These people need to calm the f**k down! I think it's very rude to keep screaming his name and trying to shove albums in his face for him to sign like that.
Wow, I can't imagine having artifacts thrown in your face so rudely, just so you will sign them. I understand people's enthusiasm but they really do treat their favorite celebs as if they were something other than a fellow human being (and I might say, "less than as if they were something other than).
Like my meeting Julian Lennon, my encounter with Michael McCartney came after a show at the university I attended. After the show I left out a side entrance and who was standing there by himslef, Mike! Had a nice chat, got him to sign a few things and some great pictures. Nice guy!
At least Paul isnt like Ringo Star who if any of you people out there have Sirius Radio, Ringo made a comment about not signing anything. You hear that comment on Howard Stern's show here and there.
@MrAxeEdent the reason Ringo wont sign stuff sent by mail is that 1- theres too muc of it and he's busy- he has a job, a life, and a family like anyone, ya know; and 2- people get stuff signed by celebrities only to sell it for a fortune on ebay and other websites these days- they aren't real fnas- they're looking to make money. Paul has made similar comments on the selling of autographs before- but both Paul and Ringo will sign stuff in person and for charity auctions and such.
@MrAxeEdent Good for Ringo. It's totally understandable considering the madness he's lived with for the past 48 years. I grew up while the Beatles were together and if you didn't, you don't have a clue how insane people were about them. The man wants some peace and quiet. He gave his soul to his fans. Let him have it. Let him be cranky if he wants. For all he gave, he doesn't even owe anyone a smile.
@MetrazolElectricity I'm not even going to mention to you that on Friday, October 3, 2003, after leaving Soho Square London W1 to view MPL (1 Soho Square) where I saw Macca's p.a. John Hamilton dashing out on an apparent errand (brief-case and papers in hand as well as daughter Mary entering the MPL offices, who do I view stopped at a pedestrian crossing a few blocks away in very busy Oxford Street (at Newman St, to be exact) waiting to cross opposite of me and got two handshakes, so there.
@MetrazolElectricity Could even happen to you-it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time (remember, 1 Soho Square, London- definitely worth the trip). You can even see some the gold and platinum discs hanging on the back wall of his first floor (second floor for you Americans out there, btw) office from the bench in the middle of the Square if the blinds are open like they were on Oct 3, 2003. Have also shook hands with Louise Harrison, Pete Best, Billy Preston and Denis O' Dell
@crapple009 Going back to the bone of contention, I think it's perfectly normal for Paul to expect to be swarmed by boisterous fans. I don't give a shit if you're a mad stalker who keeps an eye on celebrities every move (the police should be informed!). I'm talking about regular folks like us who have a sudden chance of bumping into an icon and are perfectly justified in screaming and crowding.
@MetrazolElectricity Who's a stalker. I was just killing time until the Virgin Mega-Store on Oxford St. opened (I was about 30 min. early). Gee whiz! How was I to know/plan the good fortune that was ahead of me? Never in a million years. And no, I didn't ask for an autograph (didn't even occur to me, as I was completely dumbfounded). A quiet and simple heartfelt "thank-you for all the happiness and inspiration you've given my life" was all I could say. Where I'm from, that's normal. Thanks.
@crapple009 I see. Can I predict what my reaction would be if I bumped into Paul? No. Would I have a pen and paper on my person ? Probably not. But If I knew he'd be at a certain place, then I'd definitely go there armed with a beatles record, and a sharpie.
@MetrazolElectricity Here's the twist- not only did I happen to have a pen in pocket, I had my then-band's CD as well (I was in London that weekend to play a gig that Sat.night in Kentish Town) and as I was on "Cloud 9", it didn't even occur to me to either get his autograph or give him my CD. It was so quick. All I can remember is that when he walked over (!!) to me after I said "Mr. McCartney?", it felt like time and everything else froze for those 15 or so surreal seconds. He went unnoticed.
@MetrazolElectricity Totally. The sad thing is that I had none of my then-bandmates with me that day to share the experience with. They had opted to hang around the house we were staying at in Haringay instead of going to centre where there are a few shops I always hit when in London. Their loss! I didn't mention this before, but a mere 12 hours earlier I had seen The Pretenders at the Shepherd's Bush Empire and met Chrissie Hynde and the boys after the show. An unbelieveable weekend for sure!
@mrfester42 Thanks- wouldn't trade it for all the money in the world. Truly one of those serendipitious once in a lifetime at-the-right-place/ right-time experiences, to say the least.
@MetrazolElectricity I don't think that "screaming and crowding" are justified. Just think about it. How would you feel if people were CONSTANTLY in your face behaving that way? You can just as easily get an autograph (maybe more easily, actually) by remaining calm and respectful. I know because I have already done so with celebrities.
Man, how draining must it be to have people screaming your name and shoving things at you to sign everytime you just want to walk from a door to your car. Of course, I would be happy to trade places with Sir Paul anytime he tires of it.
Even though Paul has talent, money, and fame, seeing this really makes me feel sorry for him in some ways. Ever since he was 20, he couldn't just be out in public without being hounded by crazed fans. People shoving things in his face all the time expecting him to sign it and getting pissed off when he doesn't.
@nightcrawler511 But that's not a regular album. I don't recognise the front nor the back and he seems to make a comment about it. Maybe it's a bootleg...
I love how he flicks the Sgt. Pepper album cover out of his way. He never did sign that one. Good for him! I am embarrsed to be a human being watching this shit.
@dhcrazy333 It's funny you should say that. I remember listening to a live radio interview with Paul McCartney before a show he did in the States on June 16, 1993 (which was also broadcast live on TV and radio). He was talking about the old days and the screaming fans and compared the sound to seagulls.
Great video Derek! It was great meeting you and I hope to see you soon again. If not for you I would have never had the chance to see the very moment when Paul signs my LP. It was worth standing there since 7.15 a.m. Thanks again for your generosity. Take care. Diego.

They are just people. God made each of us for His purpose. You are no less important to Him than Paul McCartney is. I am sure Paul even knows this.
