  • How is this related to w65sRambo videos...?

Riley is articulate and brings up such a really great point. She is a rare independent thinker. It's amazing!

I am an expert at marketing, but I am blown away by her creativity and individual voice.

You can see her think through her argument. And she understands something that most marketers do not -- that the truly creative kids do not want to be boxed in by stereotypes. She's amazing!

  • right on sister o.o

  • I hope she becomes the president when she grows older then there would be faith in humanity!

  • You're looking at the first woman president.

  • Aww she is sooo cute

  • Lol! She's to cute

  • I think Riley deserves the right to vote! That, or she should just run for President! RESPECT to you and your parents, Riley! :)

  • Wow very smart

  • I'm a man... and when I was little my favourite colour was pink,....but that's only because walkers prawn cocktail flavour crisps came in a pink bag

  • my hero

  • her shirt makes me think of 9/11 :(

  • You deserve an "Awesome Dad Award" man. You're raising a smart kid to think critically. I like that you're asking her questions about her opinions while you listen to them. Encourage it. You've got an awesome daughter.

  • Awww! Such a smart girl! :)

  • This kid...is smarter than most adults

  • thank you Riley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this video! Smart kid! For school I made a project explain why this is so. I submitted it as a video response. Could you please approve it? It's in your YouTube inbox, the tab on the left side. Thanks!

    ~Michelle

  • This kid rocks.

  • I used to throw my dolls out of the window and play with my brother's lego. My favourite colour in school was dark purple and back then, my teacher told me I was weird and it wasn't a nice colour for a little girl to like. I fumed at my desk all afternoon, but I still made my shapes chart out of dark purple paper.

It should also be noted that historically, pinks were considered a male colour and light duck egg sort of blues were more feminine. Anyone who doesn't believe me can go google that.

  • What a clever little thing. It's lovely that she already knows her own mind and sees past the trickery of gender marketing. Bless her sweet little heart.

  • i'm 25 when i was her age i use to play race cars! and dump tucks

  • Aaaawww! Baby feminist!

  • good one

  • I played with barbies as a young boy, and it didn't do shit to me. Granted, I did play "batman" with them where my batman and dr freeze action figures duked it out over a pit of mud, with the barbie (a heroine named Rose) hanging by a thread (before he also almost fell in and Las Espinas (the Thorns) hit squad made up of more barbies came to kick freeze's ass) but I wouldn't have been able to do any of that shit if my parents hadn't given a fuck. Man, that was awesome haha. Just let kids be man

  • thats right riley speak the truth!

  • Haha She looks like my cousin skyler

  • the old souls are incarnating to save us in the nick of time

  • Preach it girl!!

  • Aww...she's cute. XDDDD

  • Just another first world problem..

  • By the way, I love that she sounds as annoyed as I feel about the whole thing!!

  • My daughter and I discuss Marketing and the influence it has on culture all the time. I applaud you for discussing this with your daughter at such a young age. Letting her know that it is okay not to fall within what society deems normal will help her grow into a powerful person.

  • Clever girl! How old is she?

  • i see a future thesis on sexism in the media/consumer culture

  • I bet her parents are proud. :)

  • So how do bronies add into this?

  • Riley 2012

  • You supercilious twit! It is not about convenience, it's about stereotyping and peer pressure and marketing as in 'creating markets' .. how dare you presume to lecture someone who obviously already understands the world far better than you!

  • jajajajajajaj smart little one the next ceo of the marketing industry jijiji

  • This is exactly how I felt when I was 3, I refused to wear dresses, play with dolls, and wear pink. And I played with Hotwheels. Yet people assumed that I would like pink and assumed that I wouldn't like legos....I never understood why, even now

  • Future lobbyist!

  • How can u dislike this

  • Reversing Walt Disney's quote "Adults are only kids grown up, anyway", before being child or adult, women or men, we are humans. Humans do what humans do: reasoning. To be a child means there is lots to discover and learn, and certainly it doesn't mean that they are idiots! Toy and software companies should grow up and treat them as what they are, intelligent beings.

  • I remember thinking this too when I was primary school age. I don't think she's repeating what her parents said because when I babysit I've heard kids say similar things and my little cousin (boy) said something like this too a while back. So I don't think her dad coached her to say that.

  • Oh she is going to be a handful growing up. Good luck, Dad!

  • Why anyone disliked this video!?

  • this girl will be Juno

  • @charles101993

OOOHHH WOW I'M SO IMPRESSED OOOHHH AAAHHH even though you obviously have no grasp on logic when it comes to sexuality. sit down.

  • Please ask her to explain dark energy and dark matter.

  • wow shes smarter than the toy companies lol

  • You might say she's a little RILED up.

  • I can't help but think that she'll be insufferably cynical and indifferent to everything in life by the time she reaches the 1st grade.

