Dionne always Sounds great! I love "Walk on by" its a Classic who wants to forget that. Unfortunatly their is a Huge part of the Black Music Culture, that feels if your not Hooping & Squalling In front of Choirs. Your not Sangin! that not true we have many traditions to Honor. We dont all expsress Ourselves the same way. All the Key changes she performs in song. You have be able to Sang!! to sing "Promises Promises" by Bacharach & David! Come on people lets respect Diversity.

You know, DIonne has had that church in her wherever she sang. She'd pull it out when needed and my God she just tears it down. Looks like Whitney is backing her up with the woman in the hat. Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick, Dee Dee Warwick made imprints in the world of music but the other members of the family were just as talented. What a gifted bunch.
Dang. Dionne used to do this song in her stage show. It was just as spectacular, perhaps a tiny, tiny bit shorter, but she did it night after night. I saw her perform it, perhaps a half a dozen times, in Atlantic City. It was quite the treat, as it would gain multiple standing ovations throughout the song by the always flaccid Atlantic City audiences. Whenever I tried to explain this song to friends, I could never give the performance the justice it deserved. Now I can show them! Clay

Haha! You are so right BLACKADAM! Dionne strutted back to her seat like a peacock! She KNEW she had 'brought it' after that performance. She knows you can't go back to New Hope Baptist Church and sing like a pop singer. She had to do some serious singing to move those folks there because virtually EVERYONE is a singer there..and a good one too, and it takes a lot of spirit and feeling to move them. And Dionne did not disappoint!
Anne was also a choir director at New Hope, Cissy had a two different choirs which is common in most churches. When I saw Anne in the early 90's she was leading this choir. Dionne as a teenager lead the junior choir as well.
Dionne walked back to her seat, the same way she walks off stage when she knows she has laid it down!! Dionne sang the roof off of that church on that occasion.
Poor Eunice and Felicia were ready for the workout Dionne was going to give them. Affectionately calling them her "aggravation on the road.." (I didn't quite get this until --at I noticed at 8:31, Eunice misses her timing! D catches it -- and says "Ah haaa!", causing poor Eunice & whole church to laugh in good fun! D then makes them do it 1 more time-and then Eunice & Fel nail it. Dionne is quite the perfectionist, hence her comment "that they'll HOPEFULLY be singing their parts... "
Well...in all my life...I have NEVER heard Dionne 'throw down' like this before! OMG! Just goes to show when she's got to deliver in front of a house full of stone singers (and auntie Anne Drinkard Moss right there directing choir in back), Dionne kicked her vocal cords in high gear! Loved the look on Anne's face when Dionne held that unexpected note. She smiled and started applauding. This was friggin fantastic! Glory Hallelujah!

Dionne is really showing her vocal skills with this song. A lot of people don't realize that she can sing this way, because her cross over pop songs.
But this is trully a reminder Miss Warwick can sang !
