I can't thank you enough. I've been a fan of theirs for over 20 years but just now took the time to track down all their unreleased/B-sides. Of the eight songs I got, this is by far my favorite - gave me chills. I created a playlist - it's on my channel if you're interested.
Thanks for posting this. New song I had not heard. One of their best IMHO. So hard to fit all their best onto three albums. Hopefully with their kid(s) getting older they will get back into the studio sometime soon. Their absence is a huge loss to music. One of the true class bands out of the UK in the last 25 years. They couldn't write a bad song if they tried. Every tune is a gem. Harriet is what God sounds like when he answers our prayers.
Just found out today that my best friend that I've had since I was 6 years old, has passed away. Listening to music and it led me here. What a beautiful voice. Why don't we have music like bands were making 20 years ago anymore?
This is a truly wonderful Sundays B-Side, one of many, amazed this was not on Static & Silence, was too strong a song to be left off...a shame, it's definitely worth hunting down all 4 Static & Silence B Sides they are all wonderful.
I wish I could hear some new music from them, but thanks for this. The manic depression this song describes is how everyones life is like, just speeded up is all. It's life. Thanks!
Yes, but I've made promises to Evanz and I'll keep them. I'm not the kind of people who lie, cheat and who is dishonnest as you think. I'll never let him down. I'll always be his jei jei and I'll always love both of you, want it or not, believe it or not. I won't give up.
Been a big Sundays fan since 2004. Yes I suffer/ed from extreme anxiety and depression and only just found this B-side.
Sundays are a more upbeat version of The Cranberries, a band I liked back in 1992/3. I recommend their first two albums if you like The Sundays and need to get into something similar.
Have you got "Through The Dark" by chance? I've been trying to hunt the "Cry" single with it on it down forever, but these things appear to be so rare, at least in the States T_T
Thank you so much for this. Does anybody know where to find "noise" by The Sundays? I let it slip through my fingers and have regretted it ever since.
Can someone please fill me in on this awesome band? I just cannot believe that Harriet and David will never write music and perform live again. I know that Harriet wants to raise her children, but does that mean that they will NEVER return to writing music again? And God forbid that they get a divorce, because they would spell a certain doom for one of the best bands of all-time!!! Please, does anyone have any interview clips or information I can go on? I am a HUGE fan!
Well, if you want the basic bio of the band, its available all over the web. But, if your asking if anyone is hip to their return, then join the club, my friend. All of us SUNDAYS fans are wondering the same thing. If I knew anything about a reunion then I'd already be in line buying tickets. All we can do is hope. Man, I would give anything to hear Harriet sing in person. Sigh...oh well. Maybe someday.
Did they ever make a bad song? No matter how old and hard I think I'm getting, I hear her voice and it crushes me. Never fails. So beautiful it hurts...
'Life and Soul' was bad, although 'Blind' is by far my favorite Sundays album. I wasn't too crazy about 'Your Eyes' on 'S&S' either. :) But you're right about Harriet. She's still the only singer who literally gives me goosebumps while listening to her voice...and this is after more than a decade of listening to The Sundays on a daily basis. A grown man getting goosebumps is freaky. :)
Ah, yes...the true sign of truly an awesome band when you think even their worst songs are a piece of art! You're right, my genius friend! You put it perfectly!
Sorry to say...The Sundays don't record anymore. Harriet and Dave, it is said, are quite content living their lives in Manchester England raising a family...no dvd's...and you'll have to ebay, to find their 3 cd's..as for the obscure songs like this one...good luck finding it on CD..it's on the Cry CD-2 which is really hard to find
Enjoy this and a few other glorious rarities on their MySpace page. Included there is Nothing Sweet, one of the most beautiful and haunting songs ever recorded by anyone, anywhere.
Someone needs to make a forum dedicated to The Sundays. I have a forum, but it has nothing to do with them; I could make a spot for them though....what do you all think?
There used to be a good forum called "sirensofsong", but no one has posted there in years and putting something up on that board is like watching grass grow...there is no traffic!
Wow! Great song. Thanks for posting this track.. I started listening to their music after first seeing "here's where the story ends" in the early 90s on the tele. I didn't know this song existed (what is this a B-side?). I do wish they'd make more music...I've been checking on and off for a new album release over the many years & still hoping....
Does anyone have any clue what David and Harriet have been up to lately? Are they ever going to make music again or do a "reunion" tour? God, I loved them so much. They remind me of my heavenly college days walking across campus during the middle of fall. I almost cry when I hear this song! I love the line, "looking back down!!!" So beautiful!
no doubt...I liken her voice as being like another instrument in the band; it just fits so well with David's guitar and the jangliness of it all! I LOVE this song!
Wow, LouGurl, this was awesome! This is my all-time fav Sundays track and it makes my heart melt every time I listen to it! Thanks for posting the lyrics, because, I always sing it wrong in my car! duh! However, I think Harriet sings, "I don't get OFF on being down"..not positive though. Thanks a bunch!
