  • the blonde baritone's english inflection is incorrigible!

  • My school sang this last year, sounded beautiful, but i wasnt in it

  • The 'soprano' sings higher than i can, and imma girl in my schools middle school chorus

  • 2:03 that "Down" gives me the chills everytime!

  • Y'all be as stumped

  • This song is meant to be sung by a whole congregation; that's when it sounds the best.

  • yall suck

  • awesome XD

  • These guys are amazing, and the guy on the very right looks like Mr. Bean.

  • i am in the fith grade i love this song

  • This is not something these guys need to sing; this is a southern hymn, and its just lost when sung by such polished voices.

  • they sound like they've never said a genuine prayer in their entire life. they are like the midi keyboard version of real people

  • im doing a solo in our version of this!

  • I totally love it! God bless us everyone! ♥♥♥

  • @valsfrostsaber Why, THANK YOU, love!

May our good/gracious LORD bless you, too!!!

  • King's Singers

  • Hmm.. I love the King's Singers. I am not sure if this is really their genre.

  • God this is so fucking awesome...

  • this song reminds me of "o brother where art thou."

  • @amartnotkmart

this song is featured in that movie.

  • at :15 does the bass guy roll the letter "L" in "let's"? how the HELL do you roll the letter L???

  • the bass looks like rowan atkinson

  • I just remember this song way back when I was in 1st grade. A girl in my class died in a car crash, and we all got a CD with this song (and a few others) in honor of her. They did a great job of singing this! God Bless.

  • I love Christopher, Paul and Phillip! Their voices are BEAUTIFUL! ♥

  • such a soulful song ... even better because mr bean's in it!

  • Is it just me or did the first singer either start flat and get on pitch or start on and go sharp? Either way I think he goes up slightly in the first verse.

  • @wiz9329 i kinda know what you mean idk, hes a professianal singer but it happens. Im doing this song in my hs chambre choir its amazing

  • look its mr bean

  • Oh they killed it :(

  • I think that poor fella needs to loosen his shorts a bit! :)

  • Mr. Bean...

  • I'm singing this song in my schools chamber choir, but its not all men =P. Maybe ill ill post it

  • Three christians and three jews.

  • beautiful!

  • Being from the South, I've heard this song more than a few times. This is among the best performances I've heard of this song. You simply can't go wrong with the King's Singers and a Philip Lawson arrangement.

  • restart button...........

  • I'm an anti-theist but I love the Kings Singers. Nothing they do can ever disappoint me.

  • The Lord gives us all unique appearances and voices, and a God-given talent is to be treasured no matter what the package!

  • 28 people went up to the guy on the far right to ask for Mr Beans autograph. by the way the person with the green mini cooper with the padlock on the door left their lights on :)

  • the beginning is rough, but it gets good. lol

  • normally i listen to metal...but this is awesome :D

  • @Blacktop7878 same here man

  • @Blacktop7878 Normally I give a damn the user's comments... but you and your post are so futile.

  • @Aberwitz88 60 people dont think so..and what do you know about my posts? and beause i think that my comment was too difficult to understand for you, i'll give you a little tip: my comment was just my view about this kind of music, just like the guy with the second top comment has written ok? that is what comments are made for -.-

  • @Blacktop7878 Fallacy of appeal to the majority... :S

  • @Aberwitz88 that would be a good song name^^

  • Comment removed

  • Love the "soprano". He is just amazing!

  • @tagakumpas Agreed he is a huge part of what makes the King's Singers so unique for me. Also just a technicality, he's a first tenor not a soprano :) that said however, he could sing the pants off any soprano I know.

  • @tagakumpas Just for future reference he is a counter tenor.

  • @MRSCrhistoferIngle Oh I'm aware of that, I just wanted to make the distinction between the voices for those who are not really familiar with the "technicalities" since the guy who sings the "alto" part is also "technically" a counter tenor unless I'm mistaken.

  • Comment removed

  • @MRSCrhistoferIngle also notice the quotation mark when I typed the word soprano.

  • @tagakumpas & @sanpaco13

I'm not pretty sure if you both are refering to David Hurley (the smallest), but if you're, he's the first countertenor.

    King's Singers line-up is: 1st Countertenor - 2nd Countertenor- Tenor- 1st Baritone- 2nd Baritone- Bass.

    Greets

  • @tagakumpas hes a counter tenor (around alto/mezzo soprano) its almost impossible for a guy to hit a true soprano range after puberty

  • @tagakumpas contratenor ;)

  • @tagakumpas omg me too .! my teacher played this fer the choir. cuz we're doing this song fer choir nd the Entireeee class started dyingg .! d:

  • A little fast on tempo

  • @sniperassasin666 Haters gonna hate

  • This is the best rendition of this song that I have ever heard!!! Absolutely fabulous!!! I'm in love right now!!!!

