@2chrono If you played the DS version it does play at the arena, but in the original release this song was never used, but left in the ROM. From what I gather, there was originally supposed to be a Colosseum in the game (i think in 600 AD) where this was supposed to be the battle music for.
I am really glad they used this in the DS Version. Why they didn't use it in the first place I will never know. But it sure makes it feel revamped to hear this in the game.
If you know music well, you can easily notice why this music was not used as the regular battle theme. If you really pay attention to all of the Chrono Trigger tracks during game play, this "battle" theme has no connection with the rest of the tracks in the game. Is hard to explain, but it's just the way it is. (but the theme is good, don't get me wrong)

I like how it sounds more, but I can see why it was left out as a battle theme. It doesn't seem to "fit" the kind of tune you'd hear in the midst of a fight. The bulk of it just sounds too pop-rock'ish. But I would have loved to hear this elsewhere in the game, perhaps as a major or minor character's theme, or perhaps during a fight with a major or minor villain like Dalton.

You kinda suck at this, with these guys you just attack the Gnawers and they eat the Tadpoles to restore life, then attack the Gnawers again, they take about 2 hits each because they have really low defence. That's what's one of the great things about Chrono Trigger, every battle needs a different strategy.

@KuroiKuroudo Back in those days developers had to put more effort into the content. You couldn't just sit back on the strength of the presentation, you had to actually make your games unique & quirky to stand out. Nowadays it's all flashy graphics & weak soundtracks masked by an orchestral backing. Games just aren't of the same quality anymore. Too many idiots buy into: great graphics = great game

@R0cknroll4ever Some people have absurdly low standards when it comes to one's age, you are pretty much "getting old" at 22 or something in that region, and "life is over" after 30 etc etc etc.
Those opinions are kind of disgusting, it makes you feel like their standards tell them to have sexual relationships with children or something.

The melody is just a tad repetitive, it would be awesome with some more variety.
