I am Orthodox and live in the USA. I have two daughters adopted from Russian orphanages. Irena is from Rostov on Don and Tania is from Arkangelsk region. I also have a son adopted from the state orphanage in Georgia.

I agree with you in a way, the British media seem to pick sides in situations like this and they have picked the Georgian side. Only because Georgia is tiny and Russia is far superior. Also all of the reports and claims are coming from the Georgian side, the Russians seem to keep fairly quiet and don't shout about what they think.

Yes, Tskhinvali is destroyed - because it got caught in the middle of a conflict. It seems most of the population had fled before the fighting intensified and the 2000 number does not look to be anywhere near accurate.
