I did this but there's another little 3.5 mil jack on my monitor and i wouldnt know if i had to plug this also in or not. but the monitor says ( when the VGA kabel ) is plugged in.
the problem I'm having is that I want the clone version, I want my 37" lcd tv to act as my primary or clone everything on my laptop screen like you said, problem is it is only leting me use the TV as an extended monitor. Please help how do I switch it so it will work?
the wire that connects my laptop screen to the rest of the laptop is snapped, but the rest of the computer works fine, could i do this and use the external monitor as the main screen?
I will need to do this soon. I have a oldish presario laptop and the hingers on the right side of the screen have completely snapped off. So now i can see the wire exposed and the weight of that side of the screen is being held on the wire. I have tried to support it with some duck tape and all that, but i can see the wire splitting and know soon the screen will become blank... :(
I hope this will work when it does, i will need to get a old desktop monitor for it though.
omg! is that one of the old alienwares beside u?

Thanks James, I hope to try this.
All I wanted was a simple tutorial, but apparently that's too much for other users to do.

Your tv should be selected as number 2, use that as default.
