Now see this is great ... its when you are showing the human side of you and you and Pete work great together..its like being right there with you...i love this video, it makes me laugh
ND tried to outlaw smoking but too many ANTIsmoking orgs testifies against it. Any guesses why? Google "NORTH DAKOTA LEGISLATURE: Tobacco ban gets lit up in House"
The fed gov't passed a law in the 1960s requiring tar/nicotine info on cigarette packs, which is now _forbidden_ by law. Any guesses why? Hint: It was in pharmas interest. So much for antismokers who want truthful labels!
Some states now require "Fire Safe Cigarettes". You won't find _those_ ingredients on the labels!
Another odd thing you are the second British person I know of who is into USA civil war. The other lives here in NC and prefers to play the Union role. I would love to know the attraction to US Civil War to Brits.
Anyhow love the videos and the interesting way in which the Confederates are represented. They are after all the most memorable example of anti-feds in history.
I can't speak for other Brits, but I see the confederacy as the true defenders of the US constitution as it was originally intended, while the federalists were (and still are) corruptors of the founding fathers dream. Slavery is unacceptable, but the unionists used it as an excuse to conceal their true motive for war, suppressing states rights. Today "domestic terrorism" is their latest excuse, but suppressing rights is always their intent.
There's a monument in the Tarboro Town Commons to those who fought for state sovereignty. Today, people seem eager to throw it away. It's the most tragic thing imaginable.
Nonsmokers walked past gross, poorly ventilated smokers' pits in airports without ever thinking that an equally inane excuse could be used to treat them that way. Today, everything from "security" to "weather" justifies prison-like treatment. Airplane air quality is much worse than it was before smoking bans and people get trapped on planes for long periods on runways. Threatening laws to control smokers' behavior are trivial compared to today's laws to keep EVERYONE on pins and needles.
I'm in NC. Hairy came for a couple of weeks last year to visit in Tarboro--we still have lots of buildings that had been used by both sides in the War of the Northern Aggression. We're next to Princeville, which was the first settlement of freed slaves. Not that any of us want slavery but...if people had to pay for their freedom today, then they'd surely appreciate it more! BTW, we get a beutiful flower show every year, too. I've done a bunch of "Happy Tarboro" videos on YouTube.
NC passed a smoking ban based on the "no safe level" conclusion in the 2006 SGR that--but that is NOT in the report! It was in the press release for the report and it's nonsensical! The report is also a sham. From page 22: "The quantitative results of the meta-analyses, however, were not determinate in making causal inferences in this Surgeon General's report." It gets worse from there.
Fair warning: NC economy is about to go downhill very quickly.
I have already predicted there will be a giant sucking sound to the south as people in NC plan to vacation in SC due to the smoking ban.
The night scene will be popping and many of those who supported the smoking ban in NC will be too stupid to put it together. They won't know the reason is because of the lack of a smoking ban.
My neighbor who smokes says they just will start planning home parties with friends and stop going out. I expect more people will be doing the same.
Bingo! You're the smart one today! Many restaurants foolishly believe they are in competition with each other. No, they are in competition with eat-at-home. Once people go out of the habit of eating out, they don't frequent ANY restaurants.
FYI: I have friends with whom I go out to eat every week night. (Weekends we "fend for ourselves", LOL!) I've noticed that restaurants that go antismoking tend to lower quality in food and service, too. Sad but true.
At the beginning of the war southerners didn't wear wool uniforms in the summer. They wore what was called homespun also know as hemp material in the summer months. Many wore summer white uniforms. Consisted of a white jacket and grey trouser. Also the collar and the cuff of the jacket would indicate which branch. ie. red=Artillery, lt.blue=infantry and yellow=cavalry
Not that being accurate was the point :) considering you have them flying in a plane LOL.
Branch of service colours were dropped on later uniforms, so I opted for the plain grey as it's more versatile for re-enacting, but I've never been re-enacting :-( The jacket is jeancloth, so as to not get too hot, but it doesn't make much difference in a closed room with spotlamps on. But we aren't supposed to be confederates, we're supposed to be a WW2 bomber crew dressed as confederates because we don't like the EU that hadn't even been invented at the time ;-)

It's not Peter, but me that is struggling with memory loss. A sign of old age. I'll have to smoke more to boost the brain cells ;-)