  • Who is Mr. Bean? o.o

  • @cvgraham717

the guy on the right side ;))

  • @funkysugarbabe ohhh! i see all these Mr. Bean references, and they dont make sence. now i get it :p

  • Mr. Bean is on the end lmao

  • Very good! But... lacks EMOTION!

  • best version of this song yet

  • these guys need to learn to swing or at least put some more emotion in their singing. admittedly, they are technically amazing

  • @3arik Absolutely - they're no match to the previous generation of the King's Singers for the same reason

  • MR. BEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I must admit that the counter-tenor farthest stage left has the most gorgeous eyes.. :3

  • 很好聽Good

  • Great, but........ are there no dentists where they're from? GOSH!!!!

  • At first I was like eeehhh and then I was like OOooohhhHH

  • Mr.Bean sucks balls compaired to BLACKADDER!!!!!!

  • Finaly we've found a use for the American accent :-)

This song doesn't suit the English accent I'm afraid. That said, it doesn't sound too bad after a few plays.

  • @CDugan7 your right it's suppose to be to the river. I live in the south i know this by heart lol they don't know it haha

  • wow the 3 Eunuchs...

  • @gr8lonewolf OMG, some ppl never heard counter-tenors. Sad. they arn't eunuchs, every guy CAN sing counter-tenor. It is a way to sing, nothing more.

  • ...Mr. Bean?...

  • I love this song and I love the Kings Singers, but I hate the way their accent plays on this song. I think they forgot that this is an AMERICAN folk song. As a singer I only take on songs that I know I have the capacity to sing. The same is true of choirs and ensembles. When a choir I'm in has issues with a particular style, the director throws those songs out. The King's Singers have a great sound harmonically here but they aren't suited for old American gospel.

  • @TheJuliusSezer you are correct, when you hear alison krauss sing this song nobody else can match her

  • yay yuor rihgt

  • Very talented gentlemen, but they would have been better sticking with their natural accents. To try and force an American /semi-southern accent on a british gentlman is almost a crime. In addition , as a southern American , it sounds terribly "canned" and artificial. BUT , I have to give them extreme respect for the harmony and effort.

  • @Tarponhuntr Too bad nobody cares. Music cannot be faked. There's no such thing as fake music. When you whistle a tune, you're making music. These guys are very good and flawless musicians. No point comparing accents and other bullshit. Just enjoy the music, bro!

  • 0.47 funny little fucker - Barney Rumble??

  • 0.44 funny little fucker

  • Their voices blend beautifully. Mr Bean is so talented.

  • the left guy is fucking bad high singing xD :D

hes great wanted to get this high notes too .. :/

    great work :)

  • Can't you comment about the beautiful music instead of making the same joke over and over? This song is magnificent.

  • Hey, is that Mr Bean??

  • If the song is "Down to the River to Pray" why do they keep saying down IN the river? Does anyone know?

  • I love this arrangement/video. The only thing I wish they would do is add the American "R" in wear. We Americans take the R away if doing choral music but this is folk. But anyway. This is one of my favorite videos on youtube. Thanks for uploading it :)

  • oh look, Mr Bean!

  • what's mr. bean?

  • Does anyone know what mic are they using?

  • MR. BEAN!!!! hahaahh just said that to get on u anal bitchez nerves :)

  • That's an ok southern drawl. But considering they are English, Great job!

  • @Wcredneck54 Yeah, lol. You can hear hints of posh when they're trying to sound "dirty", lol.

  • flawless victory

  • Lovin' that high tenor!

  • hmm, take your time boys. we need time to savour the mood. :)

  • MR Bean Unseen LMAO

  • sorry people i broke the replay button.

  • Wow, these guys sound crummy compared to the good old dudes. Guess they're lucky England doesn't have a tradition of seppuku.

  • @thisperfectworld I disagree. I like Paul Phoenix much better as a tenor than his predecessor, and I like this particular group of King's Singers the best of their lineups.

  • 2:02 epic...

  • MR BEAN

  • @dilligafkunt haha right !?!?!?

  • @JuggernautWest hahahahah insane ay!!!!!!!

  • I love the short guy! I don't know any guy except for my choir director who can sing alto. Props to you mate!

  • the best effect in my opinion is that the tenor sounds kinda low in the part from 0:53 to 1:20 cause of the countertenors^^

    and

@QBRebel16 everyone can sing that high (ok nearly) "the short guy" just trained his headvoice more then normal people do^^

  • this stunning rendition motivates me to pray. THIS is music

  • the little guy is really cute :D

  • This is a great song!

  • Aloah " WOW " Ahui hou

  • respect! song is cool, but with this singers! its very very cool!

  • bassman looks like Rowan Atkinson

  • sounds so niceeeeeee MAN

  • The High Tenor looks like Beans from Even Stevens

  • Good intonation, but horrible tone quality. I could do better.