  • @itsbankaibitch The best kind of person to be.

  • @itsbankaibitch In that case, I would have been her friend and we would have been smart and insightful together. ;)

  • Wow, what an incredibly intelligent child!

  • smart

  • this is fucking awesome

  • YES.

  • Great kid, but won't get the majority vote unfortunately. Kids come out of the womb and right into their little pink and blue slots.

  • such a reflection on the parents ;)

  • There's always anime like shoujo madoka magica an sailor moon...

  • No, he's a boy. He's wearing green top, not pink.

  • Oh she is a Girl ?!

  • aswome smart kid

  • Riley, I like the cut of your gib.

  • Aw she's so cute and smart! Marketers need to listen to her.

  • FEMINIST ACTIVIST IN THE MAKING!

  • When I was a child I always preferred Action Men over Barbies

  • Atta girl! You go! :)

  • My English Professor sent me here.

    Idk either.

  • The child is fabulous! There's hope!!!!

  • She's going to be a superhero

  • Riley for President 2052

  • there are also girls that like superheroes and princesses, and boys that would like to play with princesses along with superheroes but they can't cause there's always a idiot ready to mock/scold them for their choices...

  • @Omega1874 you just made his point. It is 'cus of people like you we have those dumb sosical stigmas and social rules.

  • @Omega1874 hahaha, i feel sad for you bro :) So much hate.

  • @Omega1874 It's not homo. IT'S A PLAY!!!!!!! girls like playing football too, and boys like cooking!!! The best cookers are men, there are female football teams and they aren't homo!!!! You think this because you've been educated in a stereotypical society. PINK IS ONLY A COLOUR! I'm gay and I've always hated pink. My sister is hetero and she loves play football and her favourite color is blue!

  • @estudiante20 wow. Cool story, bro. Oh wait. No one cares.

  • lol @ ppl writing paragraphs about sexism.

All the comments should be OMG SHE'S SO CUTE !!!

  • Actually girls have it easier. Does anyone in western culture even bat an eyelash at a little girl who likes superheroes? No, and even if there was a scenario where a girl gets teased for liking superheroes or being simply a tomboy you'd have about 50 different feminist blogs coming to her defense. Compare that to a little boy that wants a Princess doll. High chance he would get bullied and teased. Gender roles are more inflexible for men/boys then women/girls.

  • @42underscored: the reason gender roles are more inflexible for men is due to how girls are seen as weaker. there is an seance that it is not ok to be a girl, thus tomboys are generally not found upon while boys who like girl things are.

  • Epic girl

  • the most intelligent human being ever.......

  • preach little girl!! love this!

  • when she shrugs her shoulders is so cute

  • TRUTH !!!

  • Clearly she doesn't know about bronies ^^

  • Does she know how to spell acoustic guitar?

  • Does she know how to spell Birkenstock?

  • Does she know how to spell Diesel?

  • Does she know how to spell Düsseldorf?

  • @thevikingmonkey What if I told you I had the same feelings as a child? These questions were brought by my own curiousity. So, you think children aren't smart enough to question the world around them? You think children don't notice how the world works?

  • @thevikingmonkey In conclusion your a penis, she's awesome and speaks a lot of truth.

  • @MeAndJacob1 *you're

    In conclusion, learn to grammar.

  • @thevikingmonkey Child Abuse? ... Tell your son that Pink is only for girls and your Daughter that blue is only for boys is abuse. Looks as thought this 5 year old has 5 times the knowledge and love than you will ever posses.

  • @thevikingmonkey Being born a particular gender shouldn't mean you have different responsibilities or accountability than anyone else. There are plenty of very successful people who played with non gender conforming toys as a kid. Also playing with barbies or playing with super heros isn't being gender neutral... people who are gender neutral don't relate to a specific gender. no one ever decided "I'm not a boy because I like dolls and the colour pink"

  • @thevikingmonkey yep as a woman in high school I stay up long hours working and taking classes to better understand the world just so I can spit out a kid and cook. do you honestly think gender roles are what teach children responsibility? a man who cooks or a woman owing a corporation is not going to tare the fabric of society. my seance of responsibility comes from the idea that i will someday be able to be independent not that i will sustain a family.

  • It's amazing how easily children see through the forest of social and cultural influences and indoctrination yet so many adults can't.

  • @Griminal Wow, you are so fantastically wrong.

  • I remember having a conversation with my fellow classmates about colors when I was in Pre-K.

All the boys said that pink was a girl color and that any other color was a boy color.

  • When I grow up all my future kids will be this excellent.

  • Recently being a nanny I have quickly grown to HATING toys & TV shows geared towards girls. Its is absolutely unfair & disgusting the gender condition that goes on with children. Boys get to play with toys that are interesting, adventurous,& help build their brains imagination & creativity, yet girls are stuck with boring dolls, tea sets, dress up,and fake makeup. Its plain to see that even in the 21st century women are still being held back ON PURPOSE, they just have a slicker way of doing it now.

