Yeah dialects are valuable stuff and should be preserved.
But there's no "Zhejiang" dialect. Hangzhouhua is actually very special among Zhejiang dialects because of historical reasons. I guess you are talking about Wu dialect（吴语or江浙话）. Northern Wu dialects are very similar to each other. Ppl in this region can communicate freely from Changzhou to Ningbo (to a much lesser extent among younger generations coz of forced promotion of Mandarin.
Although mandarine is a national lanaguage, it doesn't mean we don't get to speak dialect. As someone from Wuxi, in school or other official occasions, we speak Mandarine but at home or wit your family/friends, of course Wuxi dialect. Although I am not a fan of communist, it is not to blame it for this reason. And if you know a little bit of history, it is in the late Qing dynasty that Beijing/Peking dialect was picked as a national standard (Guan1 Hua4).
Definately! I totally agree about Chinese culture being bland without the lively dialects! Sadly, here in Malaysia & Singapore, Chinese dialects are vanishing because many young Chinese no longer speak them. :(
The music video you posted was really beautiful, kidshaoss. This is the first time I get to hear someone singing in a Chinese native dialect other than Mandarin.
