@whatyes This road was once a railroad from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek, but there were other ways there, including other train lines, stage coach roads and a main road from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek.
@JeepsterGal I just remember we would drive there from Woodland Park (not Colo. Spgs) and we took a road that went through a one-way tunnel. Then they built a road around it so people didn't have to back out of the tunnel when they met up someone going the opposite way.
@whatyes I think you may be remembering what is now Hwy 67, the main road to Cripple Creek. There was a tunnel, very short, that was circumvented for that very reason.
Where is this? I've been on Gold Camp / Old Stage numerous times and have never seen this tunnel. Does the road now bypass it? Is it closed off now or can you still go through it if you want?
Interesting timbering. This tunnel probably goes through the crumbly version of Pikes Peak Granite; most of the other tunnels are through the more consolidated type, thus do not need additional support. Nice video! Query "Cheyenne Mountain" for a video I took this afternoon.
Hey, thanks for this. I hauled logs up this road years ago. We could see the tunnel from where we were logging, but didn't go through it. I always wanted to, but it would have been a tight fit. I always thought trains, even narrow guage trains, were much bigger than that.
Nicely done video. I'm a girl who likes railroads - history and the great outdoors really. Crazy hey!
Its my dads fault - took me everywhere as kid.
Born in Australia married an American. Love the American great outdoors and sssooo much history. Always reading big phat books but don't have the resources to go see these places - so I watch great videos on Youtube - thanks so much,
HI JEEPSTERGAL, BLANCOBILL here. neat video. we didnt do the gold cam trip last summer but would like to next summer, and take pics. Chris and I would like to meet you then and take gold camp to the springs. we stay at hospitality rv
I'd love to take Gold Camp with you, I can give you the grand history tour and show you all the cool places along the route. Just email me and let me know when you're coming, I'd love to meet you!
I love your videos but they make me homesick. My family use to own some property that was adjacent to Cathedral Park. Thanks for bringing back the memories!
Wasn't this the only way in and out of Cripple Creek at one time?
