A great feat of engineering and CAN-DO. What's amazing is how simple they really kept everything to reach the goal. An I-POD today can carry 500 % more data and information than the two on-board computers on this ship. Teamwork and training made this happen.

Thanks for posting this continuous live coverage from the CBS News archives. I remember myself and dozens of other kids in summer band practice watching this that Wednesday morning. Our director (Mr. Moe) hooked up a TV set and we watched as Jack King counted down. Our drummer started a drum roll in the final seconds of countdown.
