening with intent.

  • Those with the biggest hearts often hide them safely behind a wall of hard exterior, particularly after having experienced the intense pain of the mediocrity of mind, heart and soul of this world's general populous.

What he gives, he gives through his music, and for me, that is enough to love the man like a brother, the visionary brother of a better world.

Thank you David for taking me there in your music to visit a time and place far beyond that I'll ever know. It was wondrous, it was life.

  • quite amazingly beautiful...no other words needed

    jim

  • i raised myself up listening to 4 way street, abbey road, a question of balance, green house and steppenwolf live.

    saw this tour.

lame. robotic. should have been called the "walking asleep" tour.

('course we were all sleep walking by then.)

had to shout out "play us something we do not know." when graham asked for a song.

he woke up for a minute and delivered pure wild tales graham.

    sucky decade.

a neil nash and graham young album in 2012, please ?

  • A dream come true.. sing a few songs with these guys..

  • CSN (and Young) my companions through life. Their music inspired, accompanied and helped me through my life!

  • I'll take the old version, this sounds like it could be used for the theme song to a crappy tv show.

  • Comment removed

  • soothing

  • Stephen's guitar adds so much to an already beautiful song.

  • On this song his voice sounds like it sounds today

  • The vocals (at least Crosby's lead) were dubbed in 1991 for the CSN box set. He stills sounds great, but sings more "normally," whereas his 60's vocals have an otherworldly quality. My personal favorite version of this song is one of the acoustic versions with just him and Nash from their first duo tour, which you can find on Crosby's box set or "Another Stoney Evening."

  • @MinstrelOnTheRun

thank you I understand now! but where is the version with the original crosby's vocals??

(i love those C&N versions as well, in acoustic and also with their band in 1976 i think)

  • @MinstrelOnTheRun That's really interesting- I always thought it was Nash's harmony that was overdubbed later, as his voice sounds much different than on other recordings in 1970. The two voices definitely sound a little off (but this seems to change when Stephen's voice comes in at the end)

  • 1 on the windward shore.

  • MY favorite song ever... Golden

  • I've tried a hundred of times, but I still don't hear the "golden" sound.

  • They all had those kickass Martin's that sound like honey dripping off the strings on a warm summers day. Those vintage Martin's are so expensive I wish someone would send me the money to buy one. I was told 6 to 8 grand. My names Perry 214 470 8121 help a brother out.

  • pretorious700: My sentiments exactly. lol!

  • i thought the picture at 1:03 was hilarious!!!

  • wel done Simon

  • David Crosby is a musical god. Simply no other way to put it.

  • SORRY SOMEONE CAN TELL ME IN WHICH ALBUM THIS VERSION IS?THANKS CLAUDIA

  • @Zacchino01 It's from the 4CD box set called "CSN". There's also a double album version of the box set too.

  • This one sounds vastly superior to the 4-Way Street version; love it.

  • You cannot get a better version than this. Period.

  • my favorite, put your headphones on and close your eyes and sail away on emerald green waters with a warm wind flowing into your lungs

  • This is definitely Crosby's best and great Stills guitar work.

  • Every time i get on these CSN post on youtube i can't get off them for about three days. Then i go out and buy a bunch of there cd's. Stills was always the guy i dug the most, but Crosby album If i could only rember my name tops em all.

  • Hey, i've looked all over the internet for the cd where this song is on, and i can't find it. I have also looked for torrents but i can't find it there either. So can you please send this song in mp3 to me? i can give you my mail in a pm. thanks!

  • @0Mexicola0 Just go to listentoyoutube . com and paste the URL for this video and you'll be able to download the audio track.

  • Lovely to see all the images with one of those tunes that always rests well in the memories.

    Thank you so much.

  • my favorite csn song. my dad raised me on this music and this particular song brings a tear to my eye every time i play it. i miss and love you, daddy,

  • A fantastic C(S)N(Y) classic here. Croz has all the right to wallow in it in the world.

  • agreed his voice on this is subline

  • AHHHHH the Lee shore.....

    Many happy days......

  • magnifique!!!!!!

  • great

  • Easily the best writing and performance of Crosby's recording career and one of the best C, S, &N songs of all time. Thanks for the images and fantastic audio.

  • this one brought back more than a few memories...ty! really nice job on the vid :)

  • One of my favorite songs ♥

  • I was driving along the East coast Road in New Zealand.......

  • Driving along the east coast road in New Zealand.............

  • Crosbys' voice is like no other, strong but sometimes touched with the witfulness of a child. And Nash had the gift of not letting his genius get lost in the magic of CS&N. Stills could rock a melody and when the 3 of them came together to create music; it survived the craziness of drug, drama, egos and life on the edge. I will always love these incredible artists and find joy in their being alive.

  • Crosby has quite a voice. It's somewhat perfect, yet I would say he's lucky to be alive. He had liver problems because of things he did when he was young so he had to have a liver transplant and there's a 50/50 chance of someone living or dying and he survived. But It's a very good thing that he is alive because without him CSNY and maybe The Beatles, Cream, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Elton John and a lot of other 50's 60's and 70's artists we wouldnt know where music would've have gone. <3

  • more neil in the slideshow maybe? lol

  • I love the twangy guitar lead of Stephen's and yes this is David's song as he made it his own.

  • great song thanks

  • Yes this is one of the most beautiful songs they have done - this version is definitely the best of those I've heard. Takes me back all those years ago!

  • Great song.

  • Beautiful version, perfect sound, thanks for the upload

  • @papafirelin Glad you enjoyed.

  • @simonj50 Oh thanks so much for uploading this version!

  • @papafirelin I agree.