  • So this world has some hope after all

  • Her father needs a medal.

  • @Defenesized both of them need medals. ^-^

  • Her parents are forgetting to inform her of option #3 : why define yourself with products in the first place?

  • @beggarz That's what this is about.

  • Woo that's one bright little girl there, you keep on questioning Riley!

  • Us boys actually do want the pink stuff, we just dont want to pay for it HAHAHAHA

  • Like this if you were sent here by Kellyjane! :P

  • Speaker for all the girl nerds out there!!! whoo

  • Can we make her our world dictator?

  • Bright little girl you've got there :D Never stop questioning, Riley!

  • notice how she never really directly looks at the camera and questions what shes saying like "right?" right? mom and dad is that what im supposed to say? yeah.... if you wanna buy boys toys go ahead, no ones stopping you.

  • Good girl after my own heart. This reminds me of the discussion I had with my mother about an erector set when I was just a little bit older than her.

  • @m0rganosity To this day, science and construction toys are marketed to boys. The discovery web site has some science stuff for girls, but they're all about making jewelry and cosmetics. :\

  • Below the pre-established standards ... Why can not we have a heroine princess? Only men can be strong? Women should be fragile, beautiful and neat all the time? Palms to Riley since the four years to question the standards imposed.

  • @BragaLis We've had Mulan and Pocahontas. What I'd like to see is female characters that are human and flawed. And I want to see them in equal numbers as male characters, not token afterthoughts with pink bows on their heads.

  • @NotADood,

Sure, but how many girls prefer Pocahontas instead of Barbie? Plus, I do not think we need characters full of errors, the kids are surrounded by bad examples. Characters such as Mulan and Pocahontas reach very few children in the U.S., evidence that the creation of this child is really different!

  • @BragaLis How heavily are Pocahontas and Mulan marketed? If I turn on Saturday morning cartoons, I doubt I'd hear a word about them, but I'd get a faceful of sparkly pink shit about Barbie and Bratz and fashion and makeup and boyz.

  • Very good, if most women do not think so many would become housewives while their husbands walk around in their imported cars catching "little girls", with heads less developed than that of Riley.

Kudos to the parents for sure!

  • @BragaLis Brilliant comment!

  • VERY smart little girl to "get it!"

  • Parenting done right.

  • Meet our future president.

  • OMG, I adore this child. I shall take her and raise her to become the next Queen of Earth.

  • and thars what i call a genius :P

  • Riley for president! I love your daughter, we're expecting our first in 3 weeks, a girl. I hope she is as smart and sassy :) I catch myself watching your videos along with other kid and new born videos to get over pregnancy blues. Too cute. Thank you.

  • Your brain rocks, Riley! May you never lose the courage of your convictions.

  • too brilliant. From the brilliant observations to the incouraging dad to the hesitant 'boys like.. boys don't like the pink stuff' x) Awsome kid.

  • Watch when she is the flyer invented of the millennium

  • This girl is a future president.

  • I like how her dad is encouraging her... Awesome dad and an awesome kid..

    This makes me smile :)

  • teach me how to parent

  • laci green 2.0

  • Amazing daughter you raised. Congratulations!!!!

  • its easier to control a girl into what she gotta want.. instead of lettinhg her figure it all..

because its safer for parents to have a kid who follows ur rules and accept them..

but maybe she is different, and want a superhero, instead of a barbie

because in fact, she is already a barbie heheh

    so cute!

  • she is angry, because she feels theres a tricky system, although she doesnt know about the system

she is angry because they take possibilities form kids to play with wat they want

  • Damn, she is really smart for her age. Congrats to mom and dad.

  • @GoldenArc she's not "smart" she's simply more intelligent than all the retarded people we like to call "americans"

  • @owenn30 wow you must feel so awesome being so postmodern and so anticulture

  • @blooberrykisses well it's true, people from the united states are all dumb and fat -.- only a good handful are like this little girl; that doesn't make her "smart," that just means she should run while she still can and move to a different continent far away from this country

  • @owenn30 lmao ur generalizing therefore your argument is invalid grow to be more than 14 years old and youll see how much of an idiot you are

  • @blooberrykisses le'lol maybe if you were more than 14, you'd know what a troll is by now

  • This girl knows her shit.

  • Honestly, anyone who is having a hard time agreeing with this are idiots. Hell when I was a little girl, it use to piss me off being made to wear dresses and being called cute by people. I hated it. Hell, sure I watch a few princess shows here and there, but I was also in love with shows like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Spiderman comics.xD

  • We have finally found footage of Marge Simpson's childhood. Or is that just me?