I thought that's what she was saying too...and I actually like the line better...it was after some debate with someone that convinced me she was saying "out"...but I think it's debatable because it's hard to understand her. I didn't want to say "off" and be wrong. What convinced me was the thought of talk therapy vs medication, which seems to be what she's argueing about....talking doesn't help getting out of it...she needs the pills. What do you think?
She's quoting someone telling her "so untie yourself because that's all you've got to do" as if to say "snap out of it". And she responds by "and I can grow a pair of wings..." as if to say she can snap out of it as well as she could grow a pair of wings. Just my take on it.
LouGurl, thanks for explaining the song...it is just so damn beautiful. Not to be morbid or anything, but I think I am going to write in my will that this song should be played at my funeral.
Well, after listening to the song a few thousand times over the past weekend, I've come to a couple conclusions. One is that this is near the top of all-time great Sunday songs (You're Not The Only One I Know being my favorite). The other is that she is absolutely saying "I don't get off on feeling down."
No doubt, You're Not the Only One" is one of their best! I don't know about you, but I have a hard time listening to this beautiful band when the weather is crappy (like it is in Chicago right now.) This is definitely sunny-day-leaves-falling-off-the-trees-music, in my opinion....
I couldn't agree more with all these comments. Being a fan of The SUNDAYS in frustrating because of their relatively small catalog of songs. Nothing Sweet is unquestionably one of the most beautiful and haunting songs ever recorded by anyone anywhere. God, I miss them so much.
Yeah, this group was SPECIAL and supremely underated. I really wish they would come out for a mini tour of Europe and N.America. They need to spread their beautiful tunes with the rest of the world again.
Nothing Sweet and Gone are two great Sundays tracks that should have deserved a place on the third album- they are wonderful songs with beautiful lyrics. Nothing Sweet in particular is a very haunting song.
I hope they put this on a greatest hits cd. I can't get it any other way. Yes, I have all three cd's to, but this is on the "Cry" cd single, off "Static & Silence". I love this band and I always will! I would hope they do this and a couple other covers. You know how great they did "Wild Horses", well you know if they're busy raising families, well I can understand if they don't come up with any new material. Yep, they're a great band and I really miss them!
I read all these comments - the cool and stupid ones - but what I'd really like to know is, what ever happened to this group? I have 3 of their CDs and have played them for years but I never read anything about them or heard why they stopped recording. It's such a shame that no more great music came from this great group.
I recently got in touch with Paul Brindley, bassist for The Sundays, and he says that the band is definitely NOT over yet. Accdg to him, it seems Dave and Harriet are intent on coming out with something new-- they're just mulling over what that something is. If the last hiatus was something like 4 or 5 years between albums, then this new album should really be something.
Please pass on to them the their fans (who are not so net savvy) are so excited. Pure vocals from Harriet's voice are a welcome distraction from the days' shite. Not that I put any pressure on her at all, but I love her voice. I am really happy to hear of a possibility of a reunion, but since hearing of this for the past 8 years, it's hard to believe. Since having a kid of my own, I fully support their decision to delay music making.
BeeRubble-you seem to naively believe that there is only ONE source for this song on the entire internet. I have no idea about what you keep leaving comments on but I'm tired of your bullshit. You're not all THAT perceptive.
Unspeakably beautiful. Any posting at all of or about The SUNDAYS is wonderful. Does anyone have Through The Dark, video or otherwise, to post. You will make a god of yourself in eyes of all The SUNDAYS fans.
I too am looking for the cd/video or lyrics for 'Through the Dark'. I have the song on my myspace account but would really love the vid and lyrics. If you find them could you let me know.
LouGurl,Just a suggestn. You could insert relevant photos between the lyrics, and the guitar solo.....definitely will attract people's attn 200% n convey yr meaning in posting this video.. People are so used to colorful vids, cant blame them.
This song made me cry..... I LOVE IT! :))

Through the Dark
Oh innocent smiles, how they put you shame
Same televised lines, I've seen the film before
Sicilian men, they're going to save their name
Leaving their brides in black shawls again
See how it's shining thru the dark as the teardrops fall
And it illuminates the room and we can't stop staring for a moment
Some silver screen starlet but it's my story she's living in
In a smoke filled room pressed up against the door
LouGurl 4 years ago
And see how it's shining thru the dark as the kettle boils
And it illuminates the room, entertain me
Eyes on this prize
Hello......I'm drowning in your tide
Welcome.....so close to my pale skin, I'm there
But one touch and it's gone
Same black and white blonde, you know the face but never the name
Hillbilly young boys, without a tooth between them
LouGurl 4 years ago
And see how it's shining thru the dark
Spinning a dream for the wide awake
And it illuminates the room, entertain me
Fixing your eyes on the prize
Hello....I'm drowning in your tide
Welcome...so close to my pale skin, I'm there
Sister stay now, don't run now
This is my magic world, and it's pulling me under
So stay........

If I could make movies from clips, I'd do it. It's a great "visual" song.