  • @Charizard707 do it, and if you cant, then quit making fun of people with immense talent

  • Nice sound! I'm looking forward to seeing them live in concert next week.

  • The guy on the far right looks like rowan atkinson!

  • Classieux !

  • they're really good but the song was a bit too fast for my liking

  • Fantastic sound! I just discovered these guys and I'm devouring everything I can find.

The video is stretched wrong, if you read the comments you should add the tag yt:stretch=16:9 to get it to look right :)

  • These guys are obviously very talented but they're singing way too fast for this song and it's weird to hear a bunch of white British men singing a song written by American slaves. Their accents bleed through a little bit every now and then and it throws me off.

  • I love this group! My vocal coach is takin me to see them in concert yay me lol

  • i feel like they're missing the point of the song, the depth and feeling needed to sing this just can't be done at this speed. the beautiful harmonies are lost because of it. A fabulous group, but they are a little too far out of their element with this one.

  • @fiddlemediddle I agree. They need to take it back about 20 clicks.

  • @fiddlemediddle I honestly feel like a soulful highschool group can perform this better then the King Singers. That's not to say they aren't in-fucking-credible...But this is one of the only misses I have ever heard from the Kings Signers. It just feels way to proper and refined when its a soulful black prayer piece.

  • So peacefull :)

  • I've been a fan of this group since almost forever. There are now different singers than what were there, bu they still are fantastic! The counter-tenor (high voice) is stupendous!!

  • I've been a fan of this group since almost forever. There are now different singers than what were there, bu they still are fantastic!

  • i love this

  • well that takes the harmony award..... very nice!

  • Beautiful! It is sort of odd to hear that sung in a British accent, though.

  • it's always the part from 1:26 that gives me the shivers at the latest - where they're all singing and a few notes get real deep :) *great*

  • I love how the cute little tiny guy on the far left has the highest voice. And he gets misty at the end! ^^

  • wow amazing!

    i love it

  • Holy shit, this is amazing.

  • dose anyone think that tenners voice is like creepy high

  • @axle900 it's because he's a countertenor. It's a higher register than regular tenor

  • @axle900 does anyone think that this person sucks at spelling?

  • The Mr. Bean jokes get annoying after they've been on EVERY FRICKIN VIDEO HE'S IN. Who cares?

  • @JTSHHS But...Mr. Bean...

  • @JTSHHS Did you ever wonder what a coincidence it was that Lou Gehrig died of Lou Gehrig's disease?

  • i love this

  • Did someone knew mister bean could sing?????

  • this was a cool arangement. shaky at the beginning haha, but what would you expect of brits singing american gospel? god these guys blend so well, what a performance!

  • they seem to have a German accent. The short guy has a very high voice (falsetto)

  • It's nice but there's something about southern gospel that brits just can't quite capture. oh well nice job

  • i suggested to my friend that we should replace the word "mothers" to hobos. :D

  • i love how to tallest guy and the shortest guy has the highest pitch voices ever... but they are amazing!!!

  • what truly awsome voices

  • call me gay but male gospel is the best and hottest in the world who is!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my god I could listen to this all day over and over and never get tired of it! :D

  • Beautiful

  • I absolutely adore the king's singers but this wasn't one of their best pieces. they kinda made the vowels too pure. comin from a southern vocal major they shoulda used a lil dialect.

  • British guys singing good ol' Southern Gospel. Like.

  • 0:52-1:05 by far the coolest part. awesome chord locking.

  • those two tenors are funny hehe hehe

  • HA HA HA !!!! THEY ARE SO FUNNY!!!

  • Christ, literally, can some get this right? It's "Down in the Valley..." This is the Cohen Bros version from a movie adapted because the traditional lyrics didn't match the scene. God knows, this is a fine example to think about regarding the recordings of a bunch apostles writing about Jesus Christ's life 100 years after the fact. The damn song has been recorded incorrectly on multiple continents and the Cohen Bros movie is less than a decade old.

  • @MrApples6 Does it matter? It's not about the words, but the message. I think "river" fits, as it was at the river that Christ was baptised, ad the river (Jordan) plays a large part in a lot of Christian songs. No need to get so upset over a single word change. It's just a song...a very beautiful song.

And this isn't the only song in the movie that had the words changed either. Come to think of it...I think all the songs were different from their original versions, lol.

  • aaa mazing. they definatly need to visit LA

  • He does look like mr.bean haha!

  • You idiots , clearly that is NOT Rowan Atkinson aka Mr.Bean

  • @PreciousRubine he is the image though. made me giggle :3

  • 1st tenor= my favorite.

  • @summerrenee616 Oh, ok. But there is only 1 tenor in this group.

  • @Hisname22 uhm... i said 1st tenor is my favorite. i didn't say anything about anyone else.

  • @FCGDAEB54321 dude it sounds amazing.

  • Hat dennen jemand zwischen die Beine getretten ?
