It has always been the Igloo, but everyone referred to it as the "Mellon Arena." Like I said before, I will say it again.......NO ONE called it that on a regular basis, not even on TV.......why? Because at the time the Pens sucked and therefore, being the paper thin character the Pens "f-n" is, didn't call it that because it brought back good memories that seemed light years away at the time.

We won the Stanley cup, which was great. The only reason I can give you for it not selling out sooner is that Pittsburgh and W. Pa is not a hockey area, plain and simple. But there are real die hard fans here, it's just not like it is in Detroit, Minnesota or Canada. Why people never got very into it, I'll never know, I was only 10 then and hadn't been to my first hockey game until I was 8. I'm just thankful we have a team I can go see, I enjoy the sport very much.
Also, I have to point this out. You do realize that even when the Pens sucked, the Igloo wasn't empty right? Even the one year when they had the lowest attendance (yes it was only one) they still averaged 12k for home games. And there were still people who watched games from home. Sounds like there are some real Pens fans out there, but I imagine you are just here to "stir some shit up" and don't really care.

It has always been the Igloo, but everyone referred to it as the "Mellon Arena." Like I said before, I will say it again.......NO ONE called it that on a regular basis, not even on TV.......why? Because at the time the Pens sucked and therefore, being the paper thin character the Pens "f-n" is, didn't call it that because it brought back good memories that seemed light years away at the time.

We won the Stanley cup, which was great. The only reason I can give you for it not selling out sooner is that Pittsburgh and W. Pa is not a hockey area, plain and simple. But there are real die hard fans here, it's just not like it is in Detroit, Minnesota or Canada. Why people never got very into it, I'll never know, I was only 10 then and hadn't been to my first hockey game until I was 8. I'm just thankful we have a team I can go see, I enjoy the sport very much.

Even the one year when they had the lowest attendance (yes it was only one) they still averaged 12k for home games. And there were still people who watched games from home. What's the point of even arguing with you? The Pens have sold out over 110 consecutive games, something that most American teams can't say, and on top of that they have a season ticket waiting list of 6,000. They had to stop selling season tickets last year in September.

The Pens fans didn't boo last year. I was surprised when I heard the cascade of boos on Friday night, especially from a great hockey town like Detroit. At least Mario got some respect.

And about the Pirates. It will NEVER happen, but what if they got fired up after da Penguins and Steelers won their respective titles? I think if they did, they would get more than 82 wins this season. Too bad that won't happen, though. :(

Jim, I gotta say the best part of this last episode was your jab about the "greatest". MARIO baby! Nothing against Ali but Mario = God. 2 Cups as a player and now 1 as an owner and I'm sure there will be more to come. It's time for the Pens to work on their dynasty.
I know people disagree with me but I still wish Pittsburgh would take on a basketball team. You know they would win too. City of Champions baby! Someday the Pirates will find glory again too.

Ya know, I would agree if the management of the Pirates cared enough to put a quality team on the field.
That being said, I still have tickets to 6 Pirates Games this summer. And when I have to drive from Detroit to make those games, I think I have plenty of loyalty.

in fact, i know many people who have left the Burgh and still follow and root for them. Stop by to see a game whenever they are in town. (are you one of them?)
are they happy they are not a Championship team? .of course not.
but switch to a different sides..never.

Since my boys did the Rd. 1 El Choke-o, I'd hopped on the Pens bandwagon for the rest of the postseason... mostly because the Stillers are my AFC team. Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Penguins (including ex-Devils Sykora and Guerin!) and their fans. "Yinz" deserve it.
