When you think about it, humans of today are not much different than Klingons. We are violent, brutal and savage, with war our main industry. The Klingons however value honor, and humans do not.

Fair call but most races in Star Trek you can identify with a race of people from Earths history.

Klingons are a cross between the ancient Spartans and Guals/Britions

Cardassians are like the Nazi's.

Romulans I guess are like the USSR or pre capitalist China

Ferengi are a good reflection of the 'Greed is Good' culture of city bankers and investors.

At the end of the day Star Trek is just a reflection of our own past and culture (as humans)

IMO the Federation is just Gene Roddenberry's ideal of humans living in some sort of socialist utopia, where greed and wealth have been made redundant by advances in technology. It's a romantic idea and who knows humans might get to that point in the future.
