It's because you should never put a cockatiel in a round cage...they need corners to feel secure and the bars going horizontally I hope you have gotten him a new cage by now. Cute bird!.
My brother's cocktail, Jenny, was doing this so we put zip-ties on the cage doors so she couldn't get out, but eventually, she was able to get the zip-ties off! Now we have small suitcase locks on it and a key to let her out, however, she's starting to understand how to get the locks off. Recently, she has pulled the key into her cage(it's hanging on the outside). We caught her in the act of trying to get the key in the hole. I doubt she'll be able to figure out how to get it in, though. :p
@jb2121100 agreed. his tail feathers are grey. if it were a girl they would be yellow and striped. also the cheeks are too bright of orange to be female. females cheeks are more muted orange.
good thing the cockatiel csn get out. the cage is round which is VERY MENTALL DAMAGING FOR ANY BIRD and the cage is MUCH TOO SMALL. these facts make thid potrntially amazing video disturbing.
@WenAcst Vets are pretty ignorant about birds, they just know about dogs and cats, VETS ARE NOT ZOOLOGISTS! THEY ARE NOT ORNITHOLOGISTS!
that bird is for sure a MALE, check out every website about cockatiels, and u'll find the truth... it's pretty easy to recognize gender in classical grey cockatiels!;-)
i too have a cockatiel, and it has two budgie friends with it :) and the cage is not very big either... though much bigger that that is,but i ALWAYS keep the doors open so they can get out to fly in my room or come with me to watch some tv whenever they want,so they just sleep & eat in the cage :)
OMG people, the bird does not care what shape the cage is. As long as the bird gets out and can spread it's wings then who cares about the size of the cage? It should only be an issue if the bird is never allowed out!!!
actually, i just read a story about a cockatiel named ma-ma who was thought to be a girl by the vet, that turned out to be a boy determined after 5 years with DNA tests. that wasn't the point to this precious story however. but- does it matter? she's a love either way i'll bet. pretty girl.
@brucedabetta I've never heard that ._. I have a cockatiel in a very large cage, and it's rectangular, but I've never heard that they shouldn't be in a round cage? Is that really animal abuse?
@laurablack23 Birds sometimes get frightened and need a corner to hide in to feel safe. That is why many bird owners get upset when they see a bird in a round cage, especially one that is so small. they need one that is about 18x18x24 at the Smallest.
You should read a bit more about COCKATIEL birds all gray bird with yellow head and orange cheeks are female birds he may never yellow heads when they're gray. they remain gray with a bit of yellow spots.
cute video...just watch the guillotine door -it can hurt a bird's neck.I agree about round cages..dont have them..birds need large cages and tiels can have nightfrights so they need a big cage so that they dont break their feathers...check if your bird has dots under its wings or bars under the tail...then it is a female...normal greys are easy to sex visually after 2nd moult...yours looks like a male cos of the bright yellow face...vets dont know...unless theyre avian vets
Mine has had a bloody foot, and the vet nearby doesn't treat birds & there isn't another vet for many miles. What should I do?! o_O I don't have any form of transportation either.
@HboykicksA clip the wings the first month or two so she will get used to her new house than its your choice and just cause they have their wings clip doesnt mean its ok to take them outside the are small birds and can fly away when a breeze comes that will carry them for a while
even if this little boy (it's a male bird for 100%) only goes there to sleep, please be so kind and buy him a cage with corners. round cages are the worst place for birds!
@tinysxedancer thanx ill take that tip, too lol....i guess u have experience with cockatiels???? if so, please comment on this, LOL, or email mee some tips/tricks and whatever else u got..haha thanx :)
@adpitt25 You need enough space in the cage for him to spread his wings to their fullll length... plus more... i recommend a cage no smaller than at LEAST 2feet by 1.5 feet. =)
My cockatiel is a boy and he has lifted the cage door but he was never smart enough to get OUT of the cage..lol :D But anyway, love the video...wish my cockatiels were so smart!
I have three things to say to this. Firstly , you spelled human BEING wrong. Secondly, isn't ten years old a bit young for a cockatiel AND a youtube account? And thirdly, my cockatiel has a lot of freedom too. : )
Actually this cockatiel is a HE not a she. In the normal gray mutation (which your 'tiel is), if they have the bright yellow face then it is a male. If it didn't have the bright yellow face and only had gray then it would be a female.
HaileyJane19 is right. That cockatiel is a male. Not only is the face bright yellow, the tail feathers are gray. Unless there's some freaky genetic mutations going on then that tiel is MALE!
Not big enough for her to spead her wings safely, or safe if she has night frights, as cockatiels are prone too them. Plus, cockatiels are ground feeders, so need ample floor space.
lol my bird justs lifts up the door but hasnt learned how to go throught yet...if we dont let him out he'll just start trying to open it and he gets desperate to get out...he walks back and forth...hehe until we let him out...x]
lol the songs halarious oh and ..........YEEES!!!!!!! My cockatiel is finally tame after 5 months of training!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It happend 2 days ago on Labor Day!!!!!!!!
After seeing this video now i have my eyes open wide cos im intending to get my bird close to me to where im living since i moved to other country and it will be through airlines companies and will be carried like a cargo contaniner, guess if mine makes that ? Im gonna loose my bird cos he is so wise too...like yours!!! LoL
My cockatiels learned to escape through the food dish holes so now I have to cover them at all times lol. Never thought they could get through somewhere so tiny

DNA sexing IS a blood test. They take the blood to see how the DNA is made up in it, that's the way they tell the sex of the bird.
