I use my arm to measure the length of each yarn when we run out of color that we are still using we just get more of that color. Adding more is very easy the the ends won't show. My students don't use shuttles, but you can one if you want.
Taylli, Love the videos for primary and cardboard loom weaving. A few questions: If you make a sketch and plan a design, how do you figure how much weft yarn for particular sections? Do you cut and wrap the weft yarn around a "shuttle" to make it easier with longer pieces? Also, if you ran out of a weft color before you finished a section, how would you add the additional piece? Do you use a stick to lift the warp strings up off the cardboard or is it not needed?
Very pretty, but hard to follow for non-weavers. More explanations would have been great. If anyone's interested in doing this craft, I would suggest you search for a video that goes at a much slower pace for beginners, and shows step by step technique. That said, this video and your other one like it will catch people's eye and maybe get them started down the path. Thanks for posting.
This is great! I want to do this with my Kindergarteners and 1st graders and needed to see a demo. I got very excited when it got to the part that shows how to display the weaving . Thanks!
great vid, just how do u take it off ur loom without undoing it and stuff? i for got in art class. And don't u have to tie the strings together or something or no?
@sSugaStars if done correctly nothing will come undone. Just tie the warp strings at the ends when you cut it off. The strings will hold really well even before u tie the ends.
@taylli How about the weft strings when you change color? Other instructions say to leave a "tail" and weave it in, but you just cut them. Will they not come undone?
Great tips! I've never done weaving before and am looking to do it in my classroom, so this was monumentally helpful to see the process from start to finish. Thank you!
This is our school's vacation week, and I"m not feeling too hot..this it JUST the thing I was looking for to teach my kids! THANK YOU!! :)