  • Great song! Great group!!! I use to smoke, with this as a background. as well all the rest of their music. I seen them at the Fox in St.Louis after I left the Army. Great harmony.... Those were the days. No viagra, no meds, Just your knees in the breeze and that throttle cranked back,

  • @grancop1

    hahaha great!

    that's wonderful..!

    I like what you wrote

  • Even though personally I find him an excruciating arse, I still love David Crosby's voice.

  • @pretorious700 . Arse maybe, but perfect voice yeah ?

  • @simonj50 Crosby himself admits he was difficult in his younger years, but nowadays he and Graham seem like such fun and sweet guys. I always admired Stephen the most even though he and Neil could be spoiled brats.

  • @Larrymh07 LOL..Crosby is still as difficult..nothing changed.. NASH has had to put up with his nonsnese 40 years....Crosby bitches al lthe time..screams NOOO to fans after a show who want autographs and is generally mean. Nash is a true gentleman..ALWAYS

  • @Larrymh07 Thanks for the info, even thought it's bad news. I guess we shouldn't look at our musicians and expect their behavior to be as great as their music.

  • @pretorious700

Totally agree - an absolute arse but the most beautiful voice ever bestowed upon a man. But check out the BBC live version of this - one of the most sublime things ever.

  • @pretorious700 i was plannin on goin to see them at the end of august...just out of plain curiosity why do you think he's an ars???

  • @BluezBro604 He has a long history of being an arrogant pain in the ass, back in the day he was pretty insufferable. I think he's mellowed out a lot, and considering what he's been through, it's a good thing.

  • @pretorious700.....right on

  • wow. I can't describe how beautiful this song is. no words for it...

  • @steelydan211 . Cool seeing a fellow Dan fan loving some CSNY too....kindred spirits!

  • ty and bless you for the nice photo

  • the most beautiful harmonies ever. i have always loved "The Lee Shore", but this version is exceptional.

  • NOBODY DOES IT LIKE THEM

  • Thanks for posting this. I have never heard this version. I love the 12 string and the familiar electric guitar sound.

  • What sudio album was this on? I have the live version on 4 Way Street. Have I missed something?

    Thanks.

  • it shuold be on that one, man !

  • This version was never released until the 1991 CSN Box Set...what a waste, huh?

  • Thanks.

  • @mrbollocks no, you haven't...this was released on 4Way Street and to my knowledge there is no other studio release of this song and I prefer that version to this as that version captures the times and the spirit in which it was written...enjoy!

  • Thanks. I just like both versions....

  • The best song CSNY ever did together. One of those few cuts where all 4 were significantly creatively involved on the tune. Stills on lead. Croz and Neil on rhythm. Nash on organ. I love the fact that it was a Crosby song too. Powerful. Ditto for Almost Cut My Hair and CSNY version of Homeward Through the Haze. All Crosby tunes done their best service as CSNY tunes..... Thanks guys!

  • right , their best song, but the umplugged is even better !

  • Yes, thanks for posting. It clears the mind of all the garbage music the "industry" is always spoon-feeding the masses. Music is supposed to be real, and fun for both the player and the listener. And when it is, it's never sweeter. This song is the perfect example.

  • Thanks for the posting. I've never heard this version before. What a beautiful song and they don't seem to play it anymore

  • Boundless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Simply perfect!!! Love the Crosby electric 12 strings arpeggios and the Stills guitar solos...

  • I am there

  • It takes me back to a beautiful period in our lives. They were so young and vibrant and life was music. Their music.

  • The best version of this great song I have ever heard. Gorgeous.

  • such a beautiful song, I just cant help but smile

  • i listen to this song at least 10 times a day! can't stop.. it's so good!

  • freaking Stills! man, he can rip with the best of them

  • word

  • Do you all hear that wonderful guitar That is Stephen folks all the beautiful guitar work is and no one can play like him. We love you Stephen

  • @damagedangel10 Yes, he's an amazingly talented musician - who has never quite gotten the recognition that he deserves.

  • This is one group I don't get. In my opinion, their best songs are like this one, which weren't hits.

  • The term lee shore is a nautical term used to describe a stretch of shoreline.A lee shore is one that is to the lee side of a vessel - meaning the wind is blowing towards it. For example, if you were standing on a beach, looking out to sea and the wind is blowing at you, you are on a lee shoreThe "lee" of a boat is the side that the wind touches last as it crosses the boat.

  • @Albertan1956 Funny, I was just about to write what lee shore meant. Thanks lol!

  • Betty i will always love you? Rick

  • this takes me straight back to the tropics, sailing... thank you mr crosby

  • Thanks for posting, my friend.

  • That man in the middle was and is the most beautiful man I have ever seen No one even comes close then and NOW Stephen I love you!!!

  • Who's the woman at 2:17? I'm not an expert, but what song would she be on?

  • That would be the late, great Laura Nyro. CSN is in the midst of giving her their famous "ear f***"!

  • One word says it all: "Timeless"

  • A limey, a Canadian, and two yanks.

A brilliant combination for brilliant music.

  • haha well put sir

  • The guy with the camera at 0:35 is Henry Diltz, great rock photographer and all around nice guy. He did the cover shots of many CSN&Y albums, and most of the shots in this video.

  • Reminds me of Key West 25 years ago, before cruise ships Spottswood's ego mania

  • Right On!

  • wow...what a beautiful rendition of this classic.

  • I LOVVVVVVE this song. Might be my favorite. Excellent video as well. Whole package is awesome.

Thanks so much for posting it!

    Jen

  • But check out the live BBC version which is surely definitive despite the guys being high as kites. Sensational perhaps because of that. Rock on!!!

  • have been looking for this - a great favorite of all time - thank you so much! dove beneath my floating home...... ahhhh

  • Great song, one of my favorite by CSNY
